Rex Grossmam: How long of a leash does he have? (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
Rex has had two horrible outings this year.

Arizona, a game they should have lost, and Miami a game they did lose. It seems like when the Bears defense is mauling people and forcing turnovers Rex rolls up and down the field like Peyton Manning. When the games are tight and the bears need points Rex seems to tighten up a bit.

One or two more outings like this is there a chance Griese will get the call?

He probably won't. Smith loves Grossman and doesn't want to further damage his quarterback by having him play while looking over his shoulder. For those who didn’t see Grossman’s early games he’s pretty much been forcing the ball all year. It’s the way he plays. His inexperienced so he’s going to miss buys sometimes and when you play like Bret Farve with out the immense talent like he does your going to have bad games. The Bears have known Grossman’s style and haven’t tried to discourage it yet so I don’t see them benching him yet.

I agree. I think most people don`t realize that Rex does not even have a full year of games under his belt. That being said we really do not know who the real Rex Grossman is.

I have been the leader of the Rex Grossman Bandwagon since day one. Now i am getting a little pissed. I thought he should have been benched yesterday with 10 minutes left in the 4th. I think they were down by 8 at the time. The guy is still young and inexperienced. Some of these throws are just stupid.

He was under preasure all game by miami. Thats when he struggles the most, as most Qbs do. The games he has sucked in, he has been getting hit and hit hard. next time he has a game like this, griese has to come into the game. It won't be for good, but you have to prove a point to the guy that this crap is ridiculous. The guy has all the tools and he is still learning, but this is a very good team and he needs to stop those moronic throws.

Rex is a tough kid. benching him when he is playing like he did against miami won't damage him, IMO. he needs to get it into his head that he can't throw the ball wherever he wants.

Grossman is in the best possible situation. A GREAT defense that can cover up for most of his mistakes, pretty good skill players on the offense and a very weak schedule. He's having some rough games and will have to learn that he can't force the ball against decent defenses. If he is their QB, which it appears he is, there's no sense taking him out when he's facing some adversity/playing terrible. He needs to take the whoopin and learn from it. If he continues on this path he may get pulled but he has a few more bad games under his belt before that happens IMO.

I agree and the point made prior was that "he was under pressure all game." There aren't many QB's who are good under those circumstances. The OL must do a better job because immobile Brian Griese is NOT the panacea.I thought somehow winning the Arizona game would have been the wakeup call for the Bears and they wouldn't play so poorly against the Dolphins, but... The Dolphins didn't even play too well as they gave the Bears many opportunities such as an INt in the Red zone and going off sides on 4th down to give them a 1st down. Just a bad football game all around. This from a Dolphin fan.The Bears are still the NFC team to beat until the game next week. Nobody is too good in the NFC.

He better get used to being under pressure because as teams watch film, now two games (AZ/MIA), defenses will mimic what worked against the Bears. Come playoff time the Bears won't be able to beat up on the dregs and they will probably have to face a team with a decent defense. The next game against the Giants will be interesting because as it stands now they appear to be a team that the Bears may end up facing in the playoffs. If you look at the Bears schedule to date GB (20), Det (26), Minn (6), Sea (23), Buff (17), AZ (25), SF (29) and Mia (4) they haven't faced many decent defenses (avg rank is 19th). They could have/should have lost to Minn and did lose to Miami the only good defenses they've faced all year. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Bears because they can only play the schedule they are given and are beating the teams they should beat but it will be interesting to see how they fare against the Giants/NE. Wit their ridiculously easy schedule they are probably the only other playoff teams they will face this year with good defenses and the types of teams they will need to beat in the playoffs.

They are going to be playing a Giant team that is ravaged with injuries though. It looks like Both starting receivers may be out as Toomer is done and Plax's back caused him to miss Wed. practice again. Both starting DE's are out and those two guys are the part of the 3 best players on their defense (Pierce being the 3rd). Even one of their backup DE's in Tuck is out. The Giants will have to hope the Bears put up a poor performance again.

I guess some fans have reached a point where playing bad in two games and not going undefeated just isn't good enough. Funny thing is that Chicago Bears fans would have killed for a QB that could just complete a pass for..... ohhh about the last 20 years. Now, 2 bad games and a 16-0 perfect season down the tubes and it's time to pull the plug.

If Peyton Manning was benched every time he threw 3-4 picks in a game his overall record in the NFL would be like 5-4 and Jim Sorgi would have about 45 starts under his belt.

He isn't going to get benched. And he shouldn't.

The game is so easy to play thousands of miles away on your couch. Don't let that confuse you with real life football.

First I love Rex - as a gator and as a bear fan.

Second - this kid is still a work in progress as an NFL QB.

He alone has made defenses defend the corners of the field against the bears. Now he needs to prove he can be a game manager and pass inside the defenses.

But lets give him a little time to learn how. Im confident it will come.

:D :goodposting: The last I checked this team has only one loss and Rex Grossman was very instrumental in a majority of their wins. To pull this guy after your team is 7-1 at this point in the season does not seem to be the smart thing to do. If he is a major contributor to your team losing say 3 or 4 games down the stretch then you make a change IMHO.

losing Berrian has to hurt him.

If he can build a nice chemistry with the other WRs, he can recover somewhat. I'm not sure if they have another WR who can stretch the field though.

w/o his #1 WR, he's hit 7 different guys tonight.

Considering how little this kid has played, he looks pretty darn good. Barring injury, there's no need to bring in the drunkard.

If you want to mock an offense putting up 30ppg, so be it...
Way to include the defensive points, buddy.
Please... :rolleyes:What is that 24 now? About par for the course...
The offense is actually averaging 25.75 points per game, and that's not even accouting for the generous field position they're given on a regular basis.
Nice argument.
