No wise-crack answers please. Who takes a chance on Rex next year after his one year contract runs out?

I don't think any team brings him in as a starter... at best, he is brought in with a outside chance of winning a job (but as a clear underdog). So I think maybe he'll be a backup in another town, not CHI.

I actually think the Bears will sign him as back up. He knows this is still the best chance for him to start given the Bears injury history at QB. He would not be a bad backup.

Potential free agent QBs in 2009:

- Warner will probably be the QB to get in free agency (assuming he doesn't re-sign or get franchised).

- Alex Smith if he gets cut, younger top draft pick (and would get yet another OC change in his career).

- Grossman has a Super Bowl appearance on his resume. I can see him going to Minny like Berrian did.

- Anderson may be on the market as well. Not sure what teams think of him. Maybe St Louis since he's better than Green.

- Cassel should take a back-up job somewhere. Maybe a place like Dallas.

- Losman, I'm not a fan but perhaps some GM is. Could see New England bringing him in.

- Garcia, but I think he's at the end of his rope.

- Kitna is just a journeyman, but could find a back-up job still. Hope Martz doesn't have the Niners bring him in.

I don't think St Louis cut Bulger and Cincy sticks with Palmer from your list.

I can see other QB openings than you listed:

- Cleveland assuming they don't pay Anderson the roster bonus

- Seattle (Hass getting old, the back-ups aren't impressive, and new coach may bring in "his" guy)

- New England (Cassel is a FA)

- Arizona if they let Warner walk

- Dallas since I don't think Brad Johnson and Bollinger are endearing to the owner's heart right now

- Chicago once Grossman walks

- Tampa Bay since Garcia should be gone and Gruden loves bringing in QBs

And of course there will be a few rookie QBs to take some of the open spots.

?????????

Question is, is Grossman a better investment over any of these?

And of course there will be a few rookie QBs to take some of the open spots.
So I take it you agree that noone will take him on as a starter.

See the bolded. I think someone might.

Warner will retire before he signs elsewhere.

Rex is at best a league average backup. The Bears did EVERYTHING to hand this job to him. No other franchise will offer the opportunity they did. Going elsewhere won't benefit him having to learn a new system/set of WR's.
