Rex Ryan a genius? (1 Viewer)

Why would you put Revis on Derrick Mason? I know Mason is good. Boldin is clearly the best receiver on that team as evidenced by his performance Monday night.

Interesting tidbit I saw on TV - Boldin had 1 catch of 21 or more yards last year; he had 2 on one series Monday night.

Ryan is planning to fool the other 31 teams by running an ineffective, preseason-style vanilla offense with scrubs all season long. That way when the Jets are in the Super Bowl, their opponent will have no useful game film. Genius.

He has his players so convinced they are going to win the Superbowl that they don't need to play hard or focus while on the field.

I think he's BUILDING a pretty good defense....

He needs a Pass Rusher and now he needs a DT.

I expect next years draft to be OLB / DT / S

Jason Taylor was a stop gap signing until they can get a long term answer and like most teams , the Jets have holes they need to try to mask... They desperately need a pas rusher.

Calvin pace coming back will help - Hopefully Poole stays healthy because IMO FS is another big hole right now.....

As for the secondary - I like Wilson for the Long term.... Cromartie - Sheesh, we'll see, at least he probably won't be asking for Revis-like money.. If he's undisciplined all year he won't last on this team -He needs to play within the scheme or he gets the Kerry Rhodes treatment.

They only gave up 10 to a pretty good offense... The 1 TD probably should have been a FG. Good acting job by the PK!!

No. He ran into the kicker. It's a penalty.
I only saw it live (and whatever replays they showed immediately after it happened), and I was doped up on prescription cough syrup, but it didn't look like Edwards ran into the kicker on that play. He ended up on the ground in front of the kicker, where his leg would normally come down. I understand that's still a penalty per the rules, but from what I saw he never actually touched the kicker. It did look like a bit of an acting job on the kicker's part.

He didn't have to act, Edwards being where his leg comes down is a penalty every time.

I acknowledged as much. It doesn't mean the kicker wasn't acting when he flopped to the ground. "It was a penalty" and "the kicker was acting" are not mutually exclusive.

:lmao:

As a fan, it's nothing to argue about or cry about.... It's a rule and all and it happened.... Whatever.

But, we come to this thread to analyze THE DEFENSE.....

And when I step back and look at the defense, I'm not going to say Braylon Edwards is a long term issue that the Defense needs to correct..... The defense made the stop and heck almost stopped em again.

OK - so about the defense. What do you think will happen when the Jets go up against a smarter QB than Flacco? Like say Tom Brady twice, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Rothlisberger? They will no doubt know that Cromartie is walking PI and as close to free yardage as it gets. The rookie may learn, but Cromartie is probably a finished product. This should be more concerning than anything else with the Jets defense.

Come on....the Jets defense held them to 10 points (without Jenkins and Pace). What more do you want? And they were on the field all night because the Jets offense was so pathetic.

I think the Jets D played some good QB's last year and Cromartie is still an upgrade over Lito Sheppard. Though I'm not as confident as before.

I also think Revis being out and 2 new CB's caused some confusion in the defensive backfield that leaves room for improvement..... I think Wilson is a future STUD.

But, yeah, the Key and the target will be Cromartie.....

Cro is another stop gap player the Jets brought in for a 1 year try-out, they didn't pay him big money - He's looking to get paid off of this year. GOOD LUCK.

Going by 1 game Cromartie will be a Free Agent and the Jets will be looking for Wilson to be CB2 while adding depth.

If the Jets paid Cromartie 40 Million on a 5 year deal, I'd be a little more stressed.... He could be CB3 on this defense in a hurry and if he can't cut it here I wonder what defense will take him next yeay and at what cost???

Everyone is relishing in piling on the Jets, that's the price you pay when you run your mouth off all off-season like Rex and Co. did. Everyone is going to come out of the woodwork to kick you when you are down. Despite all the penalties, despite Sanchez and the offense looking like dog crap, despite Greene fumbling and dropping every opportunity, they had a chance to move into game winning field goal range, right up until Keller strolled out of bounds in front of the first down marker on 4th down... That is all due to the Defense and special teams.

If Cundiff were left footed there would be no penalty. A terrible oversight by the Jets. Teams need to game plan for where to land while trying to block a FG...the right side of the kicker or the left side. A well prepared defense would know where Cundiff lands after a FG attempt.

Not like they got burned and lit up.....One week at a time... Revis plays his way into shape. The DB's get on the same page - Someone lights a fire under Cromartie or he sits.. And I'm guessing the Jets are a pretty good defense :thumbup:Jenkins, Pace, and Poole will help - Looks like 2 of 3 will be back soon and I'm guessing they sign Adalius Thomas and some bodies for DL depth. What are we actually debating here? That the Jets D won't be the #1 ranked defense? That the Jets defense stinks?

The D will be fine, its the O thats the issue. Granted Balt is a good D but Rex/Brian didnt attack the weakness of Balts D at all the secondary.

The whole Ray Lewis stuff questions his IQ - If your neighbor has a Pit Bull sleeping on the porch why do you throw rocks at it?

14 penalties show a complete lack of discipline, which goes directly to the head coach. Ryan's aggressiveness and motivational skills are a big reason why the defense plays so well, but it is also a reason why they commit so many penalties. They play too aggressive at times.

Not trying to debate anything. I just wanted to see just how full of sunshine you really were.

I find it really funny that so much attention is being paid to a team that got into the playoffs last year because two teams shut it down in weeks 16 and 17 last year.

They can talk all they want. Unless Sanchez plays better than he did last night, they're not sniffing the Super Bowl.

Put it this way..... On Jets boards I'm known as a DARKSIDER......I always look at My team like I look at any other team.I'm the guy who called 0-3 a great possibility the day the schedule came out with or without Revis.I'm the guy who avoided all Jets in FF drafts and said don't draft Green.....That said, I also think highly of the Ravens and I think they could be the worst possible matchup for the Jets - The Jets goal is to play Ravens Football, the Ravens have a head start on D, QB and RB as well as HC... The Jets want to Bully and man-handle teams, it's not so easy to do to the team you're trying to be.Ravens then Pats on a short week is tough for any team in the league. And as I said all offseason, for this team to have a chance they need to stay healthy and build as the season goes on - especially at QB.....

Young team, built for the future and currently centered around its good defense.

I have to chuckle at the supposedly saavy "sharks" who both overreact to a single game and who inevitably fail to look at the big picture. This is happening with practically every 0-1 team this week. Entertaining.

I was simply questioning his decision to put Revis on Mason not on Boldin. Nothing else. I think that was a mistake. And yet they still almost won. I'm not bashing the Jets or jumping on them after they lost. Most people expected Revis to shut down Boldin.

When asked this very same question on ESPN radio Rex responded that since Revis missed all of training camp he did not want to over exert him - so he just had him play left side CB for the entire game.

OK, well, that makes some sense.

This makes sense. I feel like this could be a psychological thing too. While Revis is building back up to game shape, they don't want to lose the psychological edge that they have against other teams by having Revis get beat a few times by a teams #1 WR. Just a thought I had...

Wow, lots of people piling on the Jets after week 1 ... I guess they deserve some of it, but come on. Personally, as a Jets fan I wish they would just shut the hell up and play ball - you can have an 'attitude' without shooting your mouth off, but I guess that's less entertaining. Still, with all of the hype on the off-season, I pretty much guarantee that none of the people predicting super bowl appearances were Jets fans. Hell, I went into the season hoping for 9-7 again. It just comes with being a long-suffering Jets fan ... the last time I went into a season thinking, "okay this is our year" Vinny Testaverde ruptured his Achilles on the first offensive series of the season. Never again. The Jets could have their current defense, and on offense bring in Peyton Manning, Chris Johnson, Andre Johnson, and Larry Fitzgerald, and we would still expect them to find a way to screw it up. It's the Jets! But we love 'em ... again, I just wish they would shut the hell up and play ball, though

0 -1 genious....

And the Jets wont make the playoffs because they arent smart enough to know that you wont get far with the worst QB in the league , fact is Sanchez cant play in the NFL.

Last year was simply luck....

Say what you want about Rex Ryan, but I would take him over Wade Phillips any day.
I wouldn't trade him for any HC right now....The OC, I'm about ready to ship out...But, damn, what was this the worst 1 point loss to what I consider a top SB contender ever?

I love Rex, but boy is he stupid. You are facing the worst passing defense in football, down by 5 touchdowns in the second quarter, and you continue running the ball the rest of the game. As a Pats fan I was in shock and happy as heck he didn't make much of an effort to expose our secondary.

Every week, he spews the same garbage in the post-game.

"We're better than this."

No. You're not better than this. You're 4-7.
