RGIII has an interesting idea to help RBs (1 Viewer)

No way the players will go on strike, no way the owners renegotiate, but RGIII makes some good points for the next round of negotiations in about 7 years.

Rules changes affecting how well an o-line can run block vs pass block are needed to create demand for RBs who can then demonstrate a higher value over replacement while it becomes harder to demonstrate value over replacement in the passing game at the same time. A Mercedes AMG is not needed when the o-line can successfully block for an AMC Pacer. Such action by league ownership would help modulate the huge paydays for QBs, WRs, and left tackles as well. However, you then have to answer the question of why ownership would do this, given that the overall payroll pie is unchanged. The players union can help achieve this by rattling the cages for shorter rookie contracts and pushing to abandon franchise tag concepts.

That’s the gist of RGIII’s proposal. 3 year contracts for everyone. Eliminate the tag. Get players to FA faster.
I don't know if that would fix this issue except for possibly some of the elite RBs. The other's will still be seen as interchangeable parts and get shafted on contracts because teams will still run them to the ground then dispose of them.

That’s probably never going to go away though regardless. There will always be players like that.

Same thing I suggested in the RBs thread. Best players get the most money. Eliminate this nonsense where happening to have a couple guys on rookie deals at the right time is some major advantage.

This 100%. It would also improve the game. Revise the holding rules so there are not so many holding calls. Do not call holding calls away from the play side.
