Rice cut by Ravens (1 Viewer)

This was all in response to the question, "How could they not?"

I don't think anyone's saying it's impossible the NFL had the footage. I think people are merely saying it's also entirely possible they didn't, and that we can't simply rule out narratives that follow that path.
This league tried to cover up CTE for a long time, at some point can we forgo benefit of the doubt and treat them as we would any common criminal?

Rice is a scumbag, but he's the victim of the NFL feeling the immense pressure of the 2 game suspension. I can't believe for a second that with all the resources the NFL has, they just saw the video.
How would they get it?
How could they not?
Let's say someone called you and asked for your company's security footage. What's your response?
One tape got out, why couldnt this one?
It did get out. Once TMZ managed to pay someone for it. Just like the first one.
Reporters are backtracking now but there were sources providing Mort and King with info on this video including her hitting her head on the rail.http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/wp/2014/09/08/jay-glazer-adam-schefter-among-those-outraged-at-nfl-over-new-ray-rice-video/

If you really believe this footage form this prestigious New Jersey casino on the verge of bankruptcy was unattainable you have blinders on.
I don't know that they're necessarily connected. King and Mort could have simply heard what Rice told Baltimore happened in the elevator.
But why reference the video then and not just say they heard? They would lie just to sound like its from a video?
Depends on what they were told. How many times do sources tell these guys something that's not 100% accurate?
These 2 guys are pretty credible.....is what you are saying possible though sure.

Saw this in the FFA thread dont know if legit:

@johnbreech: Looks like TMZ is going for Roger Goodell next. Harvey Levin today, "When you wake up tomorrow, you will see what the NFL didn't do."

Good job, Ravens.

However, do you think a team will pick him up?
No way. He's a (rightfully) pariah now. No one is going to touch him this season... possibly ever.
That's what they said about Vick.
If there were video of Vick lynching dogs, he'd be dead by now.
Does the video change the fact of what happened? What did you think a KO of a woman by an NFL player looked like? Not what the video shown?

Funny everyone knew he punched her, but now the video is out, they get up in arms again.

No double jeopardy in society.
I had the same thought. When I first heard about it, I assumed he had done it again. So is the rule now indefinite suspension on the first strike, but only if there's video?

One can make the case that even a first offense deserves an indefinite suspension - I wouldn't necessarily argue against it. But to say that video somehow changes the dynamic of the punishment is a dangerous position to take.

To put it another way, should we be seeking justice less vigorously for those that have been beheaded when the beheading wasn't video recorded?

If the NFL wants to champion an ideal, why not also champion a little bit of rationality as well. Perhaps it's a bit too much to ask.

Ravens are a real stand up organization

Or what about Rice's Baltimore teammate, Pro Bowl linebacker Terrell Suggs? Suggs' longtime girlfriend, Candace Williams, claimed in a protective order filed in 2012, obtained by the Baltimore Sun, that Suggs punched her in the neck and drove a car containing their two children at a "high rate of speed" while she was being dragged alongside.

Let's imagine that video for a moment

Also, in a 2009 incident, Williams said Suggs, "held me down on the floor and poured bleach on me and our son, held me down on the floor and kicked my face and broke my nose. Throughout our relationship since early 2007, he has punched me in the face and stomach and threatened to take the children from me if I left him. He stole my ID so I could not leave."

This man played Sunday for the Ravens in their loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Why? Was it because there's no video? Of course it was. And he'll be playing this Thursday night on national television against the Pittsburgh Steelers, even though he shouldn't be, at least according to the NFL's new Rice standards, as of today.

I obviously don't think it was unattainable - but the NFL isn't going to pay good money for it.
I dont see how you think when a crime is committed that security footage only goes to the highest bidder.
I think it also goes to the police, but they don't necessarily release evidence involved in an investigation.

I don't think it matters if the NFL saw the tape, because I think they knew what happened. Either the police or the hotel told them, or they saw the tape. They never thought it would get released, and probably didn't imagine the backlash. This isn't the NFL and the Ravens reacting to the tape, it's the NFL and the Ravens reacting to the reaction.

It was Rice's bad luck that the hotel closed, meaning some clever hotel employee sold the tape. If Revel was still open, no way that tape gets leaked.

I'd bet TMZ arranged for this purchase before the hotel closed, paid the money after the hotel closed, and chose this morning for maximum impact.

Matters to what? Or why?

No one is ever gonna prove the NFL saw the tape, and if they did, what's it gonna prove? That they are (were) soft on domestic violence? We already knew that.

Exactly. Ray Rice isn't suspended because he punched a woman in the face. He's suspended for starting a frenzy on twitter.

Make no mistake. The NFL does not care about domestic violence or it's victims. They care about protecting the shield.

Good thing Greg Hardy has no cameras in his apartment

"Hardy picked me up and threw me into the tile tub area in his bathroom," Holder’s complaint said. "I have bruises from head to toe, including my head, neck, back, shoulders, arms, legs, elbow and feet. Hardy pulled me from the tub by my hair, screaming at me that he was going to kill me, break my arms and other threats that I completely believe. He drug me across the bathroom and out into the bedroom. Hardy choked me with both hands around my throat while I was lying on the floor. Hardy picked me up over his head and threw me onto a couch covered in assault rifles and/or shotguns. I landed on those weapons."

You mean like police arresting men for beating their girlfriends? Those kind of strangers?
And then ban then from joining other teams? Why is Larry Fitzgerald still playing? There's just as much in a police report against Larry Fitzgerald as there is Ray Rice. Neither have been convicted of anything, yet only one is banned? Is this video the only qualification for banning Rice?
No there isn't. You don't know what you are talking about.

That was not a police report, that was a request for a restraining order against Fitzgerald.

There is no actual proof, outside of the alleged victims statement requesting the restraining order that Fitzgerald did what he is accused of. Nothing. None. No call to the police at the time it happened and no documentation from a doctor or emergency room (or photos of injuries) that this ever happened. That is why the NFL took no action of this.

And like you said, even if they come down hard on him its not because of what he did but because Rice's Twitter explosion tarnished the shield.

Irrelevant to the discussion here IMO. Perhaps the NFL would still have ignored it, but I was addressing the police report that Em claim existed.

Huh? It's a huge issue. You don't want to hold Goodell accountable if he lied about seeng the video of this? This is going to get ugly for him and the league office.

Sure, wouldn't want to stand in the way of justice. If the NFL saw the tape, and then denied seeing it, that is a coverup of the highest order and it most definitely will mean the end of many careers, Roger Goodell first and foremost.

Losing his job.

How do you see this being proven?

And no, I really don't care about Goodell being held accountable. Because like I said, they either saw what happened, or heard exactly what happened. They made a decision based on that, and they were blown away by the public reaction, and scrambled to make everyone happy.

I don't really have a problem with any of that.

Wish I could bet against that happening.

What are hoping for here, a video of Goodell watching the video? Can we prove it's not just Two Girls, One Cup?

And Goodell has created a lot of this. Yes the social media headaches cannot be understated but I can never remember these types of weekly scandals when Tag or Rozelle were in charge. Not like this. As the NFL Turns...

So you support Goodell for being soft on domestic violence....very nice.
We were just having a nice back and forth, then you have to twist my words around?

Listen, you and the rest of the Conspiracy Underground can prattle on about a conspiracy/cover up that has almost no chance of ever being proven, if you like.

I am more interested in things I actually think can happen. You really think the NFL issues a statement that can be proven untrue? Really?

MLB paid $50,000 for the ARod steroid evidence. Roger Goodell has a fiduciary responsibility to find that video if he knows it is out there. Why? Because of exactly what happened - the video ends up getting released and causes a huge scandal and loss of revenues for the owners. You do realize that Keith Olbermann just called for a boycott of all Ravens games unless and until everyone is fired for their mishandling of this situation? Goodell absolutely could have obtained that video, and in fact he had a responsibility to do so. That he didn't do so is grounds for dismissal in my opinion.

****'s Sporting Goods stores in the Baltimore area were told to pull Ray Rice jerseys from shelves immediately after the NFL announcement. One store in the area told The Wire that customers have come in to return Ray Rice jerseys. Rice's #27 jersey was still available for sale online. A local pizza joint in Baltimore is allowing the jerseys to be traded in for free pizza:

Rice is being railroaded here..you have to question the timing of the tape's release, as Massraider says..I'll bet the nflpa is licking their chops ready to sue the nfl on any sort of double jeopardy with regards to being punished twice for the same offense...violation of the CBA? Im sure thats Goodell's plan, to let the courts decide when/if he should return, which I'm pretty sure will amount to 6 weeks suspension..thats what they've wanted since the two week debacle..how much time did Ray Lewis get for driving a killer to a commit murder? Stallworth? Little? Beyonce's sister Solange beat up Jayz in an elevator, on cam..was she fired from her job, suspended, fined, persecuted in the media like Rice? nope.double standard there..What Rice did was horrible, no question about it...but he paid the price for it, did the counseling, etc..Mike Vick ran a gambling ring and made it back to the nfl..let that sink in..a gambling ring run by an active player.doesnt matter if its dogs or card games..its still a case of a player running bets..he, of all people, should've been banned for life..

this whole thing is about the nfl trying to save face for being soft...they knew about the video all along, they've seen it, so have the Ravens.Goodell overstepped his bounds, and hopefully the nflpa jumps all over him for it, as they should..you cant first say two weeks, then come back later and say suspended indefinitely..makes the Nfl and the ravens look really, really bad here..

and his wife forgave him already so why shouldnt we?

Bomani Jones of ESPN is saying on a Dan LeBatard interview that Goodell knew what was on that tape and that Ray Rice told him what was on the tape as well even if he didn't see it personally.

This needed to be done. After I watched the video a few times and realized the gravity of what I just saw, it was obvious that this wasn't going to go away.

this whole thing is about the nfl trying to save face for being soft...they knew about the video all along, they've seen it, so have the Ravens.Goodell overstepped his bounds, and hopefully the nflpa jumps all over him for it, as they should..you cant first say two weeks, then come back later and say suspended indefinitely..makes the Nfl and the ravens look really, really bad here..

and his wife forgave him already so why shouldnt we?
I'm a little surprised Jay-Z ever recovered from that beatdown. She should also be banned from the NFL, IMO.

The Ravens likely did see the video before today but didn't think it would get out. Like Goodell, they let TMZ dictate to them the correct moral response.

Killing men while drunk driving, allowed back in the league.

Punch a woman, and get banned from the NFL and should receive death.
######ed, isn't it? It's all about how much info about a situation that can be kept in the closet
Let me be clear, Ray Rice is a doosh, he deserved a stiffer penalty. Problem is I believe in due process. He was already punished for his infraction/mistake/crime, now he is punished again because people saw what they already knew. He shouldnt be punished further.

Self righteousness on this topic is through the roof.
This. His punishment should have been stiffer from the start, but this is too far now.
Too far? In a just world, Rice is spending the season in prison, not on his couch.
Word. In what world does knocking out your fiancee not warrant and assault and battery conviction?

All of a sudden! Because, umm, there wearing a Ray Rice jersey sent a TOTALLY DIFFERENT message YESTERDAY!

Way to take a stand, retailers!

I like living in Maryland, but something that is really unsettling: all the Ray Lewis and Ray Rice jerseys you see ON KIDS. Way to choose a hero, Peeps.

What matters is if the NFL is lying about not seeing the tape.
exactly.... and I really hope TMZ delivers the goods the brings down a big part of the league. Enough is a enough with this sanctimonious crap. If its bad the players do it (it is) then where does the buck stop?

I'd hope Harbaugh and Goodell get bounced

I have a real problem with the NFL assuming this video wouldn't get out... How can they think that honestly? A piece of twitter gold like that just won't stay hidden for long especially if the casino is going under

Me thinks video of the Big Ben debacle would have ended his career...

Me thinks the NFL destroying the spygate tapes maybe gave them a thought that they could avoid this kind of bad press...

When you're made of Teflon you prolly don't worry too much about being shot so often...

Me thinks (and hopes) that this domestic abuse & ray rice debacle wakes them up to make some big big changes as far as what they tolerate in that realm... If what has been reported is true (regardless of video or not) then there are a TON of players who shouldn't be seeing the field anytime soon or in my opinion ever again

Looking at you T-sizzle (More like T-#######... Ball so hard?)

Looking at you Greg Hardy (how can he even be playing right now?)

There are a lot of bad dudes in the NFL

Has the NFL ever abandoned a policy quicker than this one?

I thought it was 6 games 1st offense; lifetime ban for the 2nd?

Did I miss the indefinite suspension provision???

Goodell is a moron and should be fired. Rice should have been out a year to begin with, but Goodell just keeps compounding the problem. He'd be overmatched running a car wash (no offense to anyone out there running a car wash).
I don't believe this applies. The NFL didn't change the suspension. The Ravens just decided to terminate his contract.
What?

The NFL suspended Rice for two games several weeks ago.

After significant uproar, the NFL instituted a policy of 6 game suspension 1st offense; lifetime ban after the 2nd offense

Today, after release of the video showing Rice's KO punch, the NFL suspended Rice "indefinitely."

Goodell should do the honorable thing and just resign. He's clearly out of his depth.
Reviewing my post yesterday I was not up on the most recent story. So the Ravens did terminate his contract but the NFL did hand down an indefinite suspension. They sure look bad bouncing around on 2 games vs. 6 games vs. indefinite. They just aren't sure how to handle this.

yeah, I hope the nfl gets run out of business --- I am so outraged right now.

####### FOOTBALL!!!

I'm switching to fantasy soccer in support ---- WHO'S WITH ME??!!

How long til Rice and or wife make a statement?
"I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend," Janay Rice wrote. "But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret every day is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ### off for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific.

"THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!"

Saw this review of a Terrell Suggs jersey on the NFL Shop website:

-----------------------------------------------------
By Woman H8r from Baltimore, MD on 9/9/2014
Your Rating: 5 stars
Headline: Show your domestic violence pride!

Sizing : Feels true to size
Pros : Authentic Design, Comfortable, Breathable
Best Uses : Around Town, Watching The Game on TV, At The Game, School, Tailgating
Describe Yourself : Die Hard Sports Fan, Stylish

Do you hate women, or are you a woman who hates herself? Are you a frustrated shopper, who can't get that Ray Rice jersey you want, after the Ravens and the NFL "took a stand" yesterday?

Well, stand behind the Ravens and the NFL in showing your support for violence to women with this sleek item! Nothing says misogyny like a #27 Ravens jersey. But since those are no longer available, sport one of THESE bad boys! I know #55 only punched his woman in the neck, and not the face, and I know that it wasn't caught on film - which is what REALLY matters, but this jersey says "woman hater" all the way!

That's the thing. In the name of helping victims of domestic abuse, the media is turning the victim's life upside down. This has nothing to do with supporting a victim any more. This is all sensationalism. All the dirtbags who profit off bringing attention to other people's misery are out to make a buck here. Anyone who actually cared about the 'victim' of this abuse (Janay Rice) would at least try to respect her wishes and privacy.

This thing is so overblown it's simply disgusting.
