Ricky is back (1 Viewer)

According to NFLPA website he is due to be a FA in 2008.
If he plays 6 games this year that will meet the eligibility to count this as a full season. For that reason I don't expect to see him play against Philly. It'll give the front office more options. Also, there's no way that Ricky is game ready after another year and a half off. I'm sure he's in shape but there's no way he's in football shape, not to mention he's stepping into a completely foreign offense.
hes a RB, its not that hard to learn the offense.hes not eligible to play until the pittsburgh gamericky williams has ALWAYS been a beast when he is on the field. just look at miami's record with him and without him.
Totally understand what you're saying. I've always been a RW fan.If I'm the Dolphins I make sure he doesn't play 6 games this year just so that they have his rights for next year. It just gives them more options.

this whole 'ricky let the team down' thing is BS. wannstadt let the team down when he ran RW into the ground and made their entire offense revolve around one player
Thank you, thank you for saying that. I've been saying if for years and felt no one would listen. I lost what little respect I had for Wanny after he blamed the Dolphins woes on Ricky retiring. Wanny not only ran him into the ground Ricky carried the ball more in a 2 year period than any RB in the history of the game and he did so behind a poor OL with little threat of a passing attack. After 2 years of that crap Ricky wanted to retire and I don't blame him yet Wanny and members of the Dolphins used Ricky as a cop out for their poor season and labeled him a quitter. I never got that. Other RB's like Barry Sanders, Jim Brown and other players like Willie Roaf and Tarik Glenn retired just before preseason but I never heard them called a quitter.

I don't think it's as simple as them not playing him. I think they have to just activate him or release him within the next two weeks. If they activate him, he's got his six games. and they just can't suspend him fr no reason. Didn't Philly go through smething like this with TO?

exactly.i dont understand how one football player can let the team down, especially a running back. anyone who says ricky is a distraction or will cause some sort of problem has never been in a locker room

I sent an email to Yahoo and this was their response:

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Sports.

I appreciate your inquiry with regards to adding Ricky Williams into the

A little disappointing for me - I am near the bottom of WW priority, and I was hoping to stealthly pick him up as a FA (I'm a Chatman owner.)

thanks for that... i have #1 priority... been holding onto it for awhile now...might as well use it on ricky seeing as how i don't see anything with better upside ever coming out.

Joey Porter theory, volunteered when asked Wednesday if he would welcome Williams into the sanctum of the locker room.

''Yeah I would. We're 0-9,'' Porter said. `` I'd welcome bin Laden if he could run the ball like Ricky did.''

 Ricky didn't "retire" because he was tired of football, he "retired" because he was going to get busted for smoking pot and he knew it. You Ricky apologists kill me.

You don't know that.I like Ricky. I think he's a better person than many in the NFL but he did abandon his team and did it at a bad time. That said most of those teammates welcomed him back.Ricky is flaky but he is also a good teammate when with the team and a hard worker without an ego. I'll take him anyday over Michael Irvin and TO.

I have the #1 priority as well. I have been holding it for several weeks hoping someone would panic and drop a player worth the number 1. I think I may have to use it on Ricky now. Even though I am sure someone will end up dropping a stud right after I use it. :goodposting:

So you think Ricky was trying to hid that he smoked weed? Or that he was ashamed of smoking weed? This guy talked about weed as much as Snoop Dog, he wanted to smoke while playing in the NFL and was vocal about it. When Ricky retired he was tired of the hitting and had enough money that I really think he would've been happy just smoking weed and teaching yoga the rest of his life. The fact that we wound up owing more money then he had played a role in him coming back, but getting busted for pot was never something that would bother an outspoken pothead.

If the Dolphins get the 2 week roster exemption, they can activate him and he will not play 6 games therefore, they retain his rights and that gives them options for 2008 while Ronnie gets healthy. You have to figure Ronnie will not be 100% until 2009 even though he may play OK the end of 2008

I still can't find him on Yahoo...even when I go to status changes.

I believe the mystery was solved earlier in this thread. Please don't get mad at me if you read the whole thing and don't find it. It could be in one of the other Ricky threads on the front page. Seems like they said that he would be added for Thursday waivers, but since I'm not in Yahoo I didn't pay close attention.

So, who understands the reinstatement rules? Does he automatically count against the 53 man roster, or is there an exemption like the PUP guys? Obviously the Dolphins have nothing to play for but pride, and I don't think Ricky fits into that category for this team. They get nothing in return if they cut him now except a very low veteran salary. And what is Ricky's contract status? Is he signed through next year? If so, an offseason trade makes the most sense and he may see significant playing time this season as he is showcased for a draft-day trade.
Speculation is that Miami will get a few weeks' roster exemption to figure it all out.
Thanks Jeff, do you think he is worth a roster spot in a redraft league?Any other staff members have an opinion on him? Haven't found anything discussing Ricky, figured he would be a hot topic for the Round table.

back on my dynasty team after I traded him right before the last go round. Gotta be worth something. Dropped Culpepper (Favre, Bulger, Edwards, Beck, JaMarcus).

I hope Ricky comes back and plays strong.
As long as he keep his nose clean he will be back sooner rather than later . . .Rotoworld:Ricky Williams "surprised himself" with his speed and agility during a Dolphins voluntary workout on Monday, according to his agent Leigh Steinberg.Williams will begin participating in full practices on Wednesday with a decision about his Week 12 status to be made later in the week. With added muscle to his upper body, Williams came in at 231 pounds or 18 pounds more than his playing weight during the 2005 season.

Ricky's impact probably does not matter and Adrian Peterson should be fine come FF playoffs. But my commish is an idiot. My claim was processed Monday night/Tuesday morning. Waivers are processed on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. People in my league complained that I was able to pick him up before the weekend waivers were processed even though it was completely legit since he was on waivers since Saturday and it worked just as if a player was on waivers. Yahoo even states in the rules that only players that were FA's before the sunday games start are put on waiver lockdown, all other players already on waivers are treated as if it was midweek.
