There is no need to smear my name or to defame my character for the sake of news. When the time is right, God willing, I will be back on the field scoring touchdowns for whatever team is fortunate enough to believe in me."

I typically defend drug users as I think they simply need help rather than bashing. All that said though Ricky has had so many chances...he really is the Robert Downey Jr of the NFL...he is now 30 years old or will be very soon...I just think its time he moved on to another chapter in his life. There has to be other things he enjoys doing and he has the personality to do a lot of things inn this world. I feel he would be better off to simply walk away from the NFL and pursue other things. He can stop taking piss tests and fooling himself into thinking he can be what the NFL wants him to be. I respect the fact he wants to keep smoking ganja, so just go be yourself Ricky, no reason to keep wasting everyone's time including your own.

Slinger releases a statement in regards to the Ricky Williams situation:

:2cents: Wahhh! :2cents: Wahhh! :2cents: I want to smoke the green stuff and play football!

Go run in traffic while Ricky. The next person that mentions his name to me in person will get sucker punched in the face.

I'm going to go Jim Carey from Enternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on his ### because I swear to God I will go loco if I wake up tomorow and remember who he is.

:11: I had a stressful day so instead of dealing with it like an adult, I'm going to smoke some pot and risk losing out on million of dollars. :11:

You know what, don't run in traffic. You'll waste someone's else time with the mess and God knows you love doing that. Just run into a brick wall over and over again until you feel that high feeling that you're so in love with.

So Ricky was clean all last year in Canada, didn't go to India so he could stay here and be tested 3 times a week and then smoked a doobie a month ago.Possible, but sure seems dumb.

What? When did Ricky get stopped for drunk driving, possession of heroin and a firearm? He has a health condition where pot helps. If it wasn't the NFL he could get a prescription for medical marijuana.

"During traffic stop for speeding, he was arrested for drunk driving, possession of heroin, and possession of an unloaded pistol in his pickup truck. This was his first reported brush with the law at age 31. He was given a suspended prison sentence of 3 years, and granted probation with requirements of random drug testing and drug counselling. [August 1996]

After 3 violations of "probation" for drug and alcohol abuse in a three year span of time since he was spared a prison sentence and placed on probation, Malibu Judge Lawrence Mira stated that he was out of options and that he was sentencing Downey to prison to save his life because Downey would not take the responsibility of refraining from alcohol and drug use on his own. The Judge invoked the 3 years sentence in state prison that had been suspended in 1996. Downey, Dept of Corrections # P50522, spent 2 weeks in a state prison Reception Center at Wasco, California for orientation, and on 8/25/99 he was transferred to a Dept of Corrections prison named "SATF" (Substance Abuse Treatment Facility) for drug dependent prisoners in Corcoran California. Scheduled release date: 11/2/2000. SATF is across the street from the other Corcoran Prison where inmates were shot to death on the exercise yard during fights in the 1990's. Downey's lawyers have approached the Malibu judge several times in the last 11 months to request Downey's release, but the Judge has refused. [6 August 1999]

Is it possible that he intentionally sabotaged his career? It's convienent that he passed every test since he was suspended and just before he is to be reinstated this happens. Is it possible that he is happy doing the yoga thing and this was a way for him to not "have" to deal with NFL and all that comes along with it, including paying back the $ the Dolphins came after him for.

Ricky was your #1 pick in your dynasty league a few years ago, huh ? :lmao:

In a statement released to the Associated Press through his agent, Leigh Steinberg, Williams did not admit to failing the drug test nor did he deny it. Williams implied the decision to delay his possible reinstatement from a one-year suspension to at least September was as a result of his consultation with a league-appointed psychiatrist, not a flunked drug test."Due to the recent reports about me failing a drug test, I feel it is appropriate for me to issue this statement," Williams said. "Last month, following a psychological evaluation requested by the NFL, we — the psychiatrist and I — came to the realization that there were a few things I needed to iron out about myself in order to make my return to the NFL as successful as possible.
This actually makes more sense than the ESPN report. If Ricky did fail a drug test, he would not be eligable for reinstatement in September. He would be gone for good.

That's a good point. He already had the third strike and the year suspension. Another blown test and the guy is gone for good. So, how can he he be eligible in September.....

GB Ricky. Perspective is nice and his message to the media was refreshing.

We frequent a football message board. Our perspective on the game is obviously skewed.

It's football.

Seriously? He took no responsibility whatsoever for his actions. He is only hurting himself, of course (and maybe the Dolphins, I suppose), but what exactly did you find "refreshing" about that statement?

...I just think its time he moved on to another chapter in his life. There has to be other things he enjoys doing and he has the personality to do a lot of things inn this world...
What is it that makes you feel this way? Are you just being nice here? Isn't this the guy who used to wear his helmet during interviews? I didn't realize that Ricky Williams had that great of a personality, but maybe you know more about the man than I do. Would you care to elaborate?

He would make a great drug counselor. Whenever the addict would say: "I really screwed up. I did drugs.", Ricky could say: "Been there, done that. Now let's work out a plan to get you off drugs sometime in the next couple of decades."

i love how mad this makes people. Everyone forgets that Ricky Williams is a human being and a man. How many men or women do all of you know that mess their lives up because of drugs? And I mean serious drugs, not pot. Ricky likes to live a certain way. Some people just aren't in love with the football lifestyle. Thats ok. I dont understand why some of you guys take it so personally like he's stealing food from babies. If the dude wants to sit on a beach somewhere with a yoga mat in one hand and a joint in the other, so be it. Let him live however the hell he wants. Just because he has a talent doesn't mean he HAS to use it. Is it a waste of money and God given ability? Sure it is. But I'm sure the same could be said about many people who live on your street or in your town. Just because he's a football player or was a football player, doesn't mean that has to be his entire LIFE like everyone thinks it should be.

Whoa whoa whoa, this is Footballguys, where we all go 110%, and if a guy doesn't give it his all for our fantasy team, we get angry and hostile. Ricky Williams is my enemy

pot > money

You can judge people by their actions ......... Ricky Williams chooses to smoke dope over everything else in his life. Thats a 100% inescapable true right now, and over the past 2-3 years

That's Dan Lebatard's take on the situation.Lebatard, as you'll recall is Ricky's confidant. He wondered aloud on ESPN radio yesterday how Ricky could test clean for a year, then test positive right before he's set to return to the league. Dan believes that he did it intentionally, because as much as Ricky loves football, he doesn't love everything that comes with it... fame, media scrutiny, critics, etc. He suspected that Ricky came to the realization that he's simply rather live life on his own terms. Teaching yoga, smoking pot and meditating. Money has never meant anything to RW.

Ricky didn't choose pot "over" those things. He chose to live his life the way he wants to live his life. How many people secretly wish they could let their passion dictate the manner in which they exist, rather than punching the time clock every day?Ricky has no boundaries, no rules, no restrictions. For that, I envy him.

Maybe he could be a guest host for SNL........

Guy has a very bad disorder. He needs help for it. Is a very talented football player, not a crime driven thug.

Get him the physc treament he needs, legalize weed, simple as that

/not a pot smoker

MOP may not know more about Ricky than you do, but he probably doesn't know less either. Neither of you really know him I'm beting so your opinions are your take on who he is. MOP just chose a more positive view than you seem to take.

Don't smoke pot and be an adult. Simple as that. He does have a disorder. It's called being a moron. A crime driven thug are those who committ crimes and acts like a thug. What part of this doesn't equate to Ricky Williams?Other then that you're right on the money.

Nah, but I did trade a decent RB who isn't a druggie for him a few years ago.

I'm not sure if you're talking about Ricky Williams or myself, but you're dead on.

Per PFT

"Ricky Williams appeared at a Miami Press Conference wearing sunglasses and carrying a boom box. He was murmering or chanting softly, in a yoga meditation, and the boom box was playing "pass the dutchie to the left hand side" loudly. He did not appear coherent or able to answer questions."

So did he officially fail a drug test, or is it assumed? I was wondering if he could be forcing the Dolphins to give up his rights in hopes he can get a better salary than league min.

He chose to live his life the way he wants to live his life.
yes, he chooses dope over everything else in his lifeRicky makes decision based on dope - not on his career, not on his teammates, not on the organization that gave him a chance, not on the coaches, not on the fans and not on anything else.yes, he chooses all of this ......... to Ricky dope is greater than everything elseHow do I know this ? Because Ricky proved it, he's chosen dope time and again over eveything

Too bad...I really like the guy. Even with his social anxiety problems, he gives a better interview than 99% of the mouth-breathers in the league. The media is the villian here, let Ricky be Ricky and move on...

He's the villian. All he had to do is lay off the green stuff (which is illegal) for a few years. He has no choice, but to move on because he's yesterday's news.

You sound like a well adjusted adult. I bet Ricky could learn a thing or two from such an upstanding member of society.

Who are you or I to say there is anything wrong with that? We make choices and we live with them. If he would rather smoke pot than play football isn't that his choice? We might think he is crazy but different people have different priorities. As long as he isn't hurting anyone else, live and let live I say.If he is affecting your dynasty team, well it isn't like it was a hidden risk. Everyone knew this was a possibility.
