Ricky Releases Statement (1 Viewer)

Seems like a nice dude. If he wants to play, I hope he gets a chance. If not, keep stretching those balls with yoga

He can make any choices he wants.

But 20 years from now, he'll be on the news about how the NFL doesn't provide a good enough retirement.

Guy has a very bad disorder. He needs help for it. Is a very talented football player, not a crime driven thug. Get him the physc treament he needs, legalize weed, simple as that not a pot smoker
Don't smoke pot and be an adult. Simple as that. He does have a disorder. It's called being a moron. A crime driven thug are those who committ crimes and acts like a thug. What part of this doesn't equate to Ricky Williams?Other then that you're right on the money.
Personally, I think alcohol is worse than pot. I don't know of too many cases where someone got killed by another driving on the influence of pot. I do know that alcohol makes people act a lot more stupid than those smoking pot. I think the wrong drug is legal.

I don't like contributing to the de-railing of threads but I felt like contributing something here:

Cigarettes were illegal at the turn of the century. All the scientific evidence has shown that marijuana is not only less-bad, it actually has some positive benefits to the average joe and jane! Cigarettes only succeed at doing a few things - giving people heart disease, less energy, and dependency.

A few of the bodybuilders I know smoke the herb because it doesn't interfere with their cardiovascular strength, but NONE of them would touch cigarettes because of the detrimental health effects.

Booze causes people to make horrible decisions (have unprotected sex, drive in a car totally inebriated, black out and do something stupid), but the worst I've heard of pot causing is panic attacks (it caused me to have panic attacks, it was not the only one - a long story that involved a few things, but it was one of the triggers; I have since overcome them). Panic attacks aren't exactly lethal (although they sure make you feel like your dieing) but if considering thats a mental condition that can be cured, in the long run it doesn't seem too bad in comparison to booze and cigarettes, which WILL severely hurt your quality of life.

pot > moneypot > playing in the NFL

pot > reputation

pot > respect

pot > family

pot > friends

pot > teammates

pot > fans

pot > LIFE

Ricky has no boundaries, no rules, no restrictions. For that, I envy him.
Charles Manson and Ted Bundy didn't follow the rules and didn't have boundaries either, do you envy them?

I don't envy people who make unintelligent decisions. He could have just played football for millions of dollars and stayed off the pot for a few years. At 35, retire and smoke pounds of it for the rest of his life.....but he couldn't because he's addicted.

He's a sad story as far as I'm concerned. There are millions of people who would have loved to be in his shoes and he smoked it away.

That's not the issue here though........the fact is that it is currently illegal and you can't play football in the NFL and smoke pot. With that knowledge......you don't do it because football players make millions and millions of dollars and those same people can't make that kind of money doing something else. So, you stay off it and then retire and do what you want.

It has nothing to do with comparing marijuana to some of the things that are currently legal to use.

WOO Cowboy!

Don't you think your comparisions here are a TAD OVERBOARD?

If Manson or Bundy had inhaled a little herb it's a good bet there story would have been diffrent.

Think about it, Ricky was THE OFFENCE for Miami... Run Run Run pound the ball. How many carries was he averageing, 350?

S**T. After a game a little toke and watching TV to relieve the stress and pounding from a NFL Game seems, but may not be legal, OK to me personally.

With all the depression coming out of the NFL from retired players, who can really fault this?

They certainly were illegal a the turn of the century. I believe it was the 16th century.

Well, I certainly wouldn't think it would be during the game. Look, I'm not here to say whether it should be legal or not, I'm just saying right now, it's NOT. So, he's made in my mind some very bad decisions. I'm surprised how much slack he gets from everyone, saying it's his life man, he can do what he wants. It certainly is but that doesn't mean what he's doing isn't dumb. If he wants to blow millions and millions of dollars (which he has), go right ahead, it won't effect my life. He'll probably say himself in about 10 years how he wished he would have done things differently when he could have.

OK , so Ill admit its dumb as hell when your a gifted athlete to hurt yourself by smoking pot and alot of people would kill to be given your talent.

However, The statics for Americans who try pot in nuts in comparison to more dangerous drugs. This isnt crack cocaine and heroin. He's not a leader of a drug cartel. He not out on the streets given laced candy to children.

* Marijuana is the most frequently used illegal drug in the United States. Nearly 95 million Americans over the age of 12 have tried marijuana at least once.

* Over 14 million had used the drug in the month before the survey.

The Monitoring the Future Survey, which is conducted yearly, includes students from 8th, 10th, and 12th grades. In 2003, the survey showed that 18 percent of 8th-graders have tried marijuana at least once, and by 10th grade, 17 percent are “current” users (that is, used within the past month) (19). Among 12th-graders, 46 percent have tried marijuana/hash at least once, and about 21 percent were current users

So if this government survey is correct, over half of you have tried it and

1/4 prob still smoke. And thats ..........

In fact, if everyone who has tried marijuana was arrested, prosecuted and jailed, pursuant to our outdated marijuana laws, over 100 million Americans would be in prison. Lets not act too righteous ok ?

I hope someone gives him a shot. Hes a good guy , hes just always has followed his own path in life, I kinda respect it.
