Ride Barber to the title! (1 Viewer)

Some of you probably think that Barber has been a dissapointment lately (Im not one of them). His stat line so far this year is in 12 games ... 162 rushes for 796 yards a 4.9 average and 7 TD's. He also has 30 receptions for 198 or a 6.6 average and 1 TD. But, he has only scored 1 TD in his last 4 games. Not dissapointing by my standards, but struggled lately. But take a closer look, and you will see why I think he is going to be a force down the stretch. Your opinions are welcome, because (even though I cant afford to bench him), it is enlightening to get differing opinions and be informed of details I may be missing.

The affore mentioned last 3 of 4 rough games.

@NYG 12 for 34 for 2.8 avg. 3 rec. for -1. 0 total TD

WAS 15 for 43 for 2.9 avg. 1 rec. for 7. 0 total TD

GB 17 for 81 for 4.8 avg. 1 rec. for -3 0 total TD

Given, not a great stat line for anyone. Only one game where rushed close to his yards/carry average for the year. Taking a close look, @NYG who is 5th against the run (and only allowed 7 rush TD's this year), WAS who is 10th (allowed only 8 rush TDs this year), and GB who is 12th (but only allowed 4 rush TD's this year). Not too bad, only one team outside the top 10 in rush D and all seem to make you pass to score. All 3 games were close where you abuse the run game and Barber gets his monster stats as well.

Next three games (playoffs for most) are:

@ Detroit

Philadelphia

@ Carolina

@DET is 15th against the run (allowed 11 rush), PHI is 9th (allowed 8), and @CAR is 17th against the run this year (but allowed 11 rushing TDs so far this year). A little easier schedule to put it in the endzone against. Take into account that Roy is out for the year, McNabb is banged up, and Car just stinks (and the defense is a shell of what it once was), these could all be blowouts! Enter Barber and meaningless yards and TD's. After what AD and Chester did to Detroit last week, Marion could start your playoff run out nicely. I would expect 100+ and a trip to the endzone (wouldnt be surprised with 2).

Not sure how this works out exactly, but thought it was interesting stat as well. Home games this year, Barber has 3 TD's in 7 Games. Away games, he has 4 TDs in 5 games. It doesnt make sense, but Im not going to argue with trends. 2 out the next 3 ... away games! Oh yeah, and the only home game ... a Saturday night fiasco where I am sure he will want to "show well" for all to see!

Regardless, I am sure that most of you are in the same situation as I am and cannot afford to bench him anyway, but I am expecting good things from Barber for my playoff run. Here's to you if you are in the same boat

Enthusiasm - A+

Research - B+

Soundness of argument - C-

Given the fact that you have to start him (and I do too, BTW) I think your vested interest has forced you to look for reasons to believe he will see an incresaed performance. True, his matchups get a LITTLE easier, but I feel you're reaching a bit w/ some of the logic. But, I do admire your enthusiasm, so  to you

i had him in one league this year, and wound up trading him away. i really enjoy watching him play, with his aggressive style and the signature stiff arms, but fantasy-wise, i don't think he's an every week starter right now. the good thing is, dallas seems to utilize him in the 4th quarters to grind clock when they are ahead, but other than that, he doesn't get enough touches on an every week basis to be consistently productive. and lately, when they insert him at the goal line, he's been somewhat ineffective. and if he only touches the ball 10-12 times per game, he's going to have his share of stinkers. now if julius jones gets injured along the way, barber's value goes through the roof as an RB1. what i'm trying to say is, if you are counting on a hit or miss platoon player like barber to carry you through the playoffs, you may be disappointed. don't stop scanning the waiver wire for a kolby smith or a fred jackson, who may turn into the next earnest graham or ryan grant... contrary to what a lot of people will tell you, i don't adhere to 'play your studs', i think you need to play your matchups and never stop looking to improve your roster... just my thoughts...

The problem is with the lead, I wouldn't be surprised if JJ got more touches.. make no mistake they value Barber and his health more than Julius' for the playoffs.

Home games this year, Barber has 3 TD's in 7 Games. Away games, he has 4 TDs in 5 games.
You might want to take another look. 3 in 7 and 4 in 5 is a little different than 3 in 5 and 4 in 7, but by all means ... run with it. Just in case you want the math too, that is 43% and 80% when actually using the correct numbers.

Damn I benched him for Fargas this week. And I benched Fargas for him last week! Can anyone tell me when to play these guys?

Jeez! Guess I have to start MBIII next week.

I thought you meant Tiki  when i read the thread title...i was like ..huh ?

Marion slipped my mind...but yes he looks awsome ..runs with urgency and abandon.
