RIP Greg Landry (1 Viewer)

Remember him as the Lions QB and a replacement for an injured Bert Jones with Baltimore.

First Baltimore Colts game I ever went to was September 16, 1979 in Cleveland. Landry started for an injured Bert Jones. I remember the Colts blocking a punt and went in for a TD to take a 7-0 lead. Pro-Football reference says it was a fumble recovery for a TD, but I thought it was a blocked punt. I do know they were punting. Maybe my memory is off after 45 years. I went nuts with excitement, but that was soon extinguished when someone threw a liquor bottle and hit me in the head. I never showed any more emotion the rest of the day. The bottle just bounced on the concrete and didn’t break. Made them well back then I suppose. Colts kicker Toni Linhart (RIP) missed 3 makable field goals and the Colts lost 13-10. Landry was 17/29 for 185 yards and no TDs or INTs. That was my Greg Landry experience in person.

The legendary Greg Landry / Bill Munson platoon of the late 60s - mid 70s was awesome. The Lions finished 2nd in the NFC Norris 7 times in a row
I'm a Packer fan I'll always remember this play by Landry as it epitomized the ineptitude of the post Lombardi Packers:
RIP Greg Landry
