RIP Robin Williams (1 Viewer)

This is on par with Steve Irwin to me. I grew up watching the Crocodile Hunter, but Robin Williams I didn't have to watch every day to feel like he made an impression on me.
I saw someone else make that comparison on Facebook. Don't get the comparison at all but if it's like that way for you, OK.

"Thank You for choosing Magic Carpet for all your travel needs. Don't stand until the rug has come to a complete stop. Thank You! Goodbye, now. Goodbye. Goodbye. Thank You. Goodbye."

The first season of Mork and Mindy was by far the best. They ruined it by trying to create a romance between Mork and Pam Dawber. The romantic tension was always there, but when it became a thing, and then marriage, the show was dead to me.

I discovered him listening to his album "Reality What a Concept". My friends and I loved it. He dealt with demons all his life. I am sad that he felt the need to take his life if that is what they find. RIP.

So I'm clearly an idiot. They say death by asphyxia. What exactly are they saying? He hung himself is where my mind goes. What other ways does one commit suicide by asphyxia?

Sad, he grew up in Michigan, not that far from me. He lived a really blessed life from day 1...sad that he left the world so miserable.

exhaust from a car
That was the other thing I thought of. I didn't know if that was considered carbon monoxide poisoning and therefore a different term applied.

Anyone heard what specific thing is being speculated or reported on?

This man had more body hair than any man I had ever seen. He had hair coming out of hair. His arms and chest air could have been used to build an animal.

There are celebrities, and there are permanent celebrities. Robin Williams was a permanent celebrity. Especially for people our age. He was at the peak of his career as a comedian when I was growing up and he was an outstanding actor who mellowed a little just around the time I started to. He didn't just change his roles he changed as a person and he let us see the ups and the downs with very little censorship. I wouldn't say I was his biggest fan and I never gave him the credit he deserved, but I think all of us knew he was a part of our collective consciousness. He was a great man and he will be missed. Rest in peace. And thank you.
Well said.

Good Morning Vietnam still my favorite of his.

Sad news.
Sad indeed. That early scene of him first appearing on the radio broadcast in GMV was as good as it gets.

Most times stuff like this doesn't bother me, but this one sort of hurts. If it had been an accident or drug overdose I don't know that I would have been this upset.

Loved him in most of the things mentioned here and just saw him in World's Greatest Dad and thought it and he was great in it.

not to continue the speculation, but I guess I am.... it could have been a drug OD for all we know.

A genius. An all-time great. A part of many of our lives; literally from when we begin remembering ####... mork and mindy for us 70's babies.

It's amazing, and so sad, that those who make others most happy, can be the ones that hurt the most, within.

I just hope he had enough highs in what must have been an absolutely crazy life.

RIP Robin.

Apparently the real doctor he portrayed in Awakenings used to write on his arms. In the movie he had to write on his lab coat because his arms were so hairy.

What a loss. There are very few actors with his range and eye for material. Garp and Dead Poets Society were seminal movies for me growing up. I'm always grateful that we still have the films when these guys go. I didn't know him but the films are a big part of my past. That's why I love movies and the crazy ####ers that make them.

Loved his stuff. You could tell watching him that there was this deep sadness there that the humor was attempting to cover. RIP Mr. Williams.

wasn't really a fan of his shtick, but he did have a few good roles (Good Will Hunting, One Hour Photo, Insomnia)...stuff like Patch Adams, Bicentennial Man and Mrs Doubtfire was borderline unwatchable though

I realize I probably sound like an insensitive #####....certainly not happy he's gone by any means

Wow, my wife just told me about this. Too bad.

I've never been a fan of Robin Williams at all; I thought he was one of the most overrated comedians in history. But the guy was also an institution for folks my age, and you have to respect that. RIP.

This just sucks. So many great movies, it would be difficult to pick my favorite. For a man that gave so much laughter to others, I hope he found some peace for himself.

He was a crossover genius. I'll never forget when he used to get Johnny Carson in tears from laughing so hard. Here's a snippet..

To me as a comic he was like a faster version of Doug Stanhope. Brilliant rants that could go any direction.

I was impressed with his work in film even more than his standup stuff. He could do the comedy stuff, but I really liked his more serious roles. He had something in him that people could believe and relate to.

Obviously had his troubles with drinking, drugs and depression. So incredibly sad that he felt he had to take his own life. Wonder if he was depressed over recent career developments. I know Angriest Man in Brooklyn was destroyed on Rotten Tomatoes. I hope that didn't contribute to his decision. Work is just what you do, it's not who you are.

RIP in Robin.
