It was a meaty run.

Gwar frontman Dave Brockie has died at the age of 50.
The metal star, known to fans by his stage name Oderus Urungus , was found dead at his home yesterday evening (March 23) by his roommate.
"Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known," ex-GWAR bassist Mike Bishop told Richmond's Style Weekly. "He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art."
Richmond Police Department spokeswoman Dionne Waugh later added to the magazine that they "do not suspect foul play at this time".
Lamb of God frontman Randall Blythe wrote on Instagram: "I got a very sad call tonight from my buddy Chris Bopst, who was one of the original members of GWAR- my friend Dave Brockie, AKA Oderus Urungus, the singer of GWAR, has left the building & taken off back to his home planet.
"He was 50 years old. I do not know details of why he died yet, just that he passed away at home & his roommates found him."
He added: "When someone dies, a lot of the time people will say, 'Oh, he was a unique person, really one of a kind, a true original' - most of these people no idea of what they are talking about- they obviously had never met Dave. Dave TRULY WAS ONE OF A KIND - I can't think of ANYONE even remotely like him. That's VERY HARD TO SAY."
Former Gwar guitarist Steve Douglas wrote on Facebook: "I have had a few bad days in my life but this one truly ranks right up there. Dave Brockie, I do not know what happened to you yet, but I know you are gone and it is hurting very badly!"
Brockie founded Gwar in 1984 and the band released their 13th studio album Battle Maximus last year. The band were due to play their fifth GWAR-B-Q at Hadad's Water Park in Richmond, VA on Saturday, August 16. There has not yet been an official statement from the band or their representatives.
Yep. Never owned a GWAR album, but in reality I think the music was only a small part of the point.Tip of the cap. As one of the FFA's resident metalheads, I have to say I was never much of a GWAR guy, but their live show was something to behold and I always admired their theatricality. There was an intelligence that provided the underpinning of the insanity and debauchery taking place on stage, always a little more going on than just the shock value.
Precisely. I never had even a cassette copy of one of their albums back in the day. I don't think I know anyone IRL who had one, nor do I ever remember an instance where someone put one on in my presence. But I've seen them live about 10 times. Weird - they're the only band ever about whom I can say that.Yep. Never owned a GWAR album, but in reality I think the music was only a small part of the point.Tip of the cap. The guys who took GWAR a little too seriously were always a bit "off".Never caught onto them in any way, but I worked with a guy in high school (circa '89-90) who was totally into them - we were essentially parking lot attendants at a wedding chapel, and he was a few years older than me and out of high school. He I think had dropped out of UC Santa Barbara and was obviously a hard partier, and he made every show in the region, driving hours if need be.
I'd try to express interest in the antics as he described them to me in excruciating detail, but pretty much tuned him out. It didn't sound like something I'd be all that interested in going to see, but I can appreciate the general idea of their satire cloaked in a metal band.
It pretty much sounds like a more sexualized and vulgar version of a Douglas Adams novel. The guys who took GWAR a little too seriously were always a bit "off".Never caught onto them in any way, but I worked with a guy in high school (circa '89-90) who was totally into them - we were essentially parking lot attendants at a wedding chapel, and he was a few years older than me and out of high school. I think the vast majority of the folks at their shows were there to appreciate the guilty pleasure that is a GWAR show. The whole thing was just a shining example of how over the top you can possibly go. chopping off the presdients head and having blood spurt out all over the crowd... or have an 8' penis run out onto the stage and shoot gallons of white syrupy stuff all over the crowd. The "we're from outer space" routine. It was all beautiful in it's absurdity.
I hung out with Dave when GWAR would play in SF. Great guy. This sucks. RIPDave Brockie, founder and lead singer of outlandish metal band Gwar, died Sunday at the age of 50. The news was first reported by Richmond outlet Style Weekly and confirmed by the band's manager Jack Flanagan.
"It is with a saddened heart, that I confirm my dear friend Dave Brockie, artist, musician, and lead singer of GWAR passed away at approximately 6:50 p.m. EST Sunday, March 23, 2014," Flanagan said. "His body was found Sunday by his bandmate at his home in Richmond, VA. Richmond authorities have confirmed his death and next of kin has been notified. A full autopsy will be performed. My main focus right now is to look after my bandmates and his family. More information regarding his death shall be released as the details are confirmed."
Police were called to the singer's Richmond home Sunday night after responding to a call by Brockie's roommate. Brockie had already died by the time police arrived. Foul play is not suspected at this time, but a cause of death has yet to be determined.
They were a satire band mostly, but clever I wouldn't call em talented musiciansi only heard them from Beavis and Butthead clips, but for those who liked their music were they considered talented musically or more of a sideshow?
