Kraft: 'That's lunacy'

Another NFL owner has criticized the Vikings for starting the infamous "poison pill" battle with Seattle. New England owner Robert Kraft told the Boston Globe that guard Steve Hutchinson's $49 million offer sheet was "very unfortunate."

"We gave the union something not on the negotiating table," Kraft said. "An ownership group gave it away. First, you don't give out a $49 million contract to a guard. That's lunacy. To allow legal staffs to come up with things they think are creative to circumvent our [free agency] system is not good."
I understand what Kraft is saying and what he is saying I agree 100% about. What is not mentioned is that Bryzinski was very open with the NFL Ownership group about this potential loop-hole and the NFL owners never addressed it.

I'm confused why this is silly. He admits the owners caused this and isn't pretending they didn't.

It reads to me Kraft is targeting a single franchise for exploiting the loop-hole, when it was the same franchise that brought the loop-hole to the attention of the other owners a little over a year ago.

Since the Hutchinson contract set the precedent and opened pandora's box it makes sense to point out that specific contract. He's making a point about a loophole that could undermine how the NFL conducts business and to talk about this situation without using that contract as an example would make no sense at all. He would be making this point regrdless of which team used this "poison pill" loophole.

kraft isn't "silly"...the loophole is. and imo so is the arbitrator who allowed it to go through

hopefully it gets closed before the problems become greater with it

I don't disagree with the point he is making. What I don't like is he is seems to be trying to point the finger at the Vikings:Here are his quotes.

But what actually happen is the Vikings pointed out this loophole a year ago and nothing was made of it; meaning all transition tagged players could be at risk. Addition speculation now follows....

I suspect the Vikings then went into the 'screw or be screwed' mentality knowing Bryant McKinnie could get a transitional tag from the Vikings next season. Given that the Vikings already disclosed how to exploit the lopphole to the other organizations, they put themselves at risk by doing nothing. Exploiting the deal with Hutchinson was probably the only way the Vikings felt they could ensure they did not get screwed next season with Bryant McKinnie.

Fine. They pointed out a year ago and the other owners didn't do anything about. But that being said, he is pointing out that the Viking were the first to use said loop hole. And that is not making silly statements. This thread is more of a silly statement than stating the facts of the matter.

Move on.

Possibly, I won't argue with you about the spirit of my post. But one cannot possibly hold the Vikings accountable when a case can be made they were only trying to protect themselves.Last time the Vikings trusted the league they got screwed in the NFL draft.

I think they typically do a good job at screwing themselves.
