projected at 70 catches 950 yds and 8tds.... ended up with 14 catches 207yds and 2 tds...... what the heck happened to him this year?

Do you think there is any going up for him or is he all but out of the NFL? Trying to decide if he is worth a roster spot in a 25 man dynasty league

People have been waiting for his breakout season for about half a decade. It ain't coming.

1) He's not that good, particularly for a 1st round pick2) With a lesser QB this season
Malcolm Floyd and Danario seemed to do okay with Rivers -- IMO it's all on Meachem, he's just not a good WR.
Agree 100%Brees is just better enough to make Meachem a big tease this season.A lot of experts fell for him.

As did a lot of folks around here, but we all have a list of guys that look the part to us and fall far short (I certainly do anyway).

I'm still waiting for Devin Thomas to make his triumphant return to the league! As for Meachem, I remember a spirited debate on who the WR to own was between he and Floyd before the season started. Floyd won out handily, but it turns out Alexander probably helped more fantasy owners than anyone else on that team this year.

Agree 100%

Brees is just better enough to make Meachem a big tease this season.

I ain't no expert, but I certainly fell for him....Drew Brees... you dirty dirty man... making all your mediocre WRs look decent.

curse meachem's catch to target ratio and yard per catch!!!!!!

Danario Alexander completely overshadowed him. He will probably lose considerable time to Vincent Brown next year as well.

This.He can run one route: a streak. If you can't be productive at WR in New Orleans, you aren't going to be productive at WR anywhere.
He was productive in New Orleans; his production per target was excellent. And the vast majority of his targets/catches were not deep targets/catches, so he can do more than run a streak.I really don't get it. He has the physical tools and performed better in New Orleans than most give him credit for. I'm surprised he wasn't better in San Diego.

I think Meachem's lack of success is a bit more nuanced than simply a lack of talent. Specifically, Rivers' tendency over the years has been to make contested throws and allow his receivers the opportunity to make a play on the ball in the air. As a result, bigger receivers who don't necessarily create consistent separation but who attack the ball in the air well have had tremendous success with him. Meachem, on the other hand, is not a consistent hands-catcher and does not aggressively attack contested throws (his success in NO was generally the result of using his tremendous speed to run by defenders). While this may not fully explain his failure, I do think it at least contributed to it.
