Funny, I was just about to start a thread on him. I have just today looked around for info on him, but the info is sparse. He was undrafted, but just this year re-signed by the Raiders, so they obviously like him. Kiffin has had nothing to say about him, at least in the what must be very abbreviated press conference transcripts at the official Raiders' site (that has to be the most useless team site on the net). So, to summarize what I've been able to dig up on RT from several different sources (so sorry, no links) here is my take:
Thomas got his chance to start at SLB when Sam Williams went out with a neck stinger three or four weeks ago. He's been close to racking up double digit tackles the past two weeks, and by the few accounts I've read, has played well, and Williams may lose his starting spot to Thomas when he is ready to play. Thomas is already listed at the Raiders' site (or was it NFL.com?) as the starter over Sam W. Kiffin does complain about the run D a lot in his pressers, even the recent ones, so read into that what you may. I am thinking about bidding on Thomas in a dynasty league this week myself, but due to the uncertainty of his hold on the starting spot, I'm hedging on how many contract years to assign him. Kiffin is clearly not happy with the Oakland run D, so next year could see a revamping of the unit, especially the front seven.
I think Morrison and Howard are safe at the other two LB spots, and I am guessing that Thomas could be a starter next year, since it appears the run D problems are at the tackle spots and the DE spot opposite Burgess. Just my guess though. Remember, the less remembered #2 draft pick the Raiders had last year was spent on Q Moses, who got cut. I tend to think Kiffin believes the run D problems are mostly due to sub par play by the front four, but again, that's my best guess.
I haven't seen any Raider games this year, so my guesses are based on net info.... I'd love to hear from some Raiders homers on this player.
