Rocksmith - like guitar hero, but learn real guitar (1 Viewer)

I'm recently single and looking for a new hobby to compliment working out and running. I literally do not have a musical bone in my body, but have always dreamed of being able to play. This is going to be a purchase for me in February once my house sells.

My dream is to be able to play EVERLONG by the Foo Fighters, once I saw that was one of the songs I am I'm.

Honestly, with ZERO experience how long will it take me to learn a song? 6 months?

Any feedback from people with no experience prior to buying the game?
I'll let you know soon. The xbox and game just arrived today and i pick up the guitar at the end of the week.

I have a problem with the dexterity of my left hand ring finger. It's difficult for me to stretch it to do chords where there's a one fret gap between my index and ring fingers.

It will come.

It will get easier. When I first started it all seemed impossible. You'll be amazed at how your fingers get better with practice.

It's better to play for 5 minutes everyday then it is to play for 10 hours straight.

Not sure anyone will know this but I searched the innerwebs and couldnt find it

1. Can I buy a used rocksmith game and port the songs into rocksmith 2014

2. Can I borrow rocksmith from a student and port the songs

If I can do 1, I can only assume 2 is an option but figured I would ask

Can't wipe the smile off my face. Played for a couple hours this morning. Have to get some picks, just using my thumb for now. Everything set up easily and i have no noticeable lag, even using just an HDMI cable.

What system are you playing on? xbox 360?

Can anyone point me in the right direction for custom PC songs? I saw mention of it earlier in the thread but I can't figure out where to go/what to do.

Any more updates from people using this?

Seriously considering getting an xbox 360 for this. It looks like I can get the console and game for about $250 on Amazon. Just want to make sure it is worth it...

I would get the pc game and borrow a friends guitar.

I've got a guitar already. I didn't think the pc game connected to the TV? That's why I was thinking of going with xbox.

I'm enjoying it. I have not put a ton of hours in but feel like I have a grasp on playing blitzkrieg bop

I have heard you can do number 1, not positive though.

bought Rocksmith a month ago off a deal online, and got a guitar today. fun to play, but holy hell is playing guitar tough. i'm only 1.5 hours into it, so i'm guessing my expectations going into this may have been unrealistic. Great game though, looking forward to messing around until i can get a little better with this

Yeah its tough. Ive been going for about an hour every other day for 3 weeks now. Ive done ok i guess, i can play Paint it Black at 33% difficulty at 75-80% accuracy. I have actually reduced my playing recently and will just sit there and practice the 8 basic chords and do finger drills. May sound weird but i'm not sure im ready to really play yet. I think the practice will help me more than the game right now. Know you can do practice drills in the game but i like this better right now.

If you just focus on this song, not more than a few weeks if you are practicing daily IMO. It's all power chords so you'll need to get those down, but not a lot of different parts. Good cool beginner song.

My three season porch is finally warm enough to be usable after the cold winter, so I moved my PS3 out there so I could practice this daily without being bothered by the family. I've played it five days in a row, here are my observations/experience:

-Still anxious for a callous to start. I essentially have little feeling in my left index finger. It's a lot better than the constant pain, but its a weird sensation.

-I am my own worst enemy. I'm not patient enough to put in the time (yet) to focus on and learn one song at a time. I had been playing Blitzkrieg Bop, but then hit a slowdown in my development, so I jumped to a bunch of other songs. The upside is I found a song I like better that is about as easy (Living After Midnight), but the downside is I lost everything I learned on BB. As a beginer, I don't think you can be working on more than a couple of songs at a time. My hope is that I don't get sick of these songs by the time I've learned out to play them. It is awesome to play the chorus of Living After Midnight and feel like I'm actually playing it.

-I switched from lead guitar to rhythm. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. I felt like playing rhythm would be a little easier, and since the description made it sound like it was more chord focused, that would be better for my development. I'm not sure if any of the guitarheads have any input on that.

-One thing I don't get is that you will play a chord, and then there is a big space between that and your next chord. The fret won't appear, but at the bottom there fret numbers are still there (say 3...5) but the fret display doesn't show. If you don't play anything it will say "miss" like you were supposed to strike the chord again. Other times, you play the same shord multiple times in a row and it shows it everytime. Not sure if anyone can picture what I am talking about, but it is confusing.

-Lastly, does anyone else feel like they are hearing what they are playing? Could be that I have the sound coming through the TV, but it seems like the only sound I hear myself playing is the vibration from the strings themself. I don't get the feeling I can hear myself playing like you were hooked up to an amp. In rock band, if you didn't hit the notes right, you wouldn't hear your part coming out. But here, it doesn't seem like I hear any difference if I hit the notes right or not. I don't know if its because I have a rotten guitar, or just the way the game is set to show. Sometimes I feel like hooking up my amp and playing riff repeater just to hear myself actually play, but didn't know if I was doing something wrong.

I THINK it is because you have perfected that part of the song so they dont feel like they need to keep putting the reminder there for you. When you are ready to get 100%, they take all the visual cues away and expect you to play it from memory

Of course, this could be completely wrong

My guitar does the same thing. Its a little better if i crank up the volume and bass on the surround sound, sounds more like an amp and not like your just plucking strings on the guitar.

You can adjust the volume levels for the track and your guitar in the game settings. Though, the track volume doesn't seem very consistent from song to song.

Ouch, that hurts. I feel I'm a long way from memorizing any part of any song.

Dippa/FP, thanks for the sound feedback (pun intended). I'll play around with the settings.

Here's my recent update; haven't been playing every day, but 3-4 days a week for the last couple of weeks. I play for 30-45 minutes at a sitting. I turn it on, do the next lowest lesson I haven't completed yet, then go into "learn a song." I'm currently only playing "Living After Midnight" and not doing any other songs. Also, I have decided to go the rhythm guitar route since I don't think I'll be able to shred any solos for a long time. Anyway, from there I do one of the three recomendations, and then just play the song 3-4 times through. I'm up to 62% complete or something. Most of the time, I feel like I am actually playing the guitar which is cool, and really, all I was hoping for. I actually brought my cheap little amp down and hooked it up so I could play along and really hear how I was sounding. My guitar and amp suxor though, so it sounded pretty lame. I haven't done that.

The chorus part for Living After Midnight it fun to play.

I am finally getting a callus on my index finger, but not on the other fingers yet. I think I play far to much with the index even when it is the wrong finger. I have to break that habit to get to the next level I'm sure.
