Roddy White's targets to decrease...by HIS request!? (1 Viewer)

Shutout

Footballguy
Roddy White reiterated that his targets will likely decrease as Julio Jones and Jacquizz Rodgers take on bigger roles this season.

White has finished first or second in the NFL in targets in each of the past three seasons. "I told (the coaches) earlier in the season that I don't want to be the most targeted receiver in the NFL," White said. "We've got a lot of good playmakers, and we've got to spread the ball around." Although White remains a good bet to lead the Falcons in targets, Rotoworld projects his fantasy production to drop off to the 10-15 range at wide receiver. Jones is the receiver to own in Atlanta. ROTO

I'm sure he didn't check with his fantasy owners on this one.

Still a top 10-12 guy?

Calm down.. this is the player talking here... Theres enough balls to go around and having Jones at this point is GOOD for Roddy White. He'll get his, heck, if he doesn't drop the ball as much he could probably make it up right there. The word is they're going to throw more this year so that bodes well. Feel good about Roddy, at least for a couple more years until the #'s or eyes tell us different.

Sounds like Roddy has really matured and realizes that the Falcons can go somewhere with the abundance of weapons they have. He's already made Pro Bowls and led the league in receiving - maybe he's got his sights set on a Super Bowl run. What a fiend.

He also said this last year.
Did he? I didn't know.Just don't see many players openly asking for less work but at the same time, there is emerging talent on the team and he is getting older and maybe, just maybe, he's one of these rare players that kind of puts a premium on a Super Bowl shot over individual accolades.

Besides, he WANTS defenses to think they're going to use the other guys more - then he won't be doubled as often. Less targets, but same number of receptions and more YAC...OH YEAH!!!

His targets were going to go down anyway, since (as we saw down the stretch last year) he's no longer the best receiver on the team. Since Julio is more of a downfield threat than a possession guy, Roddy will still be the MORE targeted of the two. But if Julio's looks this year don't go up by at least a third or so, it would be very surprising.

He's hoping he falls to the fourth round in his fantasy league. If you can't find value, make it!
LOL! Good one. So under your conspiracy theory, would Roddy draft Matt ryan as his starting FF QB at QB8?

As I understand it Roddy is drafting at 1.05 in a 12-team league and will probably pick more of sure thing like Brady. He can always find upside plays in the later rounds.

He wants a ring, and he may not be thinking this way but less targets mean less hits he takes and maybe a little longer career and an extra pay day.
