Roethlisberger Lateral? (1 Viewer)

As a Roethlisberger owner that needs the points, I can really use a stat correction with his "lateral" to Mendenhall changed to a forward pass.

From watching the clips and playing it in slow motion, it seems like Roethlisberger turns to his right and releases the ball just behind the 21-yard line. Through the power of slow-motion, it appears that Mendenhall "catches" the ball just in front of the 21-yard line. I know this is nit-picking, but has anyone else thought about this and wondered if Elias might make an official stat change?

I know it's probably unlikely, but there's no harm in hoping...

I only saw the play once, but I do know that it was originally ruled a pass and catch and then changed to a run, so that probably makes it very unlikely to be changed again.

If they have already changed it once, I seriously doubt they care enough about our fantasy teams to look at it again. They must have had good reasonong to make a change so it seems unlikely to go back again.

Actually, IIRC, it was changed almost immediately. I was watching the game and it sure looked like a forward pass (although it was close). Then, I saw the replay and still thought it was a pass. The scoring play seems to have been removed from the NFL.com database:http://www.nfl.com/videos/pittsburgh-steelers/0ap1000000078222/RB-Mendenhall-13-yd-run-TDIt is here, however (begins at 1:00):http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012100701/2012/REG5/eagles@steelers?icampaign=GamePass_ScoreStrip_watch#menu=highlights&tab=recap

They don't care about our fantasy teams but they should care about getting it right

I think they will take a look to make sure they get it right....stats are important to the league and to the players.....incentives, season/career stats, etc.....

looked like a forward pass to me....(no horse in the race)

They don't care about your fantasy team, but you can bet Roethlisberger and his agent care about whether or not it's a TD. If it's obvious one way or another they'll get it right.

Looks like a pass to me, by about a half yard. I think it will be changed,

I don't have roethlisberger or mendenhall, by the way.

It's Karma.

This makes up for the gift touchdown pass Roethlisberger got a couple of weeks ago when Antonio Brown got tackled and fumbled inside the 1 yard line but was able to recover it in the end zone for a touchdown. Without the fumble it's not a touchdown pass so why should it be with the fumble?

Without the fumble, Brown falls into the endzone with the ball and it would have still been a touchdown.

I don't know that it was ever "ruled" a pass. The announcers called it a pass, but when they came back from the post-TD commerical they announced that it was officially ruled a lateral.

Full disclosure: I own Big Ben but didnt play him last week.

Pretty clearly looks like a lateral to me. Coming out of Ben's hand the ball is not going forward which makes it a lateral or backward pass.

Probably won't be overturned, but I think the ball is at the 21 1/2 when it leaves his hand and is at the 21 when it is caught.

If you look at it frame by frame, you'll see Ben's release point was about the 21 1/2 yard line and the ball had already crossed the 21 before it even got to Mendy. Clearly a pass. And for full disclosure I'm neither a Steeler fan or a Roethlisberger owner.

I don't own either, actually went up against Ben this week, that was clearly a forward pass. Take it frame by frame, the ball is clearly moving forward after he releases it.

How many people play in leagues where a scoring change will be applied later in the week?

Do you wait to run waivers until after the scoring is final on Thursday?

Just saw this posted. Did anyone lose or win cause of this change? WOuld be curious to hear those stories.

The Steelers TD vs. The Eagles has been changed from a run by Mendenhall to a TD pass for Roethlisberger to Mendenhall.

Not to hijack the Roeth stat change...........but if you want a quick story regarding a stat change from last week.........A guy in my league won both of his games by .5 points (We play double-headers every week). He did that because Tampa kicked the late field goal against Washington, and then Griffin racks up a few extra points during the last drive. He had Griffin AND Tampa's defense going. With the stat change last week from a Tampa sack to a Griffin rush for -7 yards, that cost the owner 2 points and he now lost both of those games. A HUGE swing in the standings. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

I went from a win to a loss at noon over some other play and now back to a win on this. wow!

I think Nate Washington had an adjustment that would have given me the loss before this change. Crazy.

I won by 3.2 points over the Roethisberger owner in one league so this is going to reverse that win. ESPN has an article about it on their site but it hasn't been reflected on the league scores or standings yet. Anyone know when they go through for ESPN?

I hate these late stat changes
They're not "late stat changes". They're the official stats. What some intern sees through binoculars in the press box as the game is happening live shouldn't be the definitive record of the stats. Waiting for a professional to go over everything is appropriate. You just hate that it isn't instantaneous.

They are late in the sense that all other stats are instant and there are a select few that change each week. Regardless of the reasoning for it (which is correct, obviously), I still dislike it as a fantasy owner. It's just so late to have a change affect the outcome.
