I have no choice (Mathews owner; thin @ RB). Seattle run D isn't bad, and they play much better at home overall:

If someone else had snagged him and was playing him, your opponent for example, would you still expect him to get almost a hundred yards and a TD?

Pretty close to what I was thinking. 70-80 total yards and likely a TD. Rivers will move the ball and he will get a chance to score.

more like 40 and 2 tds but close to the same total points...However, tds are less of a guarentee than yards so that's a good thing if you are playing him.

I believe the rest of my team can carry me with their match ups so all I'm looking for is a around a 10 point performance in my league. 3-4 receptions, 60-90 yds rushing and .6-.7 TD. If he can get lucky with two goal line situations then he could grab two scores, but that would just be gravy.

In my money league we have restricted roster at the offenive positions. Can only carry 2QB's,4RB's,4WR's,2TE's,2PK's,2DEF. Works pretty good when you need a waiver pickup as decent players are still available. 10 team league. Had tp put Grant on IR., So I picked up Tolbert this week. We start 2 RB's. My other backs are MBIII(not doing squat), Jahvid Best(Definitely 1 of my starters), and Ronnie Brown. Brown's been ok but I'm thinking of starting Tolbert as I feel he should at least get 1 score from in close.Yardage would be a bonus as he's a big boy. Think he goes about 243lbs. Anybody think he could be like Brandon Jacobs early in his career when he ran over people and scored pretty good? I think he could pump out a few scores and some average yardage until Matthews is healthy. Even then he should be able to vulture a lot of goalline scores ala Willis McGahee. I think he could go for 60-75 yards and at least one score this weekend.
Week 5 last year Brown went 21 carries,74 yards and 2 td's against the Jets. Still think he might have a tough go against the Jets as they're ranked 3rd against the run. Seattle is ranked 5th against the run. I think I'd feel better rolling with Tolbert against the Seahawks. Even if he doesn't get much yardage I feel confident he'll get at least one score. That's where it could be a benefit starting him. If the Chargers get down inside the red zone a few times Tolbert's number should be called often giving him several chances at scoring. I'd say his odds were good for scoring more than 1 td. Can't say the same for Brown so I'm gonna take the gamble and start Tolbert.

Mike Tolbert intrigues me enough that I spent a good amount of FA cash on him this week in 2 leagues. Looking at him, in LIMITED(very limited) time, the guy has done a pretty good job. I ill admit I didn't know much about him so I started to do a little digging.

The above shows that he is pretty reliable catching the ball out of the backfield(even as an RB). There is some more video from last years game highlights where he caught the ball well out of the FB position, and one even went for a 60 yard tuddy after a huge Vjax block.
Trying to figure out how this guys size and skill set is ANY different than Mike Turners. Any difference between the two other than opportunity? Size and speed looks pretty close and I would say he is a better pass catching back than Turner.

He is in the same exact situation Turner was in 4 years ago, and while Matthews is most likely the Chargers back of the future, I think you gotta keep a close eye on Tolbert for dynasty purposes. Really hoping he makes the most out of this opportunity.

I don't put much stock in stuff like the above. SF looks awful, and who knows about Denver? I just don't see how SF has looked that awful running the ball relative to how they did against the Seahawks. The Seahawks and Bears are going to be the two surprise run defenses to avoid this year. I think Tolbert is obviously still a good start for the simple reason his box score could easily be 17 carries 45 yards, 4 catches 30 yards and 2 tds.

I am seeing 4.51 for Turner as opposed to 4.68 for Tolbert. Nothing really jaw dropping there.

Turner probably can't run a 4.5 anymore so saying Turner is MUCH faster is definitely an overstatement even though he is indeed faster. Tolbert probably also has 10 pounds on Turner but speed and size obviously don't paint the whole picture of a running back's skill set.

Tolbert is also an excellent receiver, that part of his game is being vastly underrated by a lot of people.

Same situation I have. I also have Stewart. I'm starting Tolbert. History has told me that he'll either duplicate last week or be a total bust. I'd rather role the dice with him until CAR gets back on track. Cinn. will be loading up against the run to force a new rookie QB to beat them with one weapon, S Smith.

Matchup-wise that seems illogicalThe Seahawks have allowed 2 yards per carry while the Vikings have allowed 3.7. I'm starting Tolbert over Charles, Hightower, and Brandon Jackson.
I'm expecting him to get better numbers than them. What those numbers are, I don't know.
I just hope that the Chargers are inside the 5 yard line alot tomorrow since I also have Gates.

Add another one to the group starting Tolbert over Charles. But it's not as easy a decision for me. I think the SEA run D is for real and suspect the Chargers are gonna have to move the ball through the air. I do like their chances there though and think Tolbert should have the opportunity to get a score or 2 on short TDs.But you hate benching a guy like Charles b/c one run or catch can make his day. In the end though, I think Tolbert is the percentage play. I wish death on no one but Haley needs a brain transplant.

I'm serious. I think he's gonna have a big game, stars are lined up for him to have a career game. He'll probably settle back into obscurity soon, but I do feel that 150 yards from scrimmage and 2 TDs (maybe 3, as I predicated) reflects his performance this week a lot better than the lowball predictions throughout this thread.

Let's hope so but there's a decent chance Mathews plays this week. I went with my gut and played Charles over Tolbert at the last minute in my flex spot.Tolbert did about what I expected but didnt get the scoring chances. SEA run D is better than people give them credit for. This week I could really use Tolbert with Charles on bye and potential injury to Pierre.I think the matchup of Arizona at home is much more favorable. Will be very interested to see if Mathews practices at all the next few days.
