*** ROMO THREAD *** (1 Viewer)

From Extremeskins

BY: JRABI watched the Monday night game. That Dallas team lacked life until Romo came in. They were dead in the water. Yes, Bledsoe made the occasional throw that was good, but overall the Giants defenders could just rush to a point about 7 yards behind the center and know that the QB would be sitting there, just patting the ball. Throw in poor blocking and you have a recipe for disaster. If the viewers and fans in the stadium could see that, the other 52 players could see that as well. They knew they were going nowhere fast with Bledsoe and so the team was playing disheartened. When Romo went in, even after the INT on his first play, you could see that the team was re-invigorated. They were playing more with a purpose on both sides of the ball, and had Romo been able to limit his mistakes, they would've won that game. The defense stiffened and the offense started rolling. Had TO not dropped that fourth down pass and the Cowboys had converted there, the whole outcome might have been different. The Cowboys were clearly a better team with Romo in there than with Bledsoe. Each time they had the ball, they moved down the field. The Giants defense didn't make them punt, I don't think one time. It was either a TD or an INT. Romo drove them to two TD's --both were passes-- and also ran it in for a two point conversion. He never failed to move the ball... he simply stopped himself with mistakes. If Romo would've had the benefit of practicing with the starting unit all week preparing for the Giants and had he used just a smidgen more discretion, Dallas might very well have walked out with a victory Monday night. A victory that Romo would've been responsible for in large part.If you didn't watch the game you won't get what I'm talking about. The team just played better and with more urgency for Romo. They responded to him and you could tell they beleived in him and his ability as a QB. The TE's were able to get out in patterns instead of staying in to block for a statue. Once he cuts down on those mistakes... he's going to make Dallas much, much, MUCH better than they were with Bledsoe. Mark my words. The rest of the team saw a winner who made some mistakes that everyone makes the first time they ever play in the NFL. They saw a winner that they know can take them where they want to go. They saw a winner instead of a guy who has proven over the last decade or so that he just can't get it done. They know Bledsoe will never take them where they want to go and you could tell that they knew it. There was just something missing with Bledsoe that they regained when Romo came in.I really hated to see the change because I think Dallas will be light years better with Romo. Even with his mistakes, he'll move that offense up and down the field. It made me upset to know that we've seen the last of Bledsoe, because I think he was the main thing holding them back.Watching Romo come in and seeing how the team responded to him also made me feel... jealous.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I'm not kidding, I could not stop laughing at that.

The Cowboys were 5 down from taking the division lead when Bledsoe is benched. Parcells just threw away the season and will likely be done after this. It'll go down as one of his worst coaching moves.
It was a culmination of bad plays from Bledsoe. The only bad move was not doing this earlier.WITH Bledsoe, the Cowboys were a borderline playoff team. YIPEE, get a wildcard and lose in the first round!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, not good enough for me (and most Cowboy fans). WITH Romo, either he will calm down and limit the types of mistakes he made Monday and the Cowboys have a real chance to go deeper into the playoffs OR we learn he is not going to be the starting QB for this team and the position will be addressed in the offseason.Mistakes aside, Romo threw the ball well and was very adept at avoiding the rush. Not fully excusing his mistakes, but he was thrown into the 2nd half of a game. Lets see what happens with a week of getting all the 1st team reps, heading into a game knowing he is the starter, and a week of Parcells pounding it into his head that his no. 1, 2, and 3 jobs are to PROTECT THE BALL, PROTECT THE BALL, AND PROTECT THE BALL!!!! Cheers :banned:

12:05 AM CDT on Thursday, October 26, 2006By BARRY HORN / The Dallas Morning News Sports media columnist Barry Horn chatted about the Cowboys quarterback change with the lead NFL analysts at Fox, CBS and NBC on Wednesday. His conversation with Fox's Troy Aikman focused on Tony Romo's skills as a quarterback. With CBS' Phil Simms, who played for Bill Parcells with the Giants, the discussion centered on the coach's philosophy regarding quarterbacks. NBC's John Madden, a Hall of Fame coach with the Raiders, recalled making a similar mid-season quarterback switch. Troy Aikman "I think Tony Romo will play well. He'll have a good career. It will help him this week to take all the snaps in practice. You can't underestimate the importance of that. "I like the energy he plays with. He has charisma. He seems to be a leader. Does he have a great arm? No. But he certainly throws the ball well enough to be successful in this league. "He brings escapability and mobility in the pocket. What the Cowboys gain there will be balanced by a guy who hasn't played. ... For some reason, lacking mobility has become a four-letter word. The quarterback's job is to throw the ball. Peyton Manning doesn't move real well. I don't think anyone in Indianapolis would suggest benching him. "Some people compare Romo to Brett Favre. I see Romo playing with the same type of energy as Brett, but, for now, I'd end the comparisons there. You have to rein in his recklessness. But then, it was Favre's recklessness that made him a success." Phil Simms "I don't know Tony Romo. I've never seen him play. But Coach Parcells is not a guy who makes these decisions quickly. He has thought about this for a long time ... "When I played for Bill Parcells, he called me in one time during the off-season and said, 'Simms, I don't care if you do nothing, but I want you to show up here every day and at least pretend to be working out. Then I want you to walk through the locker room carrying a big stack of film and go into the film room. I don't care if you spend the next four hours sleeping in there. When you walk out, you will have created a perception and set a tone.' "Coach Parcells knows that if you are trying to shake up a team, quarterback is the one position that can give it a different personality. He is hoping for a shot of energy from Romo that will change the style of performance of the whole team. "He knows this one move can produce a different team. The way a quarterback talks in the huddle, the way he walks through the locker room is vital in the development of a team." John Madden "I know what Bill Parcells is going through. I had Daryle Lamonica as my quarterback and I switched to Kenny Stabler after the start of the season. Like Bill, I was giving up experience and arm strength for mobility. "Daryle had no mobility and was hanging on to the ball too long. Snake could move the ball. It wasn't something I did on the spur of the moment. It is a tough decision giving up the known for the unknown. It worked out well for us, but it wasn't something I was sure of. "When Bill made the decision on Monday night, I said he has to stick with it now. He couldn't say after the game, 'I was kidding. We're going back to Drew Bledsoe now.' I knew Romo was his new quarterback. "I've always liked Drew Bledsoe, but if you go with a guy like him, you better have a running game and you better be able to protect him. The focus on quarterback has camouflaged some other Cowboys problems. There are a lot of moving parts there that need to be examined."

actually the cowboys are good on first down and every down. it's the big plays on first down. which aren't setting them up for long bombs on 2nd/3rd, those plays are tds.

i disagree with watkins being the only goat though, because part of it is pressure.
Good point. I didn't realize that all of those plays happened on first down. I don't have game film in front of me, but it makes me suspect that Watkins has a tendency to bite pretty hard on play fakes.
FWIW the team is probably going back to Davis this week.

They'd be crazy not to. Obviously nobody on the Dallas staff has a warm, fuzzy feeling about Marcus Coleman at this point, but eventually they're going to need somebody back there who knows what pass coverage is. The Texans used him there and I wonder if he'll ever get a shot at it in Dallas. This defense's biggest problem for a season and a half has been the giant, gaping void at FS. Fix that and the big plays will start to go away.
