Ronnie Brown (1 Viewer)

Wasn't very good last year. Looked terrible last night. He's in a good situation this year I'll give him that. On a team that's on the rise, a coach that is committed to the run, some good other weapons in the passing game to keep defenses honest. But lets face it, even if you're a RB in the best possible situation, if you don't have the talent you just don't have the talent. Period. I'm gonna laugh at the guy in my leagues who picks him 5, 6, 7, or 8 expecting to build a championship fantasy team around him
He'll be fine. Other top RBs have had bad preseasons too. Are they going to be busts? LT hasn't even played. Will he be a bust?He as up against a staunch Carolina run defense. Relax...
:goodposting: cadillac williams barely got any playing time last year in preseason..his season went fine..sometimes coaches are just being careful with RBs, the fact that the fish don't have a viable #2 RB if Brown gets hurt, is probably more of a reason he hasn't carried too often in preseason, they want/need him fresh and healthy for opening day..

So what is Ronnie Brown? Ive never seen a player with reviews so all over the board. From what I'm getting from all this he's like Rudi Johnson with hands right? Or not as good of a goal line back? So like Uhhh.

From what I saw from the game highlights, he had problems running. But the guy can BARREL. Which makes me think he will get TD's and yards pounding. Which has made a lot of RB succesful. That's worst case scenario right? That he's just a pounder? I mean Brandon Jacobs got 7 TD in NY last year and all he did was pound it in. Now Jacobs is HUGE. But Browns big enough and can obviously carry defenders on his back. So is he like a Jim Brown style runner? Not comparing his possible career success to Brown, but I mean, is he that type of runner?

Because honestly, I cant see the worst case scenerio for this guy being very low.

Now add on top of that his hands. The guys great in a PPR league hands down.

He can throw? well.. I doubt they will use it that often. But maybe get some extra points 3 times a year from his passing. Nice little bonus but nothing to write home about.

So really. What is he? What kind of back? I know its all projection. But what can we agree on?

I have a draft coming up and all this talk confuses me. Im drafting late first, so Brown will be on my board, and its a Dynasty league, so I dont want to make a bad choice that will ruin my team for years to come. He seems like a safe pick to me. But there's a lot of hate out there. So whats the deal?

I actually thought that he ran hard and looked extremely strong - more than once he was dragging two and three guys for yards. The o-line was getting killed by the CAR front.
Granted, the Panthers have one of the best DL in the league, but the lackluster OL play is a cause for concern. Is it an indication of the fins year, or just another sign that Carolina should win the division? My thinking is this is an average OL, dominated by a great DL.
Actually, John Clayton has an ESPN article up on their website today, about this very thing. He says more than any other year he's been watching football and attending training camps, the defenses he's seen are using more stunts and blitzing quite a bit more than they used to..he says it's no longer a 3rd and long situation that teams are blitzing on, what he's seeing in preseason is blitzing on first down, second down, etc..as he says, its a copycat league, and people are watching what some of the other teams are doing: SD throttled Indy last year in regular season, Pitt did it to them in the playoffs..

Watching the giants/chiefs game last week, you could definitely see a concerted effort of the giants coaching staff to have as many linemen in the chiefs backfield as they can get, by constantly blitzing the heck out of the Kc offense..it worked..it might be that this is a new trend in the NFL, constant blitzing by LB's running stunts to fill gaps at the line and stop the run...

if true, I guess this is going to be the year of the TE then, right? I mean, who is going to cover Gates if everyone is rushing the QB?

I suppose every QB will see a rise in production, then, if teams can't run the ball effectively?

He's good, but I'm still amazed when people are ranking him above Cadillac.
i'm amazed that cadillac supporters/owners fail to acknowledge the existence of pittman and alstott
Those guys were there last year. Go check out Cadillac's per-game numbers (and, no, I'm not in the business of predicting injuries).
No goalline carries last season for Caddy, not one. Alstott had 8 (7TDs).Caddy averaged 4.1 yards per reception on 20 catches, Pittman averaged 8.3 ypr on 36.These situations have not changed.

Don't take this the wrong way, but the chances of everyone rushing Rivers and letting Gates run free is about the same as Tennessee winning the Super Bowl this year.

This thread is a fishing trip if the original poster only has one post and that is the initial post. No meat in this thread at all and the original poster was simply reading stats and not watching any game.

I have the 6th pick in my "re-draft" tomorrow. I believe that Portis, Jackson, Johnson, and Brown will all be there when I pick. Johnson is the safe pick, but is there anyone of the others that will definitely outperform Johnson?

I think McGahee will. I also think Thomas Jones will if he gets the majority of carrys in CHI. But I suppose thats a big if.

Dude... I'm looking for a guy I can pick at the 6th position. McGahee and Jones don't exactly fit the bill.

Oh sorry. Thats true. All though I still say Mcgahee outscores at least 1 of them. But um there's not really much more unless you like Edge or Jordan enough this year. Im not big on either.

I think SJ is your best pick there. If its not PPR. Rudi, based on being a safe choice, is probably the best choice.

I thought he could have bounced the 4th down GL carry outside. I was hoping to see more from him, I wanted to be impressed, and I wasn't. That said, I draft 14th tomorrow and if he's there, I'm taking him.

Coming from a Raven's fan, all I know is that having Bennie Anderson as your right guard = trouble. He sucked on Buff last year and he sucked on the Raven's for four years before that. He's enough to bump Ronnie down a bit. If you watched the game, did you see him get owned all night long? Look for a lot of that this year. Not hatin' on Ronnie, just an FYI

he won't be. You're looking at Dunn, FWP, or McGahee. Maybe you'll get lucky and caddy will slide. Gothim at the 12 on Monday

No: i dont think he has learned to be a great inside runner but the guy is simply inexperienced playing behind a line that has to gel like last year.Being a Ronnie owner, just get to the regular season games with he and C-Pep in full health -- and I'll happily take my chances with him in this offense. .
