If Helu continues to average 4.9 every time he has 10+ carries, he isn't budging from the line-up.
They were pretty much implementing him into each game plan from the onset, but he needed time to get fully up to speed.

Hightower is better at pass blocking than Helu. I would expect to see Helu involved a little bit less in the upcoming games due to Williams being suspended. If Helu works on his pass blocking and The Redskins work on the offensive line a bit the offseason I would expect Helu to be a great bargain in next year's FF drafts.

there are loads of Helu haters on this board so you aren't really going to get a fair response. The guy does all the right things on/off the field. He's only going to get better. I'd say he's likely to be that guy and with the ability he's shown can take the job & run with it. I just don't see the Skins bringing in anyone better.
Hightower isn't even in the conversation. He'll be less than a year removed from a torn ACL and his contract is up. He didn't have all that great of speed to begin with.

Right now, I wouldn't place a bet on the situation.
This 100%. It should be Helu. He's certainly earned the right to start next year. Hightower has always been an average NFL RB.....never a special talent. But we think too logically here in the Shark Pool. The shark move is to avoid WAS running game all together. No way that I am going to invest a 5th round pick on a RB that may not be even starting come midseason.

The shark move is not to avoid the WAS running game. The shark move is always to pick up undervalued players, which may be Helu's situation next year. The shark move this year was certainly to pick up Helu, since he cost you nothing and he has produced like gangbusters down the stretch. The REALLY shark move was to pick up both Hightower and Helu, play Hightower in the early seasons when he produced, and drop him when he got injured, then use Helu in the fantasy playoffs. I'm sure not everyone managed to time that perfectly, but that was the right call this year and it didnt cost you much in the draft. A real shark already has Helu on his team in a keeper league for a low draft pick.I'll re-evaluate everything in the offseason, but writing things off right now is not a shark move. It's a guppy move because it's way too early to tell. And the payoff for a Shanahan RB can be tremendous.

If Hightower is back it's only because there's no market for a mediocre RB coming off ACL and Shanny throws him a 1 yr deal.

Helu has clearly established himself as the "leader in the clubhouse" for next year's starting duties....but that's far from a secure position.
However, I don't expect Hightower to overtake Helu as the starter.

I don't think there will ever be a true week 1 to week 17 starter under Shanahan...ever, regardless of player performances. These guys under Shanny are probably working themselves so hard to get his favor that they eventually hurt themselves and miss games. Certainly seems to have been the norm at RB for years, from Denver to Wash.
I'm not going to claim I know what the shark move is here, but I'd personally rather use my picks on players who have better chances at becoming starters, even if it takes them a couple of years. One pick on a Shanny RB always requires 3 or more forced moves later on in the attempt to keep up with the changes. And even if you get it right, its only temporary anyway. No thanks.

My $ is on Helu getting the gig, rushing for over 1200 yards, then getting traded to the Browns for Joe Haden LMAO.
But for real, I think Helu gets the gig and does very well next year. I don't see Wash landing any good vet QB's so they will draft again. In PPR Helu should be gold as a check-down machine again, but in a more full-time role.

It would be a big mistake to not give Helu a chance to be the feature back IMO. We are talking about the Redskins though.
Due to the needs at Oline, QB, Secondary and WR I would be very surprised to see them draft a RB in the upcoming draft. Between Torain, Helu, Royster and Hightower should be the RB group next year.

ok..and who traded for him? who gushed about him? he quickly displaced the perceived starter in Torrain. I'm not in love with Hightower at all but I've seen Shanny do it too many times over a decade to ignore it.
