Roy Williams done for the year (1 Viewer)

Several week PCL sprain per Marinelli. Wouldn't formally say "out for the year", but he basically said its looking that way. No link, just listened on the radio.

Well, that's just ####### dandy. They FINALLY looked committed to getting him involved, as well. Detroit is falling apart at the seams. This team could completely implode in these final weeks.

Roy Williams could miss rest of the season

Roy Williams suffered a sprained right knee against the Minnesota Vikings and head coach Rod Marinelli said he could miss "several'' weeks. It's possible that Williams, who sprained his PCL, could miss the rest of the regular season. Mike Furrey would likely start in Williams' place, but Marinelli would not confirm that.

  Have him 2 leagues, playoffs in both, and I was hoping he's start to explode in the last few weeks. UGH...I have Furrey in one league, I suspect he'll be a good play going forward. I guess there's the argument that he's been relatively quiet all year, but still...you're not going to find Roy's kind of production potential on the WW. Jeeeez....this sucks.

They will be DESTROYED by the Cowboys this week. It's gonna get ugly. I think Martz is a lame duck and the players know it. The defense played well enough to keep them in the Giants/Cardinals game.

Could?We're mid-implosion.

McDonald or Furrey with better stats here on out?
I'm worried about McDonald's production. He was always open because he was being covered by a safety, OLB or a teams #4 CB. I can promise you he will see more attention. I think Furrey is the one you want.

I really needed him for a championship push. Might grab Furrey before the news breaks.
When asked if Furrey would step into the starter role, he initially said yes, then kind of corrected himself and said something like "those are the 3 WR's we're going with" (meaning CJ, Furrey, Mcdonald).I would initially think Furrey is the one to grab (based on opportunity and possible availability). However, Marinelli definitely sounds like he will start benching players who aren't finishing plays. I always thought Furrey was one of those "full effort" guys, but I recently saw a quote (I think from Tom Kowalski) saying that he has been passed on the depth chart by Shaun McDonald (not sure if true, but leads me to believe he isn't doing something right). Also, he had that one play in the game where he was barely touched and put the ball on the turf...the play was challenged and overturned, but it was brought up in the PC as on of those plays that you should keep going until the whistles are blown.

So, while I think Furrey gets a nice upgrade here because of the opportunity, I'm not sure if he isn't in the doghouse.

Interesting take on Furrey. I had not seen or read anything about that. I'm sure it must be hard on the guy to go from leading the NFC in receptions to being the 4th on the team in targets

Yes, I love the way he states "the rest of the regular season." That's all you're getting.

But don't think I'm gloating, since I have Roy on all 3 of my teams and all of them are or will be in the playoffs.

Give Calvin the damn ball.....he's the tall, athletically gifted one. Throw it up, let him catch it. No route to learn....not rocket science.

would it be safe to cut him now? I just picked up Roddy White hopefully Plax and Santonio can get it going. In my other league I do have Chambers Bracnh and Coles, so Im at least able to plug in some guys. Roy hasnt been all that over the last few weeks anyways but he was looking good yesterday before the injury.

Im in the same boat...I just dropped a kicker (Hanson) and picked up the Best WR out there. We should know more in 24 hours.

I just dropped Hanson for Furrey. YAHOO has ROY on the can't cut list so he's sticking around until a status change is made!!

That kills me.

I just saw that our D is 2nd worst in the league in Opp Passer Rating--I'm excited by the fact that besides Favre we haven't played one QB worth a damn yet. Romo could easily hit 500yd and 10TD if they let him play the whole game next week.

Holy Crap. I'm 11-2...and have Kitna AND RoyW. That's just fine and dandy. Dandy, I tell ya'.

I hope so, he's misusing/wasting some good talent there. As a CJ owner, I would have hoped he would be used more after his injury.

Just add him to the list of my weekly woes. Thank god for a 1st round bye.

The good news here is that with the exception of one week, Roy was not winning any games for me.

If Calvin Johnson is losing targets to Shaun McDonald in Mike Martz's offense, I am going to tend to side with Martz on this one. He has a track record of getting the most out of his passing game, and he also observes CJ and McDonald far more closely than we do.

Furry replaces Williams and Calvin and McDonald stay in the same position. Not sure how much changes but Calvin should be the best target in the end zone due to his size compared to the other two.

Haven't heard anything else about this locally, but there may be something to it. This was posted on Fanball's Newsbreakers section today:
Code:
Lions: McDonald to start Thursday 12/6, 10:03 AM CT Shaun McDonald will start in place of Roy Williams on Sunday against the Cowboys, according to the Detroit Free Press. McDonald and Calvin Johnson will start, while Mike Furrey will play a slot role. Our View: McDonald has done a nice job as a secondary receiver this season, but he has yet to prove that he can be productive in a starting role. In other words, McDonald owners shouldn't automatically assume his promotion will lead to a significant increase in fantasy points.

McDonald has been the only consistent producer for Detroit this year. He's the only guy there I would start "with confidence" (and not much at that) this week.
