The best thing that Campbell can do is what he's doing: say little other than that the situation is "awkward", keep practicing, and play his best. He's earned immense respect from the fans and his teammates for how he's handled himself. I'd bet that, right now, he's the most popular Redskin among Redskin fans. It'll be a bonus if he does well this year --- fans will be happy for him, and the cheers for him will be a form of giving the finger to the owner and front office.
The good news for Campbell is that by taking the high ground, if he emerges as a bona fide starter this year there will be immense pressure on the team to resign him to a long deal as a UFA, which should mean a lot of money to him. I agree with fatness that a lot of fan goodwill has been built up here. That will disappear fast if he has a bad year, but Campbell holds his own fate in his hands, and that's the best he can hope for anyway.

As fans, should the "respect" to Campbell really matter? Whereas I think the "Cassel is better than Cutler" argument was, at best, a 50/50 proposition, can anyone argue that Mark Sanchez or Jay Cutler or even a healthy Brett Favre wouldn't be better than Campbell? Has the guy shown himself to be anything more than decidedly average?
He was a project when he was drafted, most thought the Skins took him extremely high by at least a couple of rounds when this happened. He was the Quincy Carter for the Skins to some degree. My question Jason is this...would there be as much backlash against him if he had been drafted in the 3rd round?
