Rumour - Trade Chester Taylor for Kellen Clemons (1 Viewer)

Heard on Minnesota radio that there is some talk that the Jets may trade Kellen Clemons for Chester Taylor. The thinking is that the Vikes would then pickup Jesse Chatman to backup ADP.

Again, just a rumour, but this could really hurt Thomas Jones value.

And who backs up Favre? Ainge?Interesting Rumor though
Brett Ratliff (sp?) has played very well in pre-season. Ratliff is one of the players that i was hoping would be wavied.Edit to add that Booty and Bollinger did not play well in preseason.

Favre just seems like a one year guy. Why trade Clemons unless he just isn't that good?

Do the Jets really want to be looking at 09 with Ratliff and Ainge running the show?

Who would be backing up ADP? Maurice Hicks? With ADP's injury history? Not really sure I'm buying this, particularly with the Vikings already getting Frerotte in the offseason specifically to be the backup.

Furthermore, not really sure that the Jets would already be giving up on Clemons as the future replacement to Favre.

You would think they could do better than Clemons.
My thoughts exactly. This won't be happening. And I hope I'm not proven wrong about this.
For a team with big questions at QB, and potentially the best RB in the NFL:Young QB with NFL experience and potential for aging (30ish) RB who might get 8-10 touches a game. Not sure that is such a bad deal. The Jets were awful last year when Clemons got his shot - but they have always been very high on his abilities. He could be an upgrade to TJ - who also may have knee issues that could linger. I dont think this sounds like such a bad deal personally. But, if ADP misses time, I will take my crow medium well.

Why would the Jets want Chester Taylor? The Have Thomas Jones and Leon Wahington plus they just let Chatman go because presumably because they have a solid #3

Jesse Chatman? Ced Benson? Shaun Alexander? Rudi? There are capale guys out there.

(Wishful thinking for an ADP and Chester owner)

They figure that's what they'd be looking at until August, when Favre unretires again.

This would be a great move for all involved. Taylor is better than Thomas Jones. Taylor and Washington fit nicely with Favre.

Clemons is an upgrade over Jackson...but then who isn't?

Oh yeah, Ratliff is better than Clemens and better than you think.

they can't just stick thomas jones on the bench, can they? guy needs a shot in real games to prove whether he has lost a step or he can go for another 1000 yards. seems like it would be a bad message to do that to jones. leon washington would prob be the big loser, which is too bad since he seems like a good fit with favre, as you mentioned.

Jets don’t want to keep 4 QBs so either Clemmons, Ratliff or Ainge has to go. It wouldn’t surprise me that the Jets are trying to get something in return for a player that they might have to cut. It also wouldn't surprise me if the Vikings were looking for a 3rd QB to develop that actually has the potential to play the position. That said, I would be surprised if Chester Taylor would be player they part with.

probably not, but Ratliff has certainly looked better than Clemens during the preseason.

So who backs up Peterson after Chester leaves? Vikes look to be a in a good place to make an SB run. Not sure why a 2nd or 3rd string QB would be worth giving up your #2 RB.

Thomas Jones has been and always will be, the running back being replaced somewhere.

Orton, Croyle, Rodgers, O'Sullivan, Young, Edwards, Leinart, Russell, Boller/Smith/Flacco...those are just the starters I can think of off the top of my head...

Trade Taylor and Booty to Arizona for Leinart and Hightower. He's better than Clemons.

Leinart isn't the starter in Arizona, but he would be in MN.

lolpsif this trade goes through I smell another pms-a-gram from culpepper."dear national football league, ok, now this really hurts --- I have feelings, too, you know!!"

The Jets pushed back their "final cuts" presser from 1pm to 6pm, and area pundits suspect it's because a trade is in the works. The Jets now have only two RB's, aside from FB's.... and one too many QB prospects. This might have legs....

Cimini, NY Daily News beat writer claims that there is NO deal for Clemens in the works.... at all, on his blog.

I don't believe it. Taylor is almost 29 years old, and he won't be running behind that Minny o-line. There would have to me more in it to sweeten the deal, if Minny wants a QB.

I don't think he is an upgrade at all. If this happens it will only be because of Jackson's injury.

So I assume the Jets think Clemons isn't much better (if at all) than the other two and they want to gage trade value before the cuts?

I don't know about that...if he can't get it done throwing to one of the best WR duos of our time, I seriously doubt he could get it done with the options in the Vikes passing game

he'd be running behind richardson again, though. seems odd to me, but tannenbaum did say something about needing to get creative (paraphrasing here)when asked about keeping four quarterbacks. :blackdot:

It's CLEMENS btw.... frankly, I think the Jets do indeed have Clemens, Ratliff and Ainge very evenly ranked as prospects. We'll know more after the cuts presser at 6pm

I'm calling this rumor bunk....it doesn't make sense for either team.
I disagree, it makes a lot of sense. Both teams are highly motivated to win this year... Jets have quite likely a 1 year shot with Favre and an upgrade at RB would help a lot.Vikes are picked by many for the SB... and now have an injured QB, who was very inexperienced to begin with. This is an interesting rumor.

:goodposting: my bad. Thats what I though, but was just rolling with the Title.

I think the Jets consider Ratliff the top QB prospect on their roster behind Favre. JMO

Well, if there was a presser I can't find it.... but final cuts did NOT include any QB's.... so Favre, Clemens, Ratliff and Ainge are still with the team.

Hypothetically, does that make Gus Frerotte the potential starter - if this is potentially about/covering concerns relating to T Jackson's injury???

Much worse than they're letting on?

As a Rice owner, I'd MUCH rather have Frerotte behind center...

Clemons belongs on your list of who isn't better than Jackson

Rumors of Kellen deal greatly exaggerated

There are a lot of rumors making the rounds today, and one of them has the Jets trading backup QB Kellen Clemens to the Vkings.

Not true.

I checked into it, and I’m told there’s no chance of Clemens being dealt.__________________
