Rumour - Trade Chester Taylor for Kellen Clemons (1 Viewer)

From Randy Lange at the Jets site:

Head coach Eric Mangini is about to hold a conference call now with Jets reporters to comment on the moves.

Here is a list of the 18 players, by position, waived by the Jets:

RB — Jehuu Caulcrick

TE — Jason Pociask, A.J. Schable

WR — David Ball, Larry Brackins, Paul Raymond

OL — Jacob Bender, Stanley Daniels, Kyle DeVan, Nate Garner, Matt McChesney

DL — Thomas Johnson, Bryan Mattison, Ropati Pitoitua

LB — Blair Phillips, Brandon Renkart

DB — Rudy Burgess, James Ihedigbo, Cameron Worrell (waived/injured)

Thats all well and good. But seriously, the Jets need to bring in another Back. Probably a bigger everydown type.

Did Musa look bad in camp? I've always liked the guy and thought he would be great in the right situation.

Countdown is on. Need to get a guy in and learn the Offense in a week.

You thinking Rudi??

What's wrong with Thomas Jones? I don't see the Jets making a move for a new starting RB ...

No...just someone in the 215ish + range. I like leon, but dont think he would be a good between the tackles 20 carry type guy.Dayne maybe? although Id bet the Jets want someone with hands.

This would be a great move for all involved. Taylor is better than Thomas Jones. Taylor and Washington fit nicely with Favre.

Clemons is an upgrade over Jackson...but then who isn't?

Oh yeah, Ratliff is better than Clemens and better than you think.
Orton, Croyle, Rodgers, O'Sullivan, Young, Edwards, Leinart, Russell, Boller/Smith/Flacco...those are just the starters I can think of off the top of my head...
Clemons belongs on your list of who isn't better than Jackson
I know, I was mostly saying starters who Jackson is better than...

I think Chris Simms is available if the Vikes were really looking to add a QB.
You could take it differently. The Jets trade Clemens to the Vikes for Taylor. The Vikes then pick up a FA RB to backup AP, while the Jets add Simms to be a veteran backup for Favre while they groom Ratliffe and Eric A. for the long term position. Simms would be more than an adequate backup and has long standing ties to the area. Just a different spin.ETA: Just provided a different view, not indicating or saying this has legs. In fact, I would be very surprised if they traded Clemens.

while it might not be a trade for Chester Taylor...Keeping 4 QBs and 2 RBs indicates something is in the works.

With their O-line and their defense, the Vikings are a team that should and will run all day long on opposing teams. ADP is spectacular, but he also has a long injury history. There is no way they let Taylor go.

As a Pats fan I'm not rooting for this to happen, because I think it helps the Jets, but as a football fan, a Favre fan, and a fantasy owner, I think this would be a really good deal for everyone involved. The Jets don't owe Clemons anything, but the Favre thing did kind of pull the rug out from under him. Taylor has earned a chance to start, and after a decent season in his once chance to be a starter, he has been stuck behind a 2000 yard rusher and the ROY. The Vikings are too good not to have a quality QB. And as much as I hate the Jets, I'd like to see Favre get the best possible chance to compete in the twilight of his career. The Jets aren't quite good enough right now to compete for the division win, and the AFC may have a 10-6 team miss the playoffs - this would make them a favorite to win the conference, and might give them a crack at the division. And even as a Pats fan, I'd kind of enjoy seeing a serious rivalry here, even if it is the Jets. I say git er done

While that's possible, it doesn't strike me as unusual. Favre obviously isn't a long-term solution, and the Jets see potential in three of their young QBs. Ratliff would certainly find a home if the Jets released him, and Clemens still has solid potential. Ainge hasn't had a chance to show much in camp due to an injury and playing behind the other QBs, but the Jets saw enough out of him in college to like him. The Jets probably think all three have a chance to be good QBs as early as 2010, and any could be the starter in 2009. At RB, the Jets have two guys that they know they can count on, and they have depth at TE and WR, along with a FB they want to see the field. The Jets don't need a RB, and will get Chatman back in four weeks.

I thought Chatman was released.
Suspended four games for steroids abuse - as I linked to in my earlier post.

Jets are winning the division this year, and they are plenty good enough to do it

he is listed as being cut in the "official" thread

I just let them know in that thread. Thanks for the heads up. This Chatman thing has been confusing but he is, indeed, suspended and not listed on the official Jets cuts list.Edited to add: a quote from Newsday's blog by Eric Boland:

Mangini said Chatman had a job waiting for him when the suspension ends.

well that pretty much totally puts this thing to bed. I was still under the impression that the Jets only had 2 RBs rostered. Thanks.

I did not read this whole thread but this sounds like wishful thinking by some Jets fans. Chester Taylor is a proven quality NFL RB and Clemens seems sorta crappy to me. The Vikings would be further ahead to just go after Chris Simms who is maybe better than Clemens anyway.

I think most of the Jets fans here were the ones saying they didn't see it happening.

Huh? Jets fan here... want no part of chester Taylor. In case you had not noticed, there are a number of "proven" (more than Taylor) RB's that are FA's right now. Maybe before saying something kinda dopey, you should have read the whole thread?

Huh? Which current FA RB's would you want over CT? This guy is not a bum. He's performed well in Balt and MN. low mileage for his age. He was their guy in MN until ADP fell in their laps in the draft. Please don't say Rudi Johnson, SA, Jesse Chatman, etc.

Already have him thanks - we don't need a second. :boxing:

Clemens totally sucks and will likely lose the no.2 spot to Ratliff. NOt that it matter since this rumor is total bunk.
