Russell Wilson FBG Ranking (1 Viewer)

Am I missing something? Based on Wilson's performance last week against a not so good Cardinals team and the Cowboys handling of a pretty high powered Giants offense, how can Wilson be ranked so high this week? Thoughts?

Correction: #11 QB...but the question still applies...He's ranked ahead of Rivers vs TEN, for example.

You would intuitively think early rankings would favor veterans over rookies due to the high risk of starting unproven commodities, especially considering his most recent performance. Is FBG advocating starting Russell Wilson in a 12 team league?!

The good and the bad of have so many different fantasy football minds at Footballguys is that you're sure to find differing opinions on most players... just listened to the waiver wire show on The Audible and Bloom/Lammey recommended dropping him.

I'm not sure Wilson should be ranked in the top 10, but if you added the dropped TD pass by Edwards to Wilson's stats they aren't as bad as they appear. The Cardinals D is very good, even if the team is "not so good".

Looks like Demarco Murray is too low as wellWho is starting Russell other than 2qb leaguers?
I might.. he's a bargin buy again this week on Fanduel. As mentioned, figure in that dropped Braylon TD, and his week wasnt nearly as bad as it seemed. The Cards D# is better than people think.

No way would I be starting Wilson over Rivers.

The Murray ranking is another crazy one. According to that, I should be starting BJGE/Morris and Ridley in my 3RB/Flex positions, after the guy put up 130 yards in week 1!

Rankings are all over the board of sanity.

I would say you shouldn't share subscriber information but I rarely have found these to be helpful anyway.

Deangelo and Jennings were great calls last week. Lol.

Does no one remember these are the first set of rankings the staff puts little stock into? These change drastically by week's end.

:goodposting: Assuming this is your first year on FBG hadji - the rankings will change a lot as the week goes on and they get more polished.

I'm guessing he's low because the Seahawks D gave up 43 Yards on the ground last week. Not that Beanie and Ryan put up much of a fight, but the D looked stout.

I was just gonna say..... the cards have a bit of an underrated defense. I would never argue they are an elite Defense, but certainly better than most people give them credit for. If that offense could stay on the field for more than 6 or 7 plays that defense would have very good numbers overall.

The Cardinals have one of the best defenses in the NFL. They went 7-2 in their last nine games last year based almost entirely on the strength of their defense.

Well the Cowboys' D looked pretty awesome in what was also supposed to be a tough venue & situation last week, vs the Giants in the Meadowlands.Seattle is looking at 0-2 and the Cowboys are salivating at the thought of starting out 2-0 with two tough road games out the way, 8 of last 14 at home.I gambled on Wilson in one league, but I'm a tad worried.

Seattle would have won last week if Flynn had started. We'll just have to wait and see how long the leash will be for Wilson, and when the coach is willing to swallow his pride and start the better QB

Reached for Flynn way to early, huh? :coffee:
decent post, really. 'hawks D had them in the game. Wilson was pretty bad for 3 and a half quarters, and came up short despite many chances. yes, he had a couple receivers drop passes but he also threw a crummy fade to an open receiver.radio here is talking about the fact that Flynn hasn't been throwing in practice as he nurses an arm injury from the preseason. speculation is that they announced Wilson as the starting QB as much because they had no choice as his pre-season performance.

Must we do this every week? If it looks odd it probably is. Looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, ITS PROBABLY A DUCK. Most of the rankings are early rankings anyways so take them with a grain of salt.

Just because they are early doesn't mean they have to be in some alternate reality.

I realize that, however every week there is someone new here asking why someone is ranked so high or too low

I got the sense last year that the staff may actually read these posts and incorporate them into their changes? Maybe they're helpful. As an aside I'm trying to figure out whether Wilson is even startable or even a "hold" on my roster, or was that preseason a mirage?

The bolded portion here is very wrong. The Zona defense is solid. The entire NFC West has improved on the defense side of the ball considerably in the past few years. There are going to be some serious blood baths in their divisional games.

Seattle defense sells out to stop the run. The gave up 43 rushing yards last week, and a large chunk of that was to a WR on an end around. I won't be shocked to see Romo torch the secondary, but seeing Murray have a big game would be a surprise.

they have an excellent secondary... they stopped the run well because they could trust their secondary and didnt need 5 or 6 guys in the back.. larry fitz only caught 4 of his 11 targets.. that wasnt by accident.

Excellent secondary is an opinion. I think Sherman and Thomas are excellent, but Chancellor and Browner have serious deficiencies in coverage. Kam isn't fast enough. He's akin to an extra LB playing safety. Dude brings the hammer in supporting the run defense. Browner has a problem with mauling WRs. Will he improve and not lead the NFL in penalties again? Perhaps. As a Seattle fan I hope so.Seattle stops the run so well because they're starting 3 DTs across their front. Red Bryant might be labeled a DE, but he's the size of a freaking house. Seattle's problem will be creating pass rush off the edge. Clemons showed last week that he's ready to repeat what he's done during his first two years in Seattle. Their overall philosophy is about creating 3rd and long situations by slamming the door on the run game at all costs. These third and long situations lead to pass rush opportunities resulting in quarterback mistakes (hopefully turnovers). Will they get any pass rush out of Bruce Irvin on the other side? Again, I hope so, but so far we haven't seen enough of it through his first five games (including preseason). I've watched Irvin get swallowed up by OTs with regularity. Without the ability to get to the QB on third down the Seattle secondary is going to be get exposed just like any other potentially excellent secondary would.
