Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady. (Cyrus McCrimmon, The Denver Post)Ryan Clady, the Broncos' Pro Bowl left tackle, suffered a knee injury off the field and it could be serious.

An NFL source said Clady injured the patella tendon in one of his knees during non-football-related activity. The significance is not yet known.

Clady, now in his third NFL year, played every down on the Broncos offensive line last season. In being voted to the Pro Bowl, he became just the 11th tackle to earn the honor in his second season.

In his rookie year, Clady allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL among tackles.

Clady was the Broncos' top draft choice in 2008, at No. 12, from Boise State.

Got the newsflash from the Post. I went to the main site but they haven't updated it yet.

Orton, Moreno and Buckhalter owners are really hoping that this isn't a season-ending injury...it'd be a major hit to the entire offense if Clady is gone...

Free agency is a wasteland for Denver if they want to go that route:

Looking at guys like Flozell Adams, Mike Gandy, Daniel Loper, Levi Jones, Tra Thomas.

Could potentially trade for Jammal Brown, who's supposedly on the market. Jared Gaither would be a great get but the Ravens don't seem serious about putting him on the market in spite of persistent rumors to the contrary.

rotoworld/josina anderson is reporting he had surgery, but he says its not too serious.

Broncos LT Ryan Clady confirmed Wednesday that he needed surgery to repair the patellar tendon he injured in a recent non-football-related incident.

rotoworld take-

The surgery was done on Clady's left knee. The Pro Bowler claims the injury is not serious, but Mike Lombardi reported on NFL Network's Around the League program Wednesday that Clady will miss "significant" time. "It's not that bad," Clady insisted to FOX 31 Denver, adding that he hopes to be "ready for training camp." Still, it sounds like Clady tore the tendon, which could easily sideline him into Week 1. We'll update as the situation develops.

PFT is now saying he injured it while playing basketball... interesting. they're also suggesting the broncos sign flozel adams... interesting as well.

Fox 31 Alert: I just got off the phone with R. Clady. He spoke briefly. Clady says that he's hopeful he will be "ready for training camp.

Clady to Fox31: On t/ characterization of his injury, R. Clady said to me, "it's not that bad." Gt impression tht meant glad it's not worse

2 sources told Fox31 they heard Clady had some type of procedure on his knee. When I asked Clady did you have surgery he replied "yeah."

When I asked Clady which knee it was, he said "left." The call then ended understandably. The Broncos will not confirm Clady's or from other sources coming in.

Last thing they needed because Tebow needs a lot of time and if they can't protect Orton's/Quinn's backside, they might have the unfortunate situation to get another QB to start ahead of their first round pick because the first round pick isn't game ready. At least with Tebow, if he develops, they need a RT more than a LT. Still looks like a potential ....

is there a clause in his contract prohibiting him from playing sports other than football?

if so, would the fact that he played basketball be a violation?

There are generally clauses prohibiting players from certain dangerous activities, but basketball isn't one. Most teams have organized basketball teams that play for charity and so forth. And a lot of hoops courts on premise.I saw some reports that Clady was telling people 3 months, and one on PFT that if it's true he tore a tendon, he's done for the year.

So were looking at 3 months and missing no time or gone for the season? With the ex-Patriot OC in charge I suppose we won't find out until he's inactive on gameday. It wouldn't surprise me for him to be a "Game Time Decision" all year and never step foot onto the playing field.
