Vikings Sign RB Ryan Moats

Posted by mikewobschall on June 15, 2010 – 9:42 am

The Vikings have bolstered their RB stable by signing free agent Ryan Moats, a 6th-year player out of Louisiana Tech who was recently released by the Houston Texans. Moats adds a veteran presence to a position group that includes Toby Gerhart, Ian Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Darius Reynaud and Albert Young.

“I watched them last year get so close to achieving the ultimate goal,” Moats said of the Vikings. “I’m honored to be a part of the team. I look forward to being a member of the team and working hard to help us get to the Super Bowl.”

Hard to say but at best he could become the guy they turn to in obvious passing situations. I don't see this as a great opportunity for him. He is just looking for a spot as a role player in my opinion.

Moats was in Philly when Childress was OC there. Probably similar to the Greg Lewis signing, Childress is adding a veteran presence with a guy he is comfortable with. He could have garbage value if ADP is injured, but has no long term value.

Maybe he got a lot better at in Houston but the main reason he was let go in Philly was because he couldn't pass block after three years.

Grab Moats as your handcuff to Peterson in ALL leagues......this guy will bring it home for you if Peterson goes down!!!!! Don't hesitate to pull the trigger either as other owners will be looking closely at him.

Excellent signing for the Vikings.......they now have added RB presence during TC. Peterson can take a few plays off and work on fumbling drills! My prediction: Moats gets released near the end of TC.

Moats lands with Vikings: The Vikings have signed RB Ryan Moats, who was released by the Texans earlier this week. Moats is expected to battle for a spot on the depth chart behind Adrian Peterson. Moats is familiar with Vikings head coach Brad Childress as he was drafted by the Eagles in 2005 when Childress was still there as their offensive coordinator.

Injury Report

No information available at this time (Updated 6/16/10).

Fantasy Analysis

Moats could be a candidate to fill in on some third downs with the Vikings and otherwise provide depth, but we don't see him taking a sizable portion of work away from Peterson. If anything, Moats would hurt the production of rookie Toby Gerhart, but it would take a monster training camp for him to do so. Moats isn't worth a draft pick in Fantasy play for now.

Wasn't Moats available last offseason and the Vikes didn't grab him but the Texans did?
He was with the Texans in 2008 & 2009
Sorry for not being clearer. But weren't they one year deals? Where he has a gap of employment and is wondering if a team will pick him up?If so, my only point was to wonder why they didn't want him then is all. No big deal

He was RFA, I don't remember the tender.
