Ryan Torain (1 Viewer)

12 team non-ppr .... i just dropped Portis for Torain(other options would have been drop Caddy or F.Jones, both on byes, but i like 20 touches out of Caddy & i own Barber so i think of Jones as handcuff type)
a guy in my league did this. very much hoping to land portis.

Here is what we know.

1. Willaims was released and he had 6 receptions the last 2 weeks so part of their game plan seems to be throw to the backs maiunly because after Santana Moss they really don't have much they can rely on.

2. Portis was rumored and I use that term loosely but he is rumored to be going to a 3rd down back because of his blitz pick up skills and also for his receiving skills.

3. That leaves Torrain IMO as the guy who should get somewhere in the 14-18 range for # of carries. What does that mean in the Washington offense? I'm not sure because their OL is pretty questionable right now.

Thoughts?

in a league with a short bench (3), i just dropped josh freeman to pick up torain. here's hoping he gets some production to raise his trade value. otherwise it's the scrap heap for a bye week filler QB for me....

Funny, I am starting Portis and Torain (only other option is Maroney) because I like the matchup in Philly. I figure one if not both of them should put up solid numbers, and I have little to no confidence in Denver's running game in Ten. Now, that being said I wish I had a better option. I don't.

Shanahan has proven in the course of his career that he has a good eye for backs who suddenly emerge as viable fantasy starters, BUT the OL in WAS is definitely NOT what he had in Den. My gut feeling is that Torain will be the guy to own going forward.

Portis limped off of the field after a few hits. I saw more of Torain who was running very well... But if they both go down. Chad Simpsons the guy to own!! Both RBs are injury prone.

I thought Torain looked really good yesterday. He ran hard up the middle and he surprised me with his speed around the corner. With Portis hurt and Redskins on record that they want to get this guy more involved how do you guys see his value for the rest of the year?

Good for you!Our league puts all FAs back to the wavier at 1:00 sharp Sunday afternoon until Wed morning in order to give everyone a fair shot.
As it should. By having open waiver periods, it gives certain owners (those that have the time to watch all games or on top of NFL news) a big advantage. I work on Sundays, no internet access, and record NFL games. When FF starts paying my salary, I will be more on top of NFL breaking news. I think Torrain has good value right now and the Portis owner should have claimed him last week. If he/she didn't, then they missed the Torrain train. Even if Portis is the starter Torrain has injury/bye week value. If Portis is out, Torrain is a very serviceable RB2.

He's got RB3 expectations with RB2 upside should Portis bite the dust or continue to have lingering issues. The biggest problem will be the Shannigans. Once one of Ratface's RBs gets thrown into the "starting ocean", sharks tend to circle so you will be nervous starting him with any regularity. I will say that Shannihan seems to have a bit of a fondness for him though dating back to Denver. He's the best bet on the team for touches IMO.

Some more info. Portis heard a "pop".

Rotoworld:

Ryan Torain-RB-Redskins Oct. 4 - 3:17 pm et

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan spoke highly of Ryan Torain after the running back's 70-yard, one-touchdown Week 4 performance.

Asked of the Skins' initial decision to place Torain on the practice squad, Shanahan explained that the team hedged its bets with his injury history. Shanny added that Washington would've been "heartbroken" had a team claimed Torain on waivers. He is headed for a start in Week 5 against Green Bay.

Clinton Portis-RB-Redskins Oct. 4 - 3:12 pm et

According to coach Mike Shanahan, the Redskins won't know more about Clinton Portis' groin injury until late Monday.

One report had Portis scheduled for X-rays, and he's probably also going for an MRI. Ports' acknowledgement that he heard a "pop" in the groin could mean it was torn. We tentatively don't expect him to face Green Bay in Week 5.

I haven't heard of leagues where you can pick up free agents in the middle of a game on sunday. Anyways, good move by you.
Im in a dynasty league like that. It's great! I'm constantly making moves. First come, first serve waivers. It kinda spoils me though.I've been waiting on this Torain guy to reach this point since Shanny drafted him. I'm glad that Keiland Williams smoke screen popped up. That was just what I needed to sneak Torain back onto my roster. Whewww! These guys in my dynasty league don't miss much.

I swore years ago that I would never take a rb where Shanny is the coach, but I was glad I stashed Torrian on my bench this year.

I've been informing this messageboard about Mr. Torain for the last three years, having watched every carr of his college career.

2008 called and they want their "sleeper" back.

So your position is that we should have burned a roster spot for 3 YEARS to get to this moment? Which may or may not pay off?Really?

I think the move was to tell him to have a cookie, then continue ignoring him.

NoMy position is that nobody should be surprised by Torain's success. The only people in this forum that are surprised, are those that have not seen Torain run before...guppies.

So six years from now when Matt Leinart throws for 190yds and 2 TDs in an Arena football game, are you going to tell us all that you saw it coming?

Ahh I have fond memories of stashing Torain on my roster in 2008 and actually using him in a game @ Cleveland. He had just come off a dislocated elbow or something so his arm was in a huge brace, but he still managed to put up great numbers (12 carries, 68 yards and a TD) before getting injured...again and then subsequently missing the rest of the season.Glad to see the hype train is back on in Washington! Too bad I didn't stash him again I don't think I'll get him with my waiver priority.

Other than his TD run, I wouldn't say I was impressed. Not saying I though he looked bad, but I didn't necessarily think he looked really good either. There were holes to run through and he did that. There was room around the edge and he got there. So did Portis. After the game, the Redskins were asked about attacking the edges. Basically, Philly isn't good on the edge. They usually have their safety more inside and their CBs aren't really good in run support. So, Washington attacked it.

Any trades with torain? Owned him since may in dynasty and the offers have started.
In a RB heavy dynasty league I made the following trade that involved Torain mid last week. I was 0-3 and looking towards next year anyway as I do not have much depth. I looked at Torain as a thrown in but now he has value. I liked it then and and loving it now. I hope he stays around for the year. If nothing else I will cause other teams problems going forward.I gave:Wells, Chris ARI RBMcClain, LeRon BAL RBBass, Devone MIA WRI received:Torain, Ryan WAS RBRoyal, Eddie DEN WRFinley, Jermichael GBP TEYear 2011 Round 1 Draft PickYear 2011 Round 4 Draft Pick

Leinart couldn't throw 2 TDs in a game with Fitzgerald and Boldin to throw to.

Matt Leinart is an NFL QB...a lot of folks in Phoenix not very happy right now.
Well Matt, I believe Max Hall will make them forget about you. Wait....there is no memory of you.

Portis believes he'll be out Sunday:

Clinton Portis said he's unlikely to play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

Although he said he hasn't gotten results back yet on an MRI of his groin injury, Portis said on the Mike Wise Show on 106.7 The Fan that "I don't think the team would even let me attempt to play on Sunday. I think they know I'm a speedy recoverer, but who knows?" When asked if he could play Sunday, he said: "I don't think so."

"I'm waiting to hear back from the docs now," Portis said. "I'm just waiting to hear back from the doc."

Portis said, "it's bothering me, moving and rolling around hurt, but like I said I'm waiting to hear from the doc. I'll take my time, make sure I'm healed before I return."

He said he was trying to "get loose at the end [of Sunday's game] and could tell something was wrong."

Saying the injury was "up by my private spot," Portis said, "I didn't even know the groin could be up this high. ... This is a part of the body that will shut you down. You don't want no part of this. It will shut you down."

Wise and Holden Kushner asked Portis about how the injury is affecting his social life. The ladies, Portis said, are "out of commission unless they've got a backup plan."

According to Roto, Portis said that the team will probably not let him play this weekend. Torrain will have a tough match-up against GB but if that is the best you have, at least you have a starting RB.

Get a different job, Don't hate because others got there days off right. I believe the hardcore should always benefit over those who go shopping with the wife all day sunday, and then because his team sucks he gets first claim and hits on the guy that everyone touts cuz he dont get his own info. That is just as unfair.First come first serve, in the age of the internet and phones that have all the apps....is the only way to go IMHO.

If you cant get a phone because of money, then you should not be paying to play fantasy football.

Got torain the same way, and will benefit cuz of FCFS...cuz i'm sure some guy in my league was sewing doilies or sumthing, instead of manning the battlestation on sundays.

No excuse, Sundays are for football. Negotiated in my current contract of employment to not have to work Sundays, so I can own up to my statement.

Meh, but they can fire me at anytime I gues, lol
