Ryder Cup (1 Viewer)

There's just a talent gap now between US/Europe. Tiger, Phil era US guys are fading, Reed/Speith/Walker guys are emerging but not there yet. Then you have the disappointing guys like DJ, Mahan, Watney who haven't really followed through on their promise.

Seriously, who is the US golfer in his prime who can dominate in short stretches? Bubba?
The only problem is, when we had Tiger and Phil, we still were getting beat.

seems to come down to who handles nerves better and the Europeans generally make the US look like introverted third graders about to go on stage at the talent show.

Euros at times (Poulter comes to mind) look Tiger-esque in terms of getting better as the gravity of the moment increases.

Darren Clarke named Euro captain. Last year was the first time in a long time I pulled for the US team. That experiment was short-lived.

Reports out that Davis Love III is the next Captain, going to be difficult for him to top the Meltdown at Medinah.
:goodposting: he played terrible
So Ryder Cup Captains have no affect on the outcome of matches? His two Captain picks were Jim Furyk & Steve Stricker and they were awful. He also screwed up the Sunday singles pairings.
No doubt Jim and Steve were disappointments, but I believe he also selected Dustin Johnson who played very well. scored 3 points.

Overall I think you have to be happy with DL3 as coach. He had those guys in a great position to win on Sunday where everyone plays. Not sure what he could have done on Sunday to change the outcome, the US team just didn't show up. I don't think you can hang that on DL3.
And he also picked Snedeker sucked so basically he hit on 1 of 4 picks.

In terms of Sunday, it seemed rather obvious that Europe would lead off with their strongest players. DL3 should have responded in kind but instead Europe got the matches they wanted and gained momentum in the early matches that snowballed. A Captain influences the Ryder Cup primarily by his picks for the team and how sets up all the matches. DL3 was spotty with both.

How can you say he didn't respond? He put the hot players at the lead off who had been playing good that week. I thought he paired up well considering how everyone was playing.

Bubba - 2 points on week

Webb - 2

Keegan - 3

Phil - 3

Brant - 1

Dustin - 3

Zach - 3

Jim - 1

Jason - 3

Matt - 2

Steve - 0

Tiger - 0.5

I'm sure if you take 6 prior Ryder cup captains they will all have a different order, but it wasn't like he started off with guys who scored 0 points all week. I just don't see all the hate or disapproval of DL3 on how he paired up on Sunday. I don't think I'll ever take the side that the captain lost Medinah. That was on the players. Not to mention these are not 4th graders, they are grown men. They know what they need to do. To hang that loss on DL3 or even say he had a factor in the loss is poor IMO.

They were playing singles the first two days? I must have missed that.

I don't put the loss on DL3 but you can certainly question his Captain picks and how he lined up his Sunday players. Ultimately it is on the players but DL3 shoulders some blame in my opinion and I don't see why there is such a rush to bring him back 4 years later. Heck, the loss was such a gut punch they created task force to examine how the US approaches future Ryder Cups. That task force has so far decided to make an aloof senior citizen its first Captain pick and now with their second they have gone back to the Captain who oversaw such a giant collapse that it caused said task force to be created in the first place. It is a completed joke and I fully expect them to get their asses handed to them again next year.

I will put this out there - I am moving to the Twin Cities this summer. We have a 3,000 sq ft 4 bed 3 bath home about 10 minutes from Hazeltine.

If anyone is thinking about going to the Ryder Cup and needs a place to rent for the week PM me. You could easily have 10 people if you shared rooms.

At least we will agree on that part.
