10/09 10:00 Dolphins: Quarterback controversy brewing
The News
The announcement wasn't made officially until Sunday, but it appears Daunte Culpepper and Nick Saban were at odds most of last week, that Joey Harrington was pronounced the starter on Saturday, and that Culpepper's shoulder injury was not the sole reason he sat out. Saban told the media Sunday that he's concerned that Culpepper's lack of mobility is putting him at risk of being severely injured, and that he won't play Daunte until the quarterback's mobility improves. "Don't ask me when that's going to be because I don't know," Saban told the Miami Herald. "So if you ask me and I get [peeved], you got it coming."
Our View
The Dolphins went to a different style of offense featuring more short drops with quick reads and throws to help Harrington avoid pressure on Sunday, and it worked – to a certain extent. Harrington was only sacked once, but he also threw two back-breaking interceptions. Culpepper's shoulder injury – he hurt his right arm back in week two – contributed to his benching in week five, but only in that the coaching staff feared he could hurt the arm even worse because he still can't move very well as a result of his knee surgery a year ago. We'll keep you posted on this situation as we hear more, but at this point neither quarterback should be in your fantasy plans.
