Saints QB McPherson (1 Viewer)

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said the team is not planning to send quarterback Adrian McPherson to NFL Europe this year, although new coach Sean Payton will be consulted before a final decision is reached.

Loomis said it's important for McPherson to work with the Saints' coaches in his first full off-season, and maybe next year would be a better time for him to play in Europe.

McPherson, a fifth-round draft pick last spring, was inactive for all 16 regular-season games this season as the third quarterback on the roster.

If there's any question to how far away Mcpherson is from playing in the NFL, that blurb should answer it.

i bet people were saying the same thing about Kurt Warner going into the 1999 season. my point is.....you never know.

and they were saying the same thing about rohan davey a few years ago too.the point is, if they are thinking about NFL Europe at all, that means the guy is far away from being NFL ready.

I agree, Dallas just sent Henson to Europe. Last year they wanted him to have a full off season working with the coaches. This could be a good or bad thing in both situations. I read an article about NFLE that said if a guy goes there he throws about 1/10th of the passes he would throw if he were in camp but it is against live players with real contact.

I had hoped that Adrian might get a shot this next season, but we shouldn't have realistically expected him to see the field before 2007. Unfortunately, the Saints complicated the situation by having such a bad season. With Leinart or Young around, we probably won't see McPherson on the field for some time. The good news is that he's only signed through 2007, so if he can take advantage of his low-pressure situation with New Orleans then he could be ready to hit the ground running (and passing) once his contract is up.

And I thought I drafted the next John Elway (that's who the were comparing him to) last year. Oh well...I'm sending him to the waiver wire. :bye:

I agree some of this has to do with McPherson's readiness based on his skills, but I think you have to attribute more of the problem to the Saints organization being in a shambles after Katrina. The new staff is probably going to treat this guy like a rookie, see what they have in him for a year and then decide how they want to develop him. Sean Payton is going to try to reinvent the wheel with this offense and McPherson is just a hold over, long-term project from a previous coaching regime.

I'm still hopeful, but this entire season was a loss for him.
