Saints Sign Pierre Thomas to 4-Year Deal (1 Viewer)

I believe Ivory is the big winner here as their most talented runner. This kid has enormous potential in that offense. No slight to Thomas, but Ivory is their future, IMO.I thought they might be interested in Ingram or possibly trade for a top-flight RB, but as far as future competition for the feature back role, Ivory owners should be pleased. If he develops as a pass-catcher, Ivory could be a stud.
he didn't look special to me. He looked like part of a great O but not individually special to me. IIRC he was an UDFA that many liked so I know he's got some underrated skills. What did you like about him? When I saw him, he runs very hard, isn't afraid of anyone/anything, and ...well he runs particularly tough for a guy that's not huge or a FB. He's reasonably fast, but he didn't seem to have much wiggle either.

I thought he showed good speed and for a guy who runs with power I thought he was able to get the edge fairly consistently. I'd agree on not showing much wiggle. To me his running style is a considerably faster Marion Barber but he's light years away from Barber in terms of what he offers in the passing game which for the Saints I think is going to be his biggest hurdle to playing time.I'd disagree strongly with the part about were you said "he looked like part of a great O but not individually special" because to me that suggests he's a plug and play type player when the numbers reflect he was far and away the most effective runner for the Saints last year. Individually not a single runner other Ivory got 100 rushing attempts so the sample size is fairly small for everyone. But while Ivory was running for 5.2 yards per carry we saw Reggie at 4.2, Pierre at 3.2, Hamilton at 3.6, Julius Jones at 3.7 and Betts at 3.3. So only Reggie broke the 4 yards per carry mark. Collectively the Saints RB's other than Ivory had 259 rushing attempts for 3.54 yards per carry and 4 TD's while Ivory was at 5.2 yards per clip and scored 5 TD's and Ivory had more goal line carries than the other backs and almost no third and long type carries which are things that make it more difficult to achieve a higher yards per carry. So to me nothing suggest Ivory was a beneficiary of the system when the system did not seem to benefit anyone else.

I wouldn't trade a bag of Chips for Ivory. The best case for him next year is a "Mike Bell role" Thomas will be the lead dog in this commitee and could be a high end RB2. The celing for Ivory is 400 yards a 6 TDs. The floor is being inactive on gameday watching PT, Bush and Hamilton.Oh yea, this says nothing about thi Lis Franc
:fro: :lmao: :lmao: He's never finished better then 20 in FF and he's always gimpy. All of a sudden he's gonna become a stud because NO signed him to backup type money. Top end RB2 indeed. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Yeah keep laughing. Stuff like that never happens. But I do recall that some undrafted RB signing with the Texans last year and going on to win the 2010 rushing tittle.

that undrafted rb didn't have 4 years of NFL mediocrity on his resume where he never touched the ball more then 200x's in a season.can't handle a lot of touches? check

gets hurt every year? check

has tons of competition? check

signed a backup type contract? check

All of a sudden PT is going to become a stud coming off his worst year yet. :lmao:  :lmao:  :lmao:  :lmao:

All I am saying is it really is not that predictable. You want to write him off go ahead but I won't be surprised if he becomes the bell cow for the Saints like he was on their Super Bowl run.

i would never say never, but if he hasn't been able to handle 200 touches a year without getting injured i don't know how all of a sudden he's going to become their bellcow.i think the Saints know he's best used in moderation, especially since they have Ivory who can help split the load, and possibly Bush. It's unlikely he even gets the opportunity to get a ton of touches even if he miraculously could start to handle them. after 4 years the saints know what he can handle, and it isn't a full load.

Even when he is playing he's always got some little injury, and now he's coming off a major ankle injury.

he's worth a roster spot, but the people thinking PT is going to all of a sudden become a bellcow top notch RB have their head in the clouds.

I don't think PT is the most talented player but I think he does everything well. He runs hard, breaks tackle and has enough speed to go the distance. He catches and blocks well. Honestly, I think he is a better NFL player than fantasy player because he hardly ever fumbles. Bush and Ivory turn the ball over too much. (This is why I believe the Patriots were interested in him.) PT will be getting the carries when the game is on the line.

Maybe I missed something.. Where in here did anyone say anything remotely close to that?

That's what I'd like know.

This is a real crap shoot IMO. Whoever stays healthy will put up O.K. numbers on a pass first offense. My money is on Bush renegotiating a deal with the Saints for much less pay than he has been getting. He will stay in his role and PT and Ivory will split reps at that halfback position. I also wouldnt put it past the Saints to draft a RB in the later rounds for depth. The best thing the Saints could do for all these guys though is draft a tackle that can bust open some running lanes. The line play was horrendous compared to other seasons.

absolutely 100% correct. also, i think reggie signs an "extension" that lowers his total compensation to considerably. this new CBA will scare a lot of players who have question marks going into free agency - age, injuries, ability, et al - to sign contracts for far less than they would have fetched in years prior.

I hope the Saint's go OL and some form of pass rush (DE or LB) in the first 2 rounds. I could also see them taking a RB later, but if Reggie comes back, that back won't see any significant time. Ivory will start the season on PUP, right? He is no threat to take away carries this year.

Not sure I havent really kept on top of Ivorys situation. If what your saying is true this solidifies PT as the starter next season. Bush will be the x factor and may even be used as a WR depending on negotiations with Lance Moore. One thing Bush has that isnt often credited to him is good hands and good route running skills. His RB skills and durability make him risky as a RB. I think Sean Payton is using him in the correct manner if Bush can just stay healthy. I say that every year though.

Everything I've read has Ivory more than likely starting the season on the PUP and that he will be lucky to see the field this year. I do believe Hamilton will be back and expect him to play the Mike Bell role from the title season.

ivory is a good bet at PUP. recovering from lisfranc - even minor as he claims - is something that will keep him off the field. he'll need time to get back up to speed. i don't think anyone should read too much into the tea leaves about who will be behind PT as the nominal starter. hamilton? hill? tiki barber? UDFA? it is waaaaay to early to speculate about the player and their role.

PT sucks

Once an under-talented RB suffers a serious inhury, you might as well toss them out...especially in a RBBC situation...

I foresee a committee and likely wont target any of the saints backs in 2011.

Ingram is a great dynasty pickup though.

WOW I GOT 4 PTS OUT OF MY RB3! HE HAS VALUE!
 Pierre Thomas = Value in leagues that require 5 starting RB's.
You guys have yet to make a point. They only thing you've proved is that you're over-opinionated and that you're wrong about this situation. But please, by all means, continue.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Sad little man. Why don't run along and play with your :e:litist friends. I'll be seeing you around the way.

What's sad is calling people names and basically mocking everyone with a differing opinion (because you think you know what's going to happen), then being proven wrong and continuing the behavior.
