Saints WRs this week (1 Viewer)

So, is DeAngelo Hall going to be locked on Horn this week, assuming Colston is out? Does anyone have any info on the types of numbers WRs have been putting up against Hall this year? The Saints passing game has been putting up big numbers all year, and the Falcons D hasn't exactly been great, but I'm wondering if Hall significantly limits the production of the guy he covers. And if so, does that open it up for the other WR?

OK, I did some digging. If Hall has normally locked up on a team's top WR, here's what the numbers look like:

D. Mason - 3 catches, 28 yards, 0 TDs

Braylon Edwards - 3-31-0

Roy Williams - 6-138-1

Chad Johnson - 6-78-1

Hines Ward - 8-171-3

Burress - 4-44-0

Larry - 3-66-0 or Boldin 4-42-0

Colston - 7-97-0 or Honr 3-47-0

Galloway - 9-161-0

Keyshawn (Smith out) - 4-40-0

So it seems like top WRs have fared pretty well against the Falcons, no matter who might be covering them.

hall is a young kid with alot of talent. His problem is he is prone to try and make the big play (INT/big hit) then to make smart play. Its gotten him burned plenty this year and there are no signs of it stopping. plus the rest of the defense is banged up and atl doesn't have the pass rush they have when they are a healthy club which also negatively effects hall..

Hall should be 1/2 as good as he thinks he is. He's seems to think that his punk attitude intimidates guys. Maybe in college but this is the NFL. OK - maybe Todd Pinkston would be scared. :)

Just an FYI,

Doantell's defensive scheme does not always lock Hall onto a particular WR.

Hall may initially be lined up across from Horn, but then depending on the route run, he may stick with him or he may pass him along to another defender.

Through Week 11, the Falcons DS has given up 11 TD passes (league average is 12+) but they have given up an average of 247 passing yards per game (NFL average is 221) - Only two teams ( Bengals and Packers) are worse. Curiously none of the TD passes they have allowed have been to RB ( eight to WR and three to TE)

Sounds like a good matchup then since none of Brees' touchdowns so far have gone to a RB. The three main receivers out of the backfield (Bush, McAllister and Stecker) have combined to catch 99 passes with 0 TDs.Edited to add Bush is one of only four players in the league with 60 receptions or more so far this season. He's also the only one of that group that hasn't caught a touchdown pass (the other three are Andre Johnson, Harrison and Winslow).

The Falcons have had multiple injuries in thier secondary throughout the season. Right now they are 29th vs. the pass. That is not good.

Both of thier starting DEs are injured now also so they will not be applying much pass rush on Brees.

I would start any Saint Wr with confidence this week even though Hall is a decent corner back. The Falcons do not have enough talent thats healthy on defense right now to try to single out certain players on the Saints offense to shut down at the expense of others. They will probobly do what most teams have done and worry about Bush making them look silly.

Brees is a smart Qb he will go to the open reciever.

Thanks for the number crunching, mnesvig. I lost Colston (more than likely) this week but D Henderson is on my bench. Spinning thoughts about him in my lineup, and you did my math. Doesn't quite solve my problem, but fires my synapses.

Thank You.
