Where do we stand on nuts in a salad?
I hate that so many salads have candied nuts of some sort on them (we demand sugar on everything apparently) but unadulterated nuts can bring a great flavor and texture element on salads.

I had one with shaved almonds that was pretty good.

never as a meal

3-4x/wk with a meal

minimal dressing

depends on mood and need to mix it up, but i could more frequently do varieties of vinaigrettes

i think this article sums it up "i know it when i see it".

basically a place you go on Saturday night for prime rib & whiskey old fashioned's. almost always preceded by an hour wait in the ante-room/bar where you shoot the breeze with people you know who also happen to be there.

you sit at a table with white linen. there's probably a rustic or outdoorsy decor. there's a plate of celery/cauliflower/carrot/olive at your table when you sit down. you have no choice in this matter. you get a cup of coup and a salad. then your prime rib comes out an hour later with a baked potato. always a baked potato. you can ask for something else but they might kick you out. you can get something other than prime rib.. fish.. a steak. nothing fancy. just a big ####### pile of whatever meat you choose. there's are no 6oz. filets here. if you order prime rib, it's 32oz. if you get a steak, it's 40oz. if you want fish.. it's enough to feed 3 people.

the whole meal costs $22.95 and you will be in a full on drunken meat sweat before you're done.

it's as quintessentially a Wisconsin experience as eating cheese, drinking milk and being a fan of the Packers.
Was big in Ohio when I was a kid.  The place my family would always go for a fancy steak meal and dark green leather booths was called a supper club.  It also had the olive/veg/pickled stuff/cracker platter on a carousel.

ETA:  the relish tray looked like this, but had more containers.

I’m a fan but rarely add them myself at home
we always have several "great tasting and maybe healthy" additions available - slice almonds/candied pecan pieces/dried cranberries/french-fried jalapenos or onions, not necessarily all at once.  Those jalapenos are pretty awesome ...just like the stuff you put on green bean casserole, but jalapenos ...and they have a pretty good kick.

Great suggestions. The cranberries especially intrigue me, as they are good for my restricted diet.

Jalapenos & other peppers are a mainstay of mine.

I also forgot to mention eggs in my previous recipe.

I am an egg man...

Goo goo ba joooob!!!!!! 🥚🐔

We started doing either a large Cobb Salad or Chicken Caesar Salad at least every couple of weeks.  The Caesar is easier since it has a lot fewer ingredients ...but the cobb is our favorite - chopped tomatoes, bacon, avocado, hard-boiled eggs, blue cheese crumbles.

I’d like to eat a salad everyday, but probably eat them about every other day.  Dressing on the side - dip the fork prongs into the dressing before attacking the greens for just a touch of blue cheese.

I mentioned in the Spice thread that salad, not spicy stuff, gives me the runs.  Sure enough, I had a salad for lunch today around 11 am... on the can at 1:30 pm feeling like I am prepping for a colonoscopy.  🤢
