Why ruin the integrity of the ingredient?
1) watermelon is disgusting.
What the hell?I'd deport you just for thinking that.
terrible stuff. no redeeming qualities.

while we're at it.. corn can get bent, too
Corn is okay as long as its not transformed into the vile stuff known as cornbread or creamed corn. As long as it stays in its natural form, its legit. Now let's keep this train on track, if you wanna talk corn, start a new thread.
Holy mother of god how can someone so right about watermelon be so wrong about cornbread?
Corn is good. Bread is good. No need to combine them into a nasty ******* food.

The people voting "yes" are probably the same people that have to dip everything in Ranch dressing.

Salt enhances the flavor of the fruit IMO. Try it with a baked sweet potato before you put butter or anything else on it. Salt brings out the flavor just a bit.

Yes vote!

I like melon either way but if there is salt on the table I would use a little. If it isn't there, fine too.

Yeah have a little more salt. God knows you don't get way too much in everything you eat. Is it possible to be addicted to salt?

Never heard of this. Will never try. Watermelon is perfect by itself and while the combo might be good as well, I shall rely on the philosophic wisdom of my man Jules..... sewer rat might taste like pumpkin pie but I'd never know because I wouldn't eat the........

I don't think it would be good to dip the melon into the salt until it coats it white. Just a little sprinkle here and there is good. A little dab'l do ya.

Salt on watermelon is an atrocity against god and nature. Anyone who can't see this has been corrupted by satan.

I had never even heard of such a thing until this last holiday weekend.. was at a cookout and somebody had some UV Salty Watermelon vodka...

Most disgusting thing ever! :X

It was like eating a nice juicy sweet watermelon.... underwater.... in the ocean....

I hardly think a gimmicky flavored vodka called salty watermelon is a good respresentative of what watermelon with a little salt would taste like. I've had their whipped cream vodka, and guess what? It doesn't taste like whipped cream.

Enjoy your heart attacks, fellas.
my doctor told me to eat more salt (actually true)

Is BBQ considered health food in Memphis?

I didn't realize it was possible to hate watermelon.
I'm actually not a huge watermelon fan in that I don't generally crave it or seek it out, but I agree there isn't any good reason to hate. It's good by any standard.

What do you know?? You're a wingnut...

Have tried it and have nothing against it. However watermelon is perfectly fine on its own. I see no reason to delay shoving it into my face. Slice, eat, repeat. No additional steps necessary.

I know salt on watermelon is delicious and refreshing. Also, I like roller coasters.

voted NO - I can't stand the taste of salted watermelon. Also, my mother-in-law loves it, which is further proof that it's horrible and wrong.

Salt on cantaloupe is a delicious treat that I learned from my southern grandfather. The salt basically brings out the flavor of the melon so much so that even a regular old cantaloupe suddenly tastes like the best, juiciest cantaloupe you ever ate.

I have never tried it on watermelon - it never occurred to me - but now I look forward to trying it out.

I'll give it a shot, because why the hell not? That said, never heard of it before earlier (NJ/NYC all my life). I'm a big fan of the sweet/salt combination (chocolate with chips, pretzels, bacon, fries, etc) but just never thought of fruit as something that would work. Probably because the level of sweetness is off the charts, and it doesn't need to be "complemented".

But will try and report back.

And no, never seen prosciutto wrapped honeydew either.

Cantaloupe's taste ceiling is sweaty ass crack.
