Samkon Gado-RB- Packers Sep. 13 - 3:27 pm et

Profootballtalk.com reports the Texans have acquired Samkon Gado for Vernand Morency.

Former Green Bay coach Mike Sherman coaches the offensive line and surely was a major factor in Gado's acquisition. It's great news for Gado, who should be picked up if available in all leagues. Gado should have a better chance to get carries and vie for a bigger role in Houston.

TEXANS, PACK SWAP TAILBACKS

A league source tells us that the Green Bay Packers have shipped running back Samkon Gado to the Houston Texans in exchange for running back Vernand Morency.

It's odd that I drafted Gado, then later cut him for Morency, now I should pick him back up and cut Morency. My head hurts.

Seriously though, is this for real?

Why would either team make the trade? What does one back bring to the table that the other does not? What would make GB want Morency more than Gado, and what would make HOU want Gado more than Morency?

If this is true there seems to be much more trading this year during the season... at least talking about trading between teams then in years prior.

I think I'll wait for a few confirmations before I annoint him starter in Houston.

But jeez -- that Mario Williams pick sure is working out.....

Both backs have reportedly struggled in the offseason picking up new schemes, and coaches have voiced some displeasure from time to time. This is probably a good deal for both teams, and especially for Gado, who may have a chance to compete for the starting role under his former HC and new OL coach Sherman. If this does happen, those who were handcuffing Gado to Ahman Green are getting quite a bonus.

I think trades are becoming more common in the league for some reason.
Im glad they are because it is exciting but as a FF owner it is tough on you. This could help a lot of people who don't deserve the help, they were just lucky

Why do I get the feeling that Houston doesn't have a clue?

- Pass on Bush

- Underestimated Dom's knee

- Brought in journeyman Dayne

- Now trade away good young talent

I don't get it...and I don't see Gado taking the gig from Wali.

They like the other back more?
Obviously, but why?
From what I read the new coaching in Houston were never big fans of Morencey... and GB never seemed entirely convinced in Gado either, even when he filled in and caught lightining in a bottle for a stretch of games last year. As for why? I'm not sure, different teams... different evaluations / attributes they look for in players.

So if they struggled in the offseason picking up a new scheme, what makes anyone think they are going to pick up yet another new scheme without the benefit of training camp?

I am guessing this to be the case because the "starters" see little time in the preseason and when these trades would be worked out in weeks 3 & 4 of the preseason if they were playing they are now in weeks 1 & 2 of the season. I do not like this trend.

Morency is the one who loses out, he deserved a shot at starting and didn't get one. Now he can only hope that Ahman gets injured....which could happen.

Great, just great. Drafted Lundy/Morrency, looked like genius when D. Davis was declared out, then Dayne signs, and now this. Could have kept T. Bell, but wanted a "starter" instead of RBBC. Ugly. Any chance Lundy holds off Gado?

:lmao: 2 backups being traded...go out and get some fresh air fellas.

It's the top story on the USA Today fantasy football web site, but it sites the PFT story.

I checked in with two sports directors at Houston TV stations and they hadn't heard anything about it, including one that just got back from Texans camp and actually talking to Morency about an hour ago.

Not saying it's not true only that it hasn't been reported elswwhere yet.

I think the reason is that the new bargaining agreement created extra salarly cap room this year. Makes it easier for teams work out trades and stay under the cap. Not sure it's a permanent phenomenon.

Texans bring in Dayne and then Gado - sounds like houston thinks its problems with the run game are the backs fault and not the line. Why would the packers trade Gado? he looks very good in spots last year before his injury. Also notice Davenport is not there anymore either.
