Sammy Morris Superbowl hero? (1 Viewer)

As a long time owner of Felix Jones I knew I couldn't trust this guy going into Superbowl weekend and needed to acquire his backup (Sammy Morris) which I did about a week ago. So glad I did because there has been a huge run on Morris in all my leagues since Jones didn't practice again today... Jones is the superior talent at this point in their careers, but Morris could very well be in the Cowboys starting lineup this week. For a second day in a row he is taking all the snaps with the first team offense while Jones sits on the sideline.

For those of us who picked up Morris it may not be a bad thing. Morris looked really solid in his carries last week and I for one am leery of Jones starting the game only to be taken out because he re-injured his hamstring.

If Jones can't go Morris could be the last minute pickup that puts teams over the top. It seems that he may be the only game in town this week for a high powered offense in a game that could be a shootout.

If you still have the chance pickup Sammy Morris. He could win you a title.

I was thnking the same thing. Morris has the potential to win many championships this weekend if Jones is out. Hamstrings and rb's do not go well together.

I honestly don't know if I would start Jones even if he was given the ok. Those injuries take time to heal and if anyone tries to rush back (see Arian Foster) it usually doesn't end well. The last thing I would want is Jones to play at half speed or only half of the game.

I just grabbed Sammy Morris of the ww just in case.

Is there any doubt that felix "the ##### cat" jones is the biggest pansy in the NFL. I mean, if the wind blows too hard this guys pulls up lame. Why would any tema in the league want this guy on their roster. Is it just a coincidence that he & mcfadden came from the same school. I dont think these 2 combined have played a full season of games for their whole careers.

The thing about Morris is you know he's going to play hard and through any injuries he can. Like Kevin Smith, he probably feels lucky to have this chance and wants to really give it 100 percent. A hungry Morris is probably a better option than a "gotta be smart about it" player like Jones-- from a fantasy perspective at least.

Morris and Kevin Smith (don't mean to hijack but they seem similar to me) know they only have a year or two left to try and make NFL money. They're not going to look to go out of bounds or alligator-arm a pass the way a guy might who is trying to protect his long-term career. Those guys don't have a long-term career. They have right now.

In other words, I agree. Even if Jones was active but hurting I might consider Morris the better play.

Just heard on local radio that Jones status is very up in the air and Morris would be the work horse if he can't go. If Jones doesn't practice on Thursday I will not use him. Too many things could go wrong with this guy...At this point I hope they just name Morris the starter for this week and let me have some peace when entering my lineup. Poor guy (Jones) is a major talent, but just can't stay healthy...I also agree that Morris will be hungry to prove to the NFL that he has something left in the tank. When given the chance he has always been a solid producer.

Our waivers are locked for the playoffs. If Felix doesn't play I'm screwed. He's definitely on my DND list next year.

Who are some of you guys looking at starting Morris over?

Don't want to turn this into a "give me advice" thread, so just trying to get a general feel. He's out there to be picked up for me in the title game in my league as most of the league has stopped making moves as they get knocked out. But I've got relatively decent options.

What kind of production would you expect out of Morris? I've got a guy that I'd expect between 6 and 13 points from, and another that I'd expect between 8 and 15. Neither has major blowup potential. Does Morris have the type of blowup potential in the Cowboys offense that would make it worthwhile to replace middling players with him for? Floor/ceiling? I don't know as much as I'd like to right now about the recent history of Morris or the Cowboys.

^^ This is all assuming Felix is ruled out out and not a GTD

As an aside, if the Dallas run game - meaning Felix himself, whether he plays or not - goes south I am liking this Dallas/Philly matchup less and less.

Have to be careful gauging Morris off the TB game.

Just found this on ESPN:

Though Jones (hamstring) sat out practice again Wednesday, Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones says that the team is simply being cautious and that Jones will play against the Eagles on Saturday, Fort Worth Star-Telegram writer Clarence Hill reports.

My worry here is that this won't end up being an active/inactive call for you to make a decision on. The Cowboys are so thin at RB that you know even if they're only planning on using him an emergency, he'll be dressed.

I don't believe anybody anymore on this type of stuff. The extent of injuries are a "big" secret for these clowns these days. Likes it makes a difference on whether the team can execute plays.

I'm really thin at RB in league where I lost Murray but still made the playoffs. Started LT at RB2 last week. My only other option is Gerhart. Probably playing Morris no matter what happens with Felix.

This is my biggest fear.

I have decided to bench Felix Jones and Morris if he plays. If Felix is out, I'm going to start Sammy Morris over Michael Crabtree in my flex (PPR).

While Felix has the potential to have a big game if he plays, I think the risk is simply too great. If Sammy is the starter, with only Chauncey Washington behind him, I see him having a great game. In PPR, I would assume he'll pick up a number of cheap catches too.

I picked Morris up in two leagues for the block, and left him on the FA in one league to antagonize my opponent who has no bid money left.

May consider starting him in one match up over Lynch if its for sure that Jones is out, he will ride the pine in the others.

Just heard Jones will be a game time decision.

OK now since it's looking like Felix is going to be extremely limited even if he plays, whats realistic for Sammy Morris?

Floor

60 rushing

10 receiving

7-8 points

Ceiling

100 rushing

40 rushing

1 td

20-24 points

Tough call between him and other FA pickups like Kalil Bell.

I understand how owners went down the path with Felix, maybe picked him up off waivers as frustrated owners parted ways during the season, it looked like you might have struck gold, but now he's hurt again, still I don't think Sammy Morris is a great option today. Having to start and carry the load, I just don't see him having a super productive day.

What do you all see that has you excited? I saw him last week, he looked well rested.

Opportunity. Somebody has to carry the load.Pass receptions - Dallas will dump off some screen and swing passes.

Do you like him better than Chris Johnson? I'm trying to gauge this

Personally, no, but I'm way out of other options at this point.

I like him in simply because he should touch the ball a ton today while playing for a high powered offense.
