Sammy Morris- Will He Still Share The Load w/Maroney? (1 Viewer)

I assume NE will try to run more now. What's the word .... ??

Is it a true RBBC ? What happens when Faulk returns ?

In many leagues, Morris is probably the top RB available on the WW this week (depending on how you would rank him compared to someone like Pierre Thomas, who's very similar right now in my opinion). He's an interesting case study because he seems to have walked right back into the role he had last year before he got hurt. At that time, he was putting up Top 30 RB numbers, making him a very viable RB3 in most leagues.

On the plus side, it seems clear they will give him 8-15 carries a game, including the goal-line looks. On this team, even without Brady, that should result in some quality production - especially when you consider how easy the Patriots' schedule is.

On the flip side, no Brady is obviously a killer and there's no way to know right now just how much it will impact the team. Will they cave and struggle despite the talent around Cassell or can Belichick coach 'em up and can they rally around Cassell and still win most of their games? There's really no way to know this until we see how Cassell performs.

The one thing I am pretty certain of is Morris won't be catching 5 passes in a game again anytime soon. I think that was entirely the result of Faulk not playing. With Faulk back now, I'd expect him to be the third-down RB and be the primary RB in terms of receptions.

For me, it boils down to this with Morris: Are 8-12 carries and 40-60 yards with a TD maybe every other game worth the investment? Is that someone you would want to start as a RB3 or someone you want to have on your bench for depth purposes? Or do you think you can get similar or better production out of another player either this week or at some point later on in the season?

That's my take.

Morris looked just like he did last year pre-injury which is not good news to Maroney owners. He was running very hard and there's zero doubt the coaching staff likes him and is not afraid to use him. Maroney still has the most upside but I dont ever picture Morris not getting his share if he's healthy (and if Maroney stays healthy it limits Morris's value as well). As for Faulk he'll go back to his role of being the third down back who will do his damage in the pasing game with a few carries to keep defenes honest. As for Jordan he's a complete mystery and if he gets an opportunity and seizes it a murky fantasy situation becomes a full blown nightmare.

No. He will have his spots like usual, less when Faulk returns.
I really can never get my head around when people say this. What has Faulk ever done to suggest he will/could steal enough carries to be considered a good play??? This isnt Marshall Faulk y'knowWhen in his career has he ever been a must start, handcuff, or a good enough player for even a bye week?

I will contine to roll the dice with Morris.

How did you get your take from what you quoted the OP from saying?

Yeah really, all I am saying is three is more of a crowd than two.

i dont think anything Faulk does makes him special ... it is what he DOESN'T allow the other RBs to do because they don't get those extra receptions and 3rd down draws because he gets them

I actually think Faulk is the most underrated offensive player on the Patriots. Not only has he been a terrific safety valve for Brady in the passing game, but he's a willing blocker who can pick up blitzes effectively. He isn't a great football player by any means but the guy fills a vital role on that team and his third-down work may become even more important with an untested QB running the show.

There was a thread last week discussing the expected RB mix in New England. The real intangible was how Jordan might impact Morris. After one week...it didn't appear that Jordan is a factor. If Morris is going to be used as he was last year before his injury...and it's looking like that's the case...then he's going to perform WAY beyond his ADP.

Is it just me, or are there new threads on the NE RBs every day?

NE = definition of RBBC.

With Brady out, ramp all of them up slighty, but I don't see any single guy getting a huge piece of the pie.

Given that BB seems to love Morris, I would give him a bigger cut than previously and take some away from Jordan. So now maybe 50% Maroney, 35% Morris, 10% Jordan, 5% Faulk/Evans in terms of carries.

Remember that the Pats change things from week to week, so this week Jordan could see more reps and someone else less (as an example). For now, Jordan seems to be pretty far behind Morris, and I wonder if that's due to a lingering injury to Jordan.

It's almost as if, DY, you should just pin your thoughts on the NE running back situation so that we can avoid the daily thread on this topic. Amusingly, your stance has been unchanged since basically right before the 2007 season....and you've been spot on the whole time. :jawdrop:
