They probably have a different launcher. There's a ton of them out there, most of which are available in the Play Store. I'm not 100% certain as I've never done it but I think you have to be rooted.Edit - Check that. According to this article you don't need to be rooted. Check the Android Central or XDA forums and you should be able to find an easy way to root. I've read through a few but don't have the balls to try some of them in case I brick it.Had a problem with the WiFi connection always borking out. Found out it was the Power Save, but not in the usual menu, but in the Service Mode - dialer keypad - *#0011# - menu button - wifi - power save - off. Now my connection is way better, yet at the risk of the battery going out, but I can toggle that when I leave the preferred wifi spots. Dunno if it was already posted in this thread, but that really did the trick for me. Really loving this device. Now if I can find a root that won't brick it or hurt the warranty, it'd be even better so I can access the device more. I don't even want a ROM for it. It's fine as it is.
Yeah, I checked out XDA today because I wanted to get into the file system more, and needed a root solution to get it. But I don't want to brick it. I'll wait for Jellybean and then maybe try it. I talked to a Verizon Tech support guy today while waiting to get a voice mail quirk worked out, and asked him about the Bootloader thing. He didn't really give me any details (he was an iPhone guy) about it, but hinted it can be done. He was great too. Really happy with Verizon's Tech support. About the launchers - just tried an old fave out, GO Launcher. The device felt a LOT slower, so I went back to the Samsung UI. I may try ADW or Launcher Pro, but I like to save the RAM for other things, and I dunno how much RAM all those pretty things use.Check the Android Central or XDA forums and you should be able to find an easy way to root. My brother switched from the iphone4 to the S3. After going through 2 S3's, he returned it and went to the iphone5. The lags were getting old and his signal was crap compared to his work phone (iphone4) that was on the same network (verizon). He had several missed/dropped calls, texts lagging or being cut in half, etc. He also said the battery life stunk compared to his iphone4. He absolutely loved the size of it, the customization available, etc but just couldn't take the issues he was having. Kudos to Verizon... they were awesome about the exchanges each time.Still rocking my EVO...but not for long.Christmas present will be a new phone and its down to the S3 or the iphone5.I was actually leaning iphone5 after fooling with it a bit and now that we have an ipad at the house we have been moving that way here. Then I went in and actually played with the S3 today...and its freaking awesome. I like the 5...but the S3 to me was just right. Part of it is I just like Android OS vs. IOS...not as much because of customization...despite the claims of some that IOS is more intuitive...to me Android works the way I want it to and the way I think an OS should work for a user.Rumors of the IV do nothing for me as making this thing even bigger would take it out of the running (though, if I could carry it...the NOTE is pretty sweet).Other than some lagging issues here and there...anyone noticing any big glitches?
Well...after playing a bit more with it...I ended up going with the S3 today.Yeah, I could have waited til the Thursday/Friday and gotten it for $49...instead I went to Radio Shack...got it for $99 on my upgrade and their deal right now threw in a $50 google play credit. In addition, they were offering a deal to get $10 radio shack "coupons/cash" for every $50 spent. So with the $100 spent I got $20 in those...and another $5 for something or other. I don't go there much, but can buy batteries or other things there that I do need...or put it towards a bigger microSD card than what I have.So far loving this thing...very fast and slick...getting it all to my liking is taking a bit as usual...but its the fun part of making this phone mine.Still rocking my EVO...but not for long.Christmas present will be a new phone and its down to the S3 or the iphone5.I was actually leaning iphone5 after fooling with it a bit and now that we have an ipad at the house we have been moving that way here. Then I went in and actually played with the S3 today...and its freaking awesome. 1. Go into the settings menu on your phone and open the Application Manager. Now select the tab to see ALL of the applications
2. Look for "Google Services Framework" and click on it.
3. Press the Clear Data button, then click Force Stop, this will not hurt your phone or anything on it so dont worry! (If any of you are wondering about the Google Service Framework data clear, this is done because the Android update is sent out by Google, so when clearing the data and doing the force stop, it basically refreshes the current state and status of that service, which in turn makes your phone basically look for any updates.)
4. Now go back to the Setting Menu and go and to the System update area and go to Update Samsung Software. The date at the top where it says "Date last checked" should be something like 12/31/1969, which means your phone is now prioritized to recieve the OTA Jelly Bean update message.
5. Click the Check now button to check for the update again, your phone should recieve the update message. You might have to go back and repeat this process a few times, clearing the data and forcing stop, I was only pressing clear data first the first 2 times I tried this, and checked for the update and nothing happened, but then when I went back pressed the force stop button for Google Services Framework, and re-checked for the update I got the update right away.

I was never too worried about it but it's not that difficultHow do you guys deal with the lack of Adobe Flash, non-rooted? Some apps have media that are flash based (I think the Rotoworld app uses Flash) and I can't access the media. Any suggestions?
I completely disagree. The Gorilla Glass is nice but it can scratch easily and protectors like the Spigen ones do not diminish the screenYou do not need a screen protector on this thing. It's made with gorilla glass. A case yes, but putting a screen protector on kills that beautiful screen.
Actually it cannot scratch easily which is the whole point and test after test has shown that (real world and laboratory)otherwise they would use glass like an iPhone. Yeah...I don't see this scratching...I went without a case and screen protectors on my EVO (well, after a bout a year I went without the case) and don't see me using a screen protector on this. I did order a case though as if my kids get a hold of this thing I worry about it a bit. For such a small price for a protector, I dont see why anyone wouldn't. I have a cheap $5 one that has been on my phone for over a year, and you can't tell its there unless you look at the edge of the screen closely. Sand or any other mineral or rock fragments will scratch Gorilla Glass, no sense in taking a chance. Have not had a problem at home.Been running mostly off of the network signal while at the in-laws because the wifi/router is overloaded with 5 laptops, a ton of cell phones, and at least 3 iPads with everyone here.Got my S3 this past week, love it.Only complaint I have currently is that it seems much worse at picking up Wifi signals than my iPhone was. I could use my iPhone almost all over the house...with my S3 I can only go a few rooms. Is this common? I am still within my return period if so.
To each their own I guess. I can always tell when someone has a screen protector on the phone and it always (to me) reduces the quality of the screen. Yeah I got a case for 9 bucks through Amazon that's great. Expensive oopsy. :(Screen protector seems unnecessary, but I wish I had gotten a case. I drunkenly dropped my S3 after only having it a few weeks.. It's not a huge crack but it's a noticeable flaw on an otherwise perfect phone. I looked into buying a replacement glass to fix it myself and they seem to run nearly $200, brutal. :(
Every screen I've ever had that I didn't protect has got scratched. For $5 I have peace of mind.If you have insurance, I'd use it to get a new phone and sell the one with cracked glass. Broken 'as-is' Galaxy S3s go for $150-$350 on eBay. As long as yours is 100% functional, you will more than cover the cost of the replacement.Screen protector seems unnecessary, but I wish I had gotten a case. Damn. I didn't consider resell $ when deciding whether or not to get insurance on it. I think they said the deductible was like $200-300. Factoring that cost with the monthly insurance cost it seemed like a waste. I'm dumb.Is there a consensus on which particular case is the best? A friend has the OtterBox or whatever and it seems way too bulky/rigid to me. The crack is pretty minor but I'm worried about dropping it again and it getting worse, so I guess I better get a case...Every screen I've ever had that I didn't protect has got scratched.
