Now we get to see how much Harbaugh meant it when he took his digs at the Seahawks when he talked about the "Niner Way" and the approach a team should take in conducting itself. Integrity is fun to talk about in the abstract, but not always fun when you're the guy under the gun in the moment.

Not to mention Marshawn Lynch http://lmgtfy.com/?q=marshawn+lynch+dui. They've pushed his court date until November.

UPDATE:

http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2013/09/20/aldon-smith-will-play-sunday-in-wake-of-arrest/

Niners All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith will play in Sunday’s game against the Colts at Candlestick Park after he was arrested for suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession at 7:02 a.m. today.

Shortly after he posted $5,250 bail and was released from Santa Clara County Jail, Smith was in attendance at today’s practice, which began at 12:40 p.m. Jim Harbaugh said he would play against Indianapolis.

“Expect Aldon, like today, he’ll be back to work and playing on Sunday,” Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh said the NFL had exclusivity when it came to meting out punishment such as a fine or suspension.

Last year, however, the 49ers suspended running back Brandon Jacobs for the final three games of the regular season. The team did not provide a reason for the suspension, but it was levied after Jacobs had aired his frustration over his lack of playing time on Twitter and Instagram. In addition, backup defensive tackle Demarcus Dobbs didn’t play in a 16-13 loss at St. Louis on Dec. 2, two days after he was arrested for suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession around 4 a.m. Harbaugh said Dobbs wasn’t at the facility when the team left for St. Louis later that day.

Harbaugh closed down the line of questioning when asked why Dobbs wasn’t allowed to take a later flight.

“I’m not going into the specifics and the dissecting of what the policies are,” he said. “If you want to question those, so be it.”

Harbaugh said he encouraged Smith to face his teammates in the aftermath of his latest arrest for suspicion of DUI. Smith was also arrested in Miami Beach in 2012. Harbaugh said he was “disappointed” with Smith’s latest off-the-field incident.

“Felt like he needs to go to work,” Harbaugh said. “Face his teammates and soldier through it.”

Given his early morning arrest, Harbaugh was asked if Smith was focused at this afternoon’s practice: “Yeah, it seemed like he had his wits about him,” he said.

Smith will likely face a suspension after his latest incident as a repeat offender of the NFL’s personal-conduct policy. Dobbs, who does not have any other known off-the-the-field incidents, served a one-game suspension this season for his 2012 arrest.

“There will be consequences,” Harbaugh said. “There always is, good or bad, we all have consequences.”
ABOVE REPROACH

Harbaugh is a great coach but he is such a hypocrite. Easy to criticize other teams, but when your guy gets arrested for DUI (crashed into a tree) and possession of marijuana/pills, you let him practice a couple hours later.

Did he ever suggest the Seahawks should suspend their players on top of the bans handed down by the NFL? Or is there some other event I'm missing?

Meanwhile.....

Every Chief win could mean another second round pick for the 49ers. They got a fairly soft schedule ahead, so Captain Sacked should be able to manage his way to .500.
Good info here. Heres the skinny:

With every win the Chiefs rack up, the 49ers' odds of getting a better draft pick in 2014 increases.

In exchange for Smith, the 49ers received a second round pick in the 2013 draft, and a third-round pick in the 2014 draft....That third-round pick becomes a second-rounder, however, if the Chiefs win at least eight games.

That sounded like a reach when the Chiefs finished 2-14 last year, but it now looks like it is a really good possibility.

GO ALEX! lol

Oof. No excuse for that. Kaepernick clearly needs to make some adjustments and Roman needs to get creative.
Not having Vernon didnt help either. The only WR they had to respect was Boldin...thats a recipe for a bad day for any QB.

ETA: Kaeps other options: Kyle Williams, Quinton Patton, Marlon Moore, Vance McDonald.

Lack of WRs really showing now. Even though it is still early in the season, it is going to be tough to catch the Seahawks.

Ted Robinson (49ers sportscaster for the non-homers reading this) warned, during preseason, that the first part of the season would test the 49ers and fans' confidence.

IIRC, SF starts with the most difficult schedule through game 5. 2-3 or even 1-4 wouldn't be out of the question. And here we are, staring at that and heading to STL on a short week.

But the home stretch of the season is when the schedule softens, and we start getting players back (Manningham, Crabtree, Carradine, Quentin Dial.). So I'm not throwing in the towel yet.

But it's been tough to watch this anemic offense the past 2 weeks.

Pretty much, although I predicted a 10-6 season earlier in the thread. Just make the playoffs fully healthy, and they have a shot.

Aldon Smith suspended indefinitely, his locker is cleared out
They handled it poorly IMO. Crashes Saturday AM, plays Sunday, and then suspended indefinitely? Weird sequencing.
Ummm... think you've been :fishing: 'd?

Unless there's a link, I'm not buying the suspension thing. Yes, he'll be suspended, but not until the legal course plays out, or the NFL weighs in. (Otherwise the 49ers might be open to a lawsuit by Aldon and / or the NFLPA.)

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000248867/article/aldon-smith-suspended-indefinitely-by-san-francisco-49ers

For some reason, the 49ers allowed Aldon Smith to play Sunday, despite the fact he was arrested on suspicion of DUI at 7 a.m. Friday and despite the report that Smith would get treatment AFTER the team's Week 3 game vs. the Colts.

Now, after San Francisco fell 27-7 to Indianapolis -- and Smith accumulated five tackles -- 49ers CEO Jed York made the pronouncement that Smith would be out indefinitely as Smith seeks treatment. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported he will being counseling Monday.

That means Smith won't play Thursday vs. the Rams in Week 4, and it's unclear when he will return.

Reading up on Twitter, I guess it's not actually a "suspension" per se. It's an "indefinite leave of absence" to enter inpatient rehab, per Peter King.

Which is good because he won't be able to drink tonight.

As I posted in the game thread, the 49er crowd must have adhered to that letter to the editor about crowd noise. I could hear Luck clap his hands before the snap.

Unbelievable.

Gore just a little steamed at Harbaaww..

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/22/report-frank-gore-angry-at-jim-harbaugh/

Frank Gore was one of the few 49ers who played well in today’s loss to the Colts, running 11 times for 82 yards and catching two passes for 21 yards. Which leads to the question: Why did Gore only get 13 touches?

That may be the question Gore wanted answered when, according to Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle, he was angry at coach Jim Harbaugh at the end of the game.

Lynch reports that Gore “had choice words” for Harbaugh near the end of the game, as Gore was taking the field toward the end of the 49ers’ 27-7 loss.

Agreed, to an extent, but when you have a great OL and very good RBs and a good QB, you should be able to manufacture offense somehow. Kaepernick had a few bad looking, inaccurate balls which are unusual for him.

Re the schedule: their early season schedule is brutal, but this was a gimme game that they had to take advantage of. The Colts aren't very good and the Niners had them at home coming off an embarrassing loss. The Rams looked terrible yesterday but you know they will be fired up and they have the CBs to lock the Niners WR down again. If SF starts 1-3 it will be a big accomplishment just to get back to the playoffs as a wild card and lose a road playoff game.

Kaepernick has had two bad games. The offense as a whole has had two bad games. I still believe in Kaepernick. He's going to bounce back and the guys calling the plays are going to adjust. Gore will get more touches. I think the Rams game will be a serious fight, but I see the 49ers coming out on top. I just don't believe in Bradford like I do in Kaepernick.

The only time the offense looked decent yesterday is when they drove down the field on their TD, riding Frank the whole way. Why abandon that?

And that outside toss where it looks like Kap shot puts it with two hands is terrible. I'm pretty sure they ran it 3 times and it was stopped for a loss all three times.

 I hate that play. When they run it in practice, does it really look good enough to use it on game day? SHM.

The first time that appeared yesterday I assumed it was a broken play and Kaep had panicked and just tossed it. Looks really weird, but then again nothing about Kaepernick's mechanics are traditional, I guess.

If they don't get going defensively, I may be forced to fill out a pink slip on their DEF. Ironically I have IND as a backup.

Gordon on the trading block. Baalke needs to hear what they're asking. With a boatload of picks and possibly another 2nd rnder coming from KC, this is a deal waiting to happen.

With all the off field problems the 49ers have had even outside of A-Aldon, bringing Gordon in could make it worse.

The whole statement from Jed about Aldon was a total PR move. Aldon has had problems since or maybe even before his first DUI pinch. From then on they tried to keep them under the radar until it finally came to a crisis point, and their idea of crisis management was to have him play anyway because well, he get's paid either way, and we need to win this game.

So bringing in someone into that culture with a troubled past may not be a good idea despite the need.

I agree on the Gordon front but I would ask what they want for Little...i still think that guy could be good and he can probably be had for a 4 or 5

From what little I have read on Little (yuk yuk) about off season issues, he seems to be against off season DUI's, so maybe that's the better choice between the two. Being that the 49ers players have had 5 of them.

49ers have placed Aldon on reserve/NFI list:

http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2013/09/23/49ers-place-aldon-smith-on-reservenfi-list/

The 49ers placed All-Pro outside linebacker Aldon Smith on the reserve/non-football injury list today, allowing him to seek treatment for what’s believed to be a substance-abuse problem

On Friday, Smith was arrested at 7:02 a.m. for suspicion of DUI, his second such charge in the past 20 months.

“Aldon Smith is taking a leave of absence to address a personal matter,” general manager Trent Baalke said. “The 49ers organization both respects and supports Aldon’s decision and commends him for taking responsibility for his actions. The long-term well-being of our players is paramount and we will stand by Aldon as he works toward addressing this issue. Due to the private nature of the matter, we will have no further comment.”

Said Smith: “I am taking a leave of absence to address my health. I am sorry that I have affected my team, my family and the organization. I will do everything in my power to handle this situation the best way possible. I appreciate the support of the 49ers and our fans.”

There is not a minimum amount of time Smith must remain on the NFI list. He can return to the team when he’s ready. It is common for treatment programs to last about a month. If Smith follows that timeline, a possible return date would be after the 49ers’ game in London against Jacksonville on Oct. 27. San Francisco has a bye the following week before hosting the Panthers on Nov. 10.

In Smith’s absence, Dan Skuta and rookie Corey Lemonier will assume his role. It’s expected that Skuta will play in San Francisco’s base defense and Lemonier will take the field in pass-rushing situations. The 49ers can sign another player to fill Smith’s spot on the roster.

I'm not worried about Kaep in the long term. Kaep as starter has played 10 regular season games with 3 post season games in his sooooo small sample sized career. His teams weren't as strong as the 2011 team, and even that team's leading scorer was K David Akers. The 49er defense is what is more concerning in the immediate sense because they have been torched late last season up to this season. Their front 7 is depleted as opposed to 2011, and the secondary is always suspect.

Where the 49ers have gotten away from is putting the players in the proper position to be successful, especially on offense. They saw what Kaep can do against Green Bay, and thought they had everything on track. What they can't fix is how fast it derailed off said tracks. That's on the coaching and the Front Office, who are betting more in the long term. They keep drafting projects, some who can't even make the field like Lattimore. Jenkins was a reach pick who went bust. Baalke and "Maratheball" are trying to match the New England style of personnel management while keeping the Salary Cap number malleable. Of course you need a Tom Brady to be able to get the most value out of lower round skill position players on offense.

They need to simplify the offense to get the greenish and sub par WR corp to get into the best successful position so they can make plays. The 49er have a QB with an arm, a big arm. They need to simplify his reads. Just go back to basic things the offense can work with as a whole. It's not that they don't have the talent, it's that now all of the sudden they forgot how to develop it.

It might be a season where fan expectations should be lowered and tempered. It happens with a lot of teams who have a hard time keeping successful. If they go 10-6 with an offense still in transition into the post season, then that's not bad. They still have Kaep, and even then, they should keep drafting QB's to keep what they are baking on offense going.

The SEA game, then Aldon crashing into a tree, to now getting beat by their own style of football means the party is over. That's on Harbaugh. He now needs to get them focused again, while getting himself re-focused, and not get baited into verbal pissing matches with players, other coaches, and certain Bay Area media guys. He needs to bring back discipline, and that includes himself. His act is now tired with Gore of all people. Lotta challenges ahead for the team, and it's all on Harbaugh.

I thought that was his charm. Didn't we all love the sideshow... while they were winning?

I never did. He ain't no George Seifert in that respect, who only once took a jab at Bay Area KGO radio host Bernie "Kiddie Porn" Ward during the ESPY's, after conducting a radio pole calling for his head for Jimmy Johnson in 1994.

Only one I see talking trash is ITS. Ninja and Hooper aren't talking trash, and usually don't. McSpiffy is a Rams fan and not even I have started crap in this thread, despite drummer's pathetic outings in other threads. Par for the course I guess for you guys though, making things up to get upset about.

I posted twice in the thread. Once was updating due to Smith's leaving the team (which I figured would be appropriate in a thread about the team) and again expressing surprise that SF fans disliked Harbaugh. Apparently that makes me a troll?
