*** San Francisco 49ers *** Kittle locked down til 2029; Purdy contract watch underway (9 Viewers)

Efactor with his holier than thou bs, throws insults at anyone he disagrees with. Might actually be Kyle with such a staunch defense of him and disdain for anyone (including sports reporters) who talk even moderately poorly of him.

He’s lobbed about 2 dozen insults at me over the last couple of seasons, never really deserved a response nor do I think I ever have.

But personally, I enjoy Wingnut’s posts. He usually has some interesting off the beaten path (but meaningful) numbers in there. He posts something inconsequential about KS, and in comes running Kyle’s jockstrap.

I stated the window was closed at the end of last season. That’s shifting towards consensus now. I saw the collapse coming at the moment it happened. My bet of the week (and I rarely post wagers) was GB -19.5. I’d like to think I have the slightest bit of credibility when it comes to seeing the larger picture.

And the Reid comparison above is a good one imo. He could never cross the line until he had Mahomes. He’s a good coach (just like KS), but I think there are at least a dozen coaches who could do what he’s doing if they had Mahomes as their QB. He couldn’t do it with McNabb who was a solid QB, he needed the generational talent. KS is a good coach who obviously has his flaws. He had numerous chances to cross the line, couldn’t do it.

Lost in the shuffle, I stated earlier I think Jim Harbaugh wins a SB before KS, I stand by that.

Could do it without....

I think you're making the argument that the coach isn't that importnant.

I know there's a SB or bust mentality, but the reality is that 31 of 32 coaches will fail to achieve that this year. Sometimes you just catch bad breaks despite your effort.
I’m not looking at this year in a vacuum. I think my comment about Jimmy Jim Jim kind of speaks to the opposite of this.

The 49ers highest-graded players against the Bears, per PFF:

1. Dominick Puni: 93.4
2. George Kittle: 91.7
3. Brock Purdy: 90.3
4. Jake Brendel: 82.6
5. Jalen Graham: 81.1

Where have these 49ers been all year?
Playing teams that weren’t the Bears. Sure they looked good, but blowing the game against Seattle prob cost them a shot at the playoffs.
I don't think it was all about playing the Bears. I think Purdy was the healthiest he's been in like a month, and they actually featured Kittle which they too often forget to do. Hufanga back also was a boost for the defense.

Bears have been playing pretty well recently. Last 3 games, lost to the Packers by a point and the Vikings and Lions by a FG. 3 very good teams.

Good all around game for the 49ers especially considering missing Big Trent and Bosa, along with no CMC.

Unfortunately it’s going to be really tough to assess the offense this week if Guerendo is out. His backups seemed pretty bad yesterday.
I wonder if we'll see Abanikanda Thursday night.

Matt Barrows:

If no Guerendo on Thursday, the 49ers' RB pecking order likely will be:

* Patrick Taylor Jr.
* Ke'Shawn Vaughn
* Israel Abanikanda

Injury updates:

Shanahan on Guerendo:

"We'll see if he can go on Thursday, but definitely can't go today," Shanahan added. "It's a quick turnaround, so we've got to evaluate him hard each day. I'll be surprised if he does much tomorrow. But hopefully, Thursday will be enough time for him."

Offensive lineman Ben Bartch sustained a high-ankle sprain and is likely headed to injured reserve later this week.

Linebacker Dee Winters and safety Malik Mustapha are considered day-to-day. Winters is nursing an ankle injury, while Mustapha is dealing with chest and shoulder injuries.

Shanahan previously indicated that linebacker Dre Greenlaw could make his 2024 season debut on Thursday night against the Rams. While that remains a possibility, his status is still uncertain.

"There's a chance [he'll play]," Shanahan shared. "We'll see. I haven't talked to him yet, so we'll see when he gets in here tomorrow, how he's feeling, how practice goes Tuesday and Wednesday, and we'll make our decision then."

Defensive end Nick Bosa and tackle Trent Williams each missed their third consecutive game. "Nick Bosa, still in the same situation," Shanahan said. "We'll evaluate him as this week goes. Trent, no different."

Left guard Aaron Banks has cleared concussion protocol and is expected to play on Thursday night

49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw set to make his season debut tonight vs. Rams, sources confirm.

Even if he doesn't play a lot of snaps, this is a major boost. He means a lot to the team as an emotional leader.

In a must-win game, the 49ers did not score a touchdown. At home. Against one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

Im roting for a Bills - Lions Super Bowl.

Kyle Shanahan said LB De’Vondre Campbell told the 49ers he didn’t want to play and he left the game in the third quarter.

Well that doesn't sound good.
Charvarius Ward on De’Vondre Campbell refusing to play after Dre Greenlaw went out:

“That’s some sucker stuff to me. Probably gonna get cut soon.”

Personally, I'd suspend him instead without pay, as I think you can easily claim conduct detrimental to the team.

But seriously, what a baby. Like, he's sad Dre Greenlaw (a pro bowl LB) got his starting spot back? Campbell would have never been starting otherwise and has done nothing to suggest he deserves a starting job since 2022.

This is crazy to me. Has anyone else done this? I’m wracking my brain trying to think of any player who just flat out said he didn’t wanna go in the game and drawing blanks.

You mean prior to two weeks ago, when Diontae Johnson refused to go in at wide receiver when called on for the Ravens? I can recall Antonio Brown and Vontae Davis ended their careers and retired from football in the middle of games.

Oh, wow- the last couple weeks I’ve been extremely busy at work and was completely oblivious to the Diontae Johnson issue. That’s crazy.

I remember AB soing his nutzo striptease walk-off, but I remember that as him being asked to go to the locker room, after taking himself out?

Campbell refusing to go in just seems nuts to me. What? were his feelings hurt that he had to ride the bench for Greenlaw?

This season doesn’t feel like the 2020 season. That was a SB hangover and devastation from injuries. While the injuries have piled up this season, I still saw the potential in 2020. Candidly, I don’t see much to get excited about with the current team. This really is starting to feel like complete rebuild, imo.

Does Purdy still get mega paid?

Hell no. Dude has been shown as a fraud
I definitely dont think hes a fraud. I think hes looked pretty good this year with a TON of extenuating circumstances and his #s arent bad. Theyve had no consistency at RB all year. They lost their #1 WR after he started off slow due to holding out. His other weapon looks washed up. He hurt his shoulder, then they played in snow, then they played in rain. Its been a bizarre season with absolutely no consistency week to week. Im hoping they take care of him. He is the least of their problems.

Maybe he’s slightly more than “just a guy” but he’s not anybody who can win you something when things go south (see this year) and 50+ is still a big number for a guy like that.

No other team will probably touch him after that stunt. Sometimes these guys just don't want to play football anymore. With Campbell, it just so happened to be during a game.

That sucks. On the heels of Deebo being a total butt about things, Shanahan has some work to do on team culture it would appear.

IMO 49ers lost this game because they tried to force feed a washed up Deebo

Deebo dropped one of the only good passes Purdy threw last night and what would have been a slam-dunk TD. He tried to run up the field before securing the ball.

I agree with your assessment. I always thought Deebo was way overrated. Last night confirmed it for me.

Quite a few QBs in the league should be sending Mahomes/Allen/Jackson gift baskets for setting the QB contract market so high. Teams are so worried about losing decent QB play that they’re willing to pay elite QB money to Lee decent QBs.

I would have said the same thing about the Eagles and Rams the last few years. But like I said before, a good draft or two and they’ll be right back there.

Yeah, it’s a fair question how much non-top tier QBs are worth. I mean, the difference between Purdy and a replacement level QB is vast and worth 3-4 wins IMO. But he’s not a top 2-3 QB that can carry you deep in the playoffs by himself either. I don’t subscribe to the title or bust philosophy so I think he’s worth paying something approaching the market rate.

Devin White pretty much quit on the Bucs last year too.

Daniel Jones comparison comes to mind - showed enough to get a contract and if thats the case its gonna be a big one. Hope it turns out better
