*** San Francisco 49ers *** Kittle locked down til 2029; Purdy contract watch underway (2 Viewers)

Montez Sweat is a Chicago Bear.

Does Lynch try to get CB Jaylon Johnson? He's a true CB1, Lenoir could move to the slot permanently.

If coverage could hold up for just an extra second it might help the pass rush get home.
For a second+ more picks (reportedly) and then they’d have to give out a big contract to keep him for more than 9 games? No thanks. Keep the picks and build something sustainable. Shanahan and Lynch are under contract for a long time.
We have the most cap space and Johnson is top tier. Why not get a proven top tier guy while we have this window with most of our core guys signed thru 2025 and a cheap QB?

I wouldn't give up a 1, but a 2nd wouldn't be terrible since we have three 3rd round picks and multiple 4th and 5ths as well.

It's going to cost a second plus another premium pick, reportedly. Are you willing to trade Deebo or let Auyik walk this offseason? Because that's what you're going to have to do to afford a big contract for Johnson.

Other than Kittle, Trent Williams, and maybe CMC, most of the team's best players should be good for another 3-4 years. I don't think they need to panic and make this year an all-or-nothing proposition.

Deebo is signed thru 2025, Aiyuk will get paid this offseason. They always find ways to make the money work. Always.

A 2+ is a bit heavy, maybe they send a player instead of a 2nd pick, IDK.

They need to unload Kinlaw in a trade and activate Kalia Davis to give us a boost in the run defense.

Edit: Kinlaw is good as gone after this season, I bet thats why they're keeping Davis inactive instead of putting him on the PS. He's Kinlaws replacement next season IMO.

They barely found a way to make the money work for the current roster through next year. Effectively adding another premium free agent is going to require a deep cut somewhere else - that's just a fact. Kinlaw is a FA and was expected to leave anyway, so that doesn't really help. I was surprised he made the team and it seems clear now that he shouldn't have.

We have no way to know that. The cap is easily manipulated, and Marathe is a wizard.

I just feel like we have to go ALL IN since we've squandered 3 chances in the last 4 years. Whatever it takes at this point. Deal with the cap space later, get Lombardi trophy #6 now.

You copy and paste Lombardi's tweets here all the time so you obviously read him - go look at his articles on the Niners' cap situation. You can do a lot to manipulate cap figures, but Marathe has already squeezed most of that fruit and can't just wiggle his fingers in the air and create ways to continually add pro bowl players at pro bowl salaries. I strongly disagree with your short sighted view of the situation and the last few weeks and Wilks' performance demonstrate that this isn't the time to push all the chips in for a Rams-like 1 year run.

It's all good, my man, we don't have to agree on everything.

Let's just hope they turn things around starting next week.

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the San Francisco 49ers are reportedly in discussions about potentially acquiring Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson. The Buffalo Bills are also said to be showing interest.

It prob won't happen, but I won't be mad if it does.

Jeremiah, Brooks: 49ers primed to make a "big, bold move" ahead of trade deadline

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles are on a collision course. The two teams are racing toward home-field advantage and will clash on the football field in Week 13, a rematch of last season's NFC Championship Game.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has already made waves by acquiring safety Kevin Byard, further strengthening a formidable roster. With the October 31 trade deadline looming, Roseman could still have more moves up his sleeve.

Jeremiah suggests that the 49ers, armed with an NFL-leading $40 million in salary cap space, could be poised to make a significant move to stay competitive. He speculates that head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch could be preparing to make a headline-worthy move.

"I think they do something big," Jeremiah recently said on the "Move the Sticks" podcast. "They're all in right now."

Jeremiah also pointed out that the 49ers have a history of making bold moves, like last season's surprise acquisition of running back Christian McCaffrey, who has since proven to be a game-changer for the team.

"I mean, McCaffrey is darn near as big a name as you can get, and they went and got him last year, Buck," Jeremiah told his co-host, Bucky Brooks. "I think we're missing something with this team. Keep an eye on the 49ers because it doesn't feel like this is a team that's going to go quiet. This feels like a team that's ready to make a big, bold move."

He believes the 49ers must make a "checkmate move" after the Eagles added Byard.

"It has to be something big because, right now, you look at the Eagles roster with [WR] Julio Jones, who is not the same player, but they are certainly going up," Brooks added.

"But they've got the assets. They've got money, they've got picks, and they're all in. ... But it just feels like there's no way we get to Halloween and the 49ers haven't done something. There's no way."

What would be the position move to make here? I don't know much about the Niners overall roster construction other than them being "the most talented" roster so I'd imagine there are not a ton of wholes to fill. Off the top of my head, I guess CB, right? No one trades OL/DL midseason usually, but I guess maybe Chase Young would be an option? Seem set at:

QB'
RB
WR
TE
OL
DL
LB

Safety market has a few guys left, I saw the Vikes were trying to ship out Harrison Smith also. But do you need a Safety?
:shades:

Chase Young in 2023 among DEs:

* 8th in Total Pressures
* 13th in Sacks
* 14th in Pass-Rush Win Rate
* 15th in PFF's Pass-Rush Grade

Let's go!

be interested to see how they rotate him in...would have rather seen a CB because the dline should be stacked already but not going to complain about this

I didn't speak it out loud, but I thought Young or Sweat could be in our sights.

The NFC has an arms race going. And your division just got easier without those 2 pass rushers.

Akash:

49ers still have their 1st, 2nd and multiple 3rds in the 2024 Draft.

I'd imagine they're trying to work the phones and see if they add a corner to go along with Chase Young.

If they do make another huge trade they better win this year...they are going all in if a 2nd trade happens. I can't image we can sign Chase Young long term

If Chase Young walks after this season, the 49ers still probably get a decent compensatory pick.

Which makes the third-round pick that they're giving up not really that much.
Agreed, although I think it takes a year for the comp picks to be awarded so they'd be basically trading a mid-late 3rd this year for an end of 3rd rounder a year later. Still, not expensive.

My guess is he instantly starts opposite Bosa, and Drake Jackson maybe gets fazed out a bit. Could also be Ferrell, but he's played the 2nd most snaps this far.

Excellent move by the 49ers in my opinion. Young when healthy has still been a very good player, even if he's never reached his rookie season heights.

Yeah I think Jackson is the odd man out.

Nice

Chase Young is currently 11th in the NFL for edge players with a pass rush win rate of 25%.

Nick Bosa currently leads the #49ers with a win rate of 21% (17th)

Drake Jackson needs to start worrying about his roster spot.

Not happy seeing the rich get richer, but congrats on a huge signing. Bums me out even more we already played WAS both games and get no benefit from this trade.

Niners working the comp pick game.

Per Maiocco:

The third-round draft pick the #49ers trade to Washington is the special compensatory pick for losing Ran Carthon becoming Titans GM and DeMeco Ryans becoming Texans head coach, source says.

Says the guy whose team has the best record in the league and just traded for Bayard and Julio Jones.

GTFO 😬
I don’t mind BEING the rich getting richer. But we need more to keep pace. I want Johnson from Chicago!

Per Barrows:

2023 sack totals for 49ers defenders:

Chase Young 5
Nick Bosa 3
Javon Hargrave 3
Drake Jackson 3 (all week 1)
Arik Armstead 2.5
Fred Warner 2
Kevin Givens 1
Dre Greenlaw 1
Randy Gregory 1
Clelin Ferrell .5

Crazy to think that the story line after the first 5 games was "Kyle Shanahan system is so good that he can win with any QB".

The story line now is "How can a head coach still lose with this amount of player talent?" The turntables have truly turned in SF.
He’s still 5-3 this year and the season hasn’t been written yet.

That link says it was reported from a fake account.

But I wish you guys had gotten Jackson- he’s worse than what you have now. If he’s jot getting roasted like a chicken at a Kenny Roger’s franchise, he’s committing DPI.
