San Francisco at Seattle (1 Viewer)

I was at the Bucs game today and they suspended it for an hour and I didn't see a single lightning bolt or hear any thunder...I get cautious but damn.

What happens in 2013 America.

You have an NFLPA that'll sue if a player's uniform is too tight, so the NFL reacts by suspending gameplay, in case a raindrop hits Russell Wilson square in the cornea, causing momentary discomfort

I heard the announcers say they saw lightning just before the game was suspended.
So people really don't understand the danger of lightning to a football game? :oldunsure:
How does suspending the game protect the 80K fans?

Do they roll plastic bubble wrap over the stadium to protect the fans?

I'm sorry, are professional football players not playing football because it's raining out?

What the ####?

I love how they have 106 men out there trying to kill each other, some of them in fact killing each other with blunt force trauma to the heads that will result in concussion-related problems when they're older, but it's raining so at least we're saving them from that spate of lightning deaths in football stadiums that the NFL has studied in recent years.

#######it this world is so, so stupid.

The NFL does not have a contract with the fans. They cant make them leave their seats (and don't have room for them).

They "own" the teams and employees and can for e them to take shelter. its not that hard to understand they are protecting their investment.

Football's becoming like baseball in terms of weather delays. Never thought I'd see the day.

So is it just a coincidence that all these storms have lightning whereas before they just had rain? Or is the NFL just being waaaaaaay more cautious this year?

I certainly know lightning is nothing to mess with but I'm just wondering if the NFL suddenly cares more or if all these years lightning wasn't present.

DD...there was one visable bolt before the suspension...and nothing after that. We were on the north edge of that storm according to radar...after 15 minutes it was obvious they could continue. We never left our spot. We donned ponchos and hung out and slammed beers. 95% of the stands emptied...we see these storms all the time...like I said, I get cautious but an hour + was ridiculous

This is the NFL protecting itself from future lawsuits from the NFLPA citing Ombrophobia in retired players

If you don't understand how lightning works (which it seems you don't), try reading this. There are reasons that you need to take cover in an open field, there are reasons there are lightning rods on buildings and in air fields. gllllllll

A ticket is a contract.

I imagine these weather delays will continue unless the networks say they don't like them. The NFL will due a 360 if dollars are at risk.

This is :bs: I was at a Nats game this year when there was lightning and they made us all clear the stands. The stadium can do whatever they want, including making you leave the stadium altogether.

Bb- they tell all the fans to take cover under the concourse. Of course, that gets packed like sardines, so we opted to ride it out in our spot in front of the pirate ship. No prob. It was fun except for the soaked shoes and socks

I was speculating with that opening game that they're just doing this on purpose as a cash grab to extend the game broadcast time and thereby extend the number of commercials they can show.

Now I'm pretty sure of it.

Everyone knows when you suspend play, the lightning automatically knows its not allowed to strike the stadium.

I need my 13 points, People. I don't care WHERE they come from; I just need my 13 points. Let's get the show on the road.

Damn big loss for the Hawks. Okung has had quite a few injuries already in his career as well.
