Santonio Holmes caught with Weed! (1 Viewer)

I think its silly that everyone overreacts to weed so much, but I was more concerned with this: "Holmes was driving a SUV with out-of-state license plates near Mellon Arena. The vehicle matched the description of one linked to a crime."......whats that all about?
It probably has something to do with a young black guy rolling around town in a $70K SUV they just needed an excuse to pull him overI agree that weed isn't the end of the world but you would think that for all of the millions of dollars these guys are being paid that they could put off the weed smoking until their careers are over, or at least until the off season. I think 99.5% of people in this society would agree to steer clear of any trouble, drugs etc. if they could be making 1, 3, 5, or 10 million per year you could find a lot of fun things to do with that kind of money that don't include you breaking league policies, it's not that tough.

Or at least do it at home. Not rolling around in an SUV all blinged out, smoking blunts. That is just plain dumb.

So now the question is does Holmes get a suspension. Has he been in trouble before? Does he fit a similar profile to Kevin Faulk who got a one game suspension for getting nabbed with the hooch?
Don't know his standing with the NFL, but here are his past problems:Holmes was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida on May 27, 2006 for disorderly conduct. Charges were subsequently dropped after Holmes paid a fine.Holmes was arrested for a second time on June 18, 2006 for domestic violence and assault in Columbus, Ohio.On July 7, 2006, Holmes appeared in Franklin County Court in Columbus, Ohio for both a pre trial regarding the domestic case and hearing regarding the traffic ticket. He plead no contest to the traffic ticket and agreed to pay a fine. While Lashae Boone, the mother of Holmes' daughter and the victim in the assault case, requested that the domestic violence and assault charges be dropped, the prosecutor refused. Boone and their daughter accompanied Holmes to court. The charges were later dropped.
I don't think those incidents will have bearing on this situation, although I'm not an expert. The substance use program is seperate from the personal conduct policy. To me it's hard to imagine an scenario where he doesn't get suspended this year, but I'm not sure what the specifics were with Faulk vs. say the standard 4 game suspension.

That is just an excuse cops use to pull over black people.

:goodposting: The whole "vehicle matched the description of one linked to a crime" is such a crock of ####. The giveaway is that they volunteered that "fact" from the get go. What are the odds you get pulled over because your car looks like one involved in a crime and you get busted for something else? I'd say the odds are infinitely higher if you're a young black guy driving a nice car.

If Larry Johnson gets suspended by his team for talking to a hooker in a bar like Bill Cowher (wet look)..then Holmes with weed should get triple the amount by the Steelers!

Hello Nate on the WW!

I'd say pretty good if your driving in a blinged out SUV near an area known for lots of drug activity and a high crime rate, while having weed in the vehicle.

Well if you're doing something wrong you will get busted. I've been stopped twice for being in the wrong place with the wrong vehicle and was not arrested. Of course I wasn't high, drunk or carring a weapon and always addressed the cop as sir. I guess that is the key.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on this comment from the police Sergeant

“We wouldn't expect a steelworker to be laid off or suspended without pay,” said Vogel. “I wouldn't expect a police officer, firefighter or a member of the Steelers.”

I thought that cop that pulled me over for speeding was high!

Not really the key depends..you see not all cops are males..and if you address a female cop as (sir) she might think your calling her ugly. 30 days in the slammer then!

So what's the difference between a spliff and a blunt? :excited:
Blunt is rolled in a big cigar paper, burns slower and includes a nicotine buzz. So I've heard. And, most echoing what's already been said: • The weed laws in this country are stupid• Holmes is extra-stupid for breaking them while he's a part of the NFL :)

So we know Holmes is out week 8...and I anticipate further league penalties.

Question is, if there are indeed additional league sanctions, when and how many games?

I have no clue, but if someone does, please chime in.

What a busy week ...My league hands out a $10 Fine for incidents like this ..arrests , suspensions, etc ... C. Johnson , Matt Jones, Larry Johnson, Kellen Winslow and now Holmes have all been fined so far this week.Keep it up fellas .. your making our transaction pot grow..!!!
Interesting rules what happens if the player is say on the defensive team and gets in trouble does that count? I never heard of this but it is something different. Who wins the pot at the end the league champion?

I am wondering the same thing. Anyone think the Steelers suspend him additional games? How fast will the NFL get involved?

The NFL, as well as the United States in general, needs to realize that they can't stop anyone from smoking weed. It's time to stop with this nonsense.

Agreed but until it is legalized you are a dope if you smoke it and even a bigger dummy if you do it while driving. He's looking at least another game suspension if not 4 weeks.

Anyone heard when this case is likely to be resolved?

It seems to me like he's probably playing this week, but would the NFL take action before the case is resolved since he pretty much confessed already?

Why smoke dope while driving? Stay at home and smoke to eliminate the risk.

The United States can`t stop anyone from doing anything. The NFL can`t stop anyone from doing anything. The NFL can put in place rules to hopefully prevent this from happening and the players know the risk they are taking. With the price these players know they have to pay for getting in trouble in the NFL it puzzles me why they continure to put themselves at risk. I smoked weed once in awhile in college but gave it up when I got my first "real" job for fear of possible drug testing. Plus it was a good paying gig for a 22 year old kid and I did not want to blow it.

He wasn't arrested but instead was told a citation will be mailed to his home. At that time he'll have a court date where he can enter a plea. I am guessing the NFL will take action after that...

Agree. I've never smoked dope, but I think we'd all be better off if it was legalized. That said, Holmes is in a bit of trouble. With a large WR bye week this week for me and others (S. Smith, V. Jax, Colston) I need a another WR and Washington has been good lately. If Holmes sits I think Washington would be a decent play against Wash.
