Sapp and Strahan (1 Viewer)

Leaving the Clifton hit out of it for a minute, I am still shocked at how most people gave Sapp a pass for the dirty play that tore up Jerry Rice's knee in 1997.

Is this it? Do you mean dirty as in it was a horsecollar tackle after they were outlawed? It's clear Sapp was sympathetic to Rice, so we can assume he didn't mean to injure him. Still unacceptable, since horsecollar tackles were pretty front burner then and widely known as dangerous plays.
Horse Collar tackles weren't outlawed until the 2005 season.

Whoops. I thought it was 1995.

Yeah, he looked real sympathetic when he was high-fiving a teammate as Rice laid there on the ground hurt.
It was actually a low five, if that makes any difference.
Oops, my bad.

Cmon dude. Is that all you saw?
No, I also Sapp take down Rice with a dirty tackle.
Would you think it's honest if I said all I saw is Sapp displaying sad or concerned body language? I think your bias filter is too thick.

I think that was concern that his stupid penalty had just given the offense 15 yards and a 1st down.

And what bias? I barely knew of Warren Sapp before that play, and when I saw it, I instantly disliked him because of a) the dirty tackle (legal or not at the time, it was dirty), and b) the low-five. Sorry, but I don't like seeing legends taken out by cheap shots.
