Dom Davis...stuffed

Dom Davis again...Stuffed

Dom Davis again...stuffed

And 1 more time on 4th and goal....STUFFED!

Oh he's great.
Better drop him in the rankings now. It is preseason, relax.

for some reason, the Texans had Robaire Smith playing FB on those plays. The announcers called it an "experiment"

DomDav's 4 missed chances from the 1 is very concerning. I am nervous about DD, and I am a Texan homer.

Should this give everyone pause before they take DD?
ya. He stinks now. How long did he play?

Panthers 1st and goal at the 1 yard-line after a 15-yd end around by Drew Carter. Weinke looks pretty good on this drive.

Weinke 1-yd TD pass to Michael Gaines (TE) CAR scored on the first play from the 1.

Putzier also in now with the 2nd team.Texans D is over pursuing. Denver could bootleg them all night if they wanted to.

I don't know how long he played--I am watching around the huddle. I am not saying that 4 plays makes DD a bad back. I guess I just have some gut concerns about him. Hollings really looked good, but I understand that this is the preseason and we shouldnt read too much into these games. But I am still wondering about DD.

I think it's worth knowing, anyway. And it's not like you can like Davis *more* after seeing the exchange. Does it mean anything? We don't know. I saw an expert question exchange recently about what preseason results mean and the answers were all over the map, a wide spectrum of ideas. I don't know that there's a clear answer.

you're right, it is worth knowing, but nothing to have a fit about. If he does this 5 more times, then it is cause for concern. Didn't Edge have issues against the Patriots on the goaline last year in week 1? How'd he turn out?

Hard to get a read on Bell at all--he's getting stuffed at the line almost every time. Little lob on 3rd down in the endzone to Rice is incomplete. Watts missed a tough leaping catch in the endzone earlier. Joffer's right on the money, the boot is there every time for Denver....

40 yard QB draw by Van Pelt
Thanks for updating us, but I'm sure we're all looking at nfl.com just like you are. By the way, yes, Van Pelt ran for 40.
I'm not - I appreciate the big play posts.
IMHO, the best use of this sort of thread is describing things on the screen that one can't decipher from the box alone. Meanwhile, asking things like "who is Jacksonville playing?" seems like a waste of space to me. Point, click, look at the schedule, no?

I don't mean to stir up or flame, just want to get the benefit of what others see that I can't - not merely cut and paste box score info here. One man's take, anyway.

I think Edge has always had goal-line issues, in part because the Colts, so good between the 10s, seem to call really vanilla, bland stuff at the goal line. Weird, because it's contrary to how they attack elsewhere. In short, I love Edge as a yardage guy and someone who will never have to face defenses focused on him. But I don't expect him to be a dynamic TD guy, just a pretty good one at best.

browns and giants are about to get started again...15 min warmup period is starting

Sorry for the sarcasm. I just wouldn't even consider this to be anything to worry about whatsover. Don't overrate 1 qtr of barely meaningful football. Even still he the fact that he was givin that many shots is why he is a good rb. Capers runs and runs. If DD is the man and there is nothing to indicate that isn't he is a great fantasy back to have. Had him the last 2 years and he's a great fantasy back.

How did DeShaun Foster do? Has Shelton seen any play time yet?
Foster hasn't had that many looks and the times when he did get the ball it wasn't anything spectacular. The Panthers passing game has been the story so far. Rod Smart is in at RB and he had a nice 25-yd scamper down the right sideline. The first half is nearly over and the Panthers have punted only once.No Shelton yet - probably the 2nd half. No CAR RB has looked that good (with the exception of Smart). It's all been passing.

Washington just blocked a FG att. by Kasay.

Dayne in now. That's the slimmest I've ever seen him.Not much room to run for either Anderson or Bell tonight, and neither did anything to stand out.

Bad example....Edge actually turned out to be one of the worst goalline runners in the league last year....this cause Peyton Manning to get an unfair rep as somone who throws too much inside the 5 to boost his own stats, but in reality it was that Edge was getting stuffed on early downs and then Peyton was getting scores after that.

Does anyone else share my hunch that the Buffalo offense would be better off with Kelly Holcomb for 2005? Not long term perhaps, but Losman looks . . . well, like a second-year QB who's hardly played.

I love the over-reaction this time of the year. I really love the guys that just wait for the first sign to justify all their off season predictions. I hope you are just as quick to eat crow later in the season. The Denver D-line had great penetration on every play. DD had 3 carries for 20 yards before that. I guess I should be doing back flips and predicting 2000 yards this year.

Sooooooooo, where should he get playing time to lose that look? eBay?

Just out of idle curiosity, what are some of your predictions? Where is DD on your RB board? Plaxico just caught a TD. Let me go move him up 27 slots on my cheat sheet.

Touche. I just think the Bills aren't far away from being a decent club, and why wait a year while you get a green QB ready?

How does it matter where I have him ranked? My point was that people over-react every year at this time to good and bad play/plays. FWIW, I think DD is around #10.

Also FWIW, I do agree that the Bills would be better off with Holcomb. I avoided the Bills WR's this year because I think they are a high risk due to Losman.

I hear you. I just always want to hear the predictions of anyone who seems eager to laugh at other people's opinions, that's all. This was my Top 15 in July - I haven't adjusted them in a while.

Tomlinson SD

Alexander Sea

Holmes KC

James Ind

McGahee Buf

McAllister NO

D Davis Hou

R Johnson Cin

Dillon NE

J Jones Dal

K Jones Det

J Lewis Bal

Portis Was

Barber NYG

Both Buffalo WRs I had in the mid-30s, which all but guarantees I won't get them.

I think the Bills are doing what it right long term for their team. For instance, Cincy would've been better off last year letting Kitna play but for the long term of the franchise I think they did what they had to do. I am sure I am in a minority here but I hardly ever have set in stone rankings.

Full disclosure - I didn't like the Palmer move last year (Kitna played so well in 2003). And I was flat wrong on that one. Losman just threw a nice TD pass to Evans, too. I'll be wrong again in 3-4 minutes, you can set your watch by it.

I think that's exactly the point. You should always be re-thinking, re-evaluating. And I never draft EXACTLY as my cheat sheet is set up, for a number of reasons. People who want to set everything in stone beforehand are simply looking for emotional copouts and afraid to make decisions in the moment.

Morency in the game now. Nice first run to cut back to the left, showed pretty good quickness. Fumbled on the second run.

Meanwhile, asking things like "who is Jacksonville playing?" seems like a waste of space to me. Point, click, look at the schedule, no?
David Garrard looked great. Too bad he is a backup. The kid could easily be a starter for someone.

The TD pass was lucky, though. A semi-drop from Williams - the pass was a little high, but a good WR gets it - that happened to find its way to Wilford. When's the last time the Jags really had a smooth, cohesive offense? Seems like it's been a long time. Another year of winning ugly, I think.

Is David Boston done for the night. NFL.com had him down for one 9 yard catch. I'm keeping an eye on him....

Lamont Jordan looks to be an integral part of the Raider offense. Have to keep an eye on this situation, but they are definately working him on the first possession.
