How is T-Mobile by you? There is a $30 plan that has 100 minutes, unlimited texts, and 5 GB of LTE data. Seems like a good fit
Any more info on this? I actually don't need unlimited texts, as I have google voice, but have a few legacy texters causing me around 10-20 texts per month, so it wouldn't hurt. Use about 2 GB per month and have only gone over 100 minutes once since November. I also like the TMobile option to call on Wi-Fi, as my house is a total dead zone. Do those count against your minutes?

TMobile is supposedly 2nd best in the Philadelphia area for data speed/coverage.

My ATT contract expires this month.
Jaysus uses this plan. Not sure if the T-Mo wifi calling is included w/ this one or not. I don't think it used to be, but it may be now. WiFi calling should NOT count against minutes. If you go over your 100 mins on this one, you just pay like $0.10 per minute I think.

ETA: Lol, should've kept reading before responding.
Ok, trying to work through this. Any idea what phones you can get with the $30 plan (Jaysus?) or where I can see more info about that plan online?

Right now I have an IPhone 4 with AT&T. The screen is cracked a bit, though it really hasn't been a huge deal. Basically, i'm considering these 3 things:

1) $30 T-Mobile Plan

2) $45 Consumer Cellular Plan (200 minutes, 2 GB, 15,000 texts) where I believe I can just put the new sim card in the IPhone?

3) $60 Verizon Plan (Unlimited text and talk, 2 GB, and comes with a free IPhone 5, but 2-year contract)

Verizon is number 1 in network coverage here and the new phone would be nice, especially getting more storage.

I like the flexibility of no contract, though. Kind of leaning toward Consumer Cellular, assuming I'd have to buy a new phone with T-Mobile (I don't need a high-end smartphone, but something decent.)

The $30 T-Mobile plan is here. It is hidden at the bottom under "More Plan Options." You can bring any device to this plan (assuming it has the right GSM/LTE radios), you just activate the account online, pop in the SIM card, and go.

With T-Mo you can keep your existing phone. T-Mobile and AT&T phones are cross compatible, Sprint and Verizon are not.

Hulk, you're a hero with this T-Mo $30/month plan. Ridiculous. I have been paying $100/mo to Verizon. This will be perfect for me.

:hifive:

Wife and I both want to upgrade to new smart phones. I looked back on the history of my usage. Haven't used over 2 gigs a month this year. Talk under 100 minutes a month. Send a ####load of texts. My wife has never owned a smart phone but I'm sure she will fall into the same range as me. Not sure if there is such a thing as international texting but my buddy is moving to Australia soon and I will be texting him some.

Does anyone else do international texting? I can send but can't receive and Consumer Cellular says my international plan is turned on. I tried looking up settings for iphone 4s, but everything that was suggested still hasn't worked. Frustrating. Anyone?
international texter here but still on verizon

Oats, how many minutes so you use a month? Texts? How much data do you consume? Answer my questions 3 and I'll find what you seek
Voice -- under 200 mins (often under 100)

Data -- under about 2GB usually, one month had almost 4GB but it looks like an outlier

Text -- under 500
T-Mobile $30 plan. 100 minutes, unlimited texts, 5GB of LTE data. Minutes past 100 cost an extra ten cents. Seems perfect for you.
####. Sounds awesome. Is that prepaid? Verizon is killing me!

Woah. Awesome. IN.
I have had this plan for about a year now. Only problem is lack of t-mobile coverage in some areas. And by lack, I mean non-existent.
Right. I would rather pay the 15 bucks extra a month for Consumer Cellular. At least they use AT&T towers.
.

if you are saving 50 dollars a month on your phone charges, even a 500 dollar phone is a bargain compared to a 2 year contract.

Maybe I'm missing something but does T-mobile charge twice as much for smart phones as anyone else under contract?
I think t-mobile did away with contracts completely
oh didn't realize that. Paying $500 for a phone sort defeats the purpose of saving money on a cheaper plan.
Well, not really and there isn't much reason to pay $500 for a phone.
Looked like all of their phones were expensive. Guess I could check eBay. Refurbished maybe an option?

True but my wife and I would both need new phones so 500 or so a piece for new phones is crazy, but there seem to be other options.

moto x is 350. moto g is half that price.

no need to spend 500 bucks
Owner of a Moto X and like it, but would love a OnePlus phone. $299 for 16 GB and $349 for 64 GB and it's stellar. There's a thread here somewhere about it.
Just got my OnePlus thus week and put it on the 30 dollar T mobile plan. The savings from Verizon will pay for the new phone in 6 months, actually less once I sell the old galaxy on eBay.

Saw that. Kind of envious, even though my Moto X on Republic is also serving me well. Only reason I don't flip now is because Republic gives me unlimited everything and I kinda like that security. Small quibble, though.

Definitely looking into this. I only see the $50 t-mobile plan on their site.Eta:nm. Found it.

Wait, did you get Oneplus through Walmart? Says the $30 is only available with phones bought at T-mobile.

Oneplus is $50 less than Moto X? Sounds like an easy decision. Where are you guys finding the X for 350? Wondering if I wait until the X+1 to come out the X will drop lower.

Moto X for $299 at Republic.

You need an invite to order the OnePlus through their website. Again, check the OnePlus thread here.

Apparently my wife talks more than 100 minutes a month. Oof. Looks like our best bet is the $100 family plan. Still way cheaper than Verizon and Att and with no contract.

Or activated on T-Mobile.com. Which I did.

Question on the T-Mobile $30 plan.... does the streaming music for free is still apply? If that's the case, I'm switching over asap.

Not certain, but I don't think it does. You still get 5gb though
Review of this plan

Still not sure on the unlimited music streaming question. I have a feeling there is unlimited streaming music on all TMo's plans these days, but can't confirm.
Did some snooping at it does have music freedom! Holy crap, that's freaking awesome.

Yeah, really good deal. So far in my area the coverage is good and the LTE feels crazy fast.

Is this video legitimate for unlocking my iPhone? t-Mobile says it would need to be unlocked to switch to them from AT&T.

If your iPhone is out of contract (after 2 years).... you can just call AT&T and ask for the unlock code.

buy them unlocked elsewhere. Moto about to release updated version of the G, recommend you go this route.
Any idea when that's going to happen? How do BLU phones compare to the G in terms of good unlocked phones for cheap people?
I think it's the first week of September for their event. So very soon.It should be better than similarly priced blu phones IMO, but take a look at those too, different things matter to different people
