A month ago the Broncos' tight end depth chart had Tony Scheffler behind both Daniel Graham and Nate Jackson, but his stint in the quasi-doghouse now appears to be over. A new version of the depth chart was released Tuesday and Scheffler is back at the top where he belongs, which while perhaps little more than a formality should provide some relief for his fantasy owners.

Graham is essentially a sixth offensive lineman and despite being an ex-wideout even Jackson is a better blocker than Scheffler, which no doubt played a major part in his temporary demotion. However, few tight ends possess more potential in the passing game than Scheffler, who as a sophomore last season emerged as an elite fantasy tight end down the stretch.

He ranked second on the team in catches (49) and touchdowns (5) while placing third in yards (549), and did so despite not catching his first pass of the year until Week 5. If his numbers over the final dozen games last season are prorated to a full, 16-game workload he'd have 730 yards and seven touchdowns on 65 grabs. If healthy, Scheffler is a clear TE1 capable of matching those prorated stats.

I saw some people that dropped Scheffler when the news came out about him being behind Nate Jackson. To me, that's insane (especially in dynasty leagues). I think the cat is out of the bag as far as the reason he's behind Jackson (Scheff's blocking), but when Tony gets out of Shanny's doghouse, & he will, you're looking at one of the best young TEs in FF. The Cutler/Scheffler hookup is going to be a monster for years to come, IMO.

Haven't seen much of the game, but are Jackson and Scheffler alternating series? Or is Jackson in to block and Scheffler in on passing downs? Need a TD or 65 yards from him and wondering if I should just pack it in.

Scheffler is in there a lot less often then his owners would like. Graham is always in, Jackson is in there quite a bit (and getting targets), and Scheffler is in there on certain formations that they're not using often.

Scheffler had the one 70 yard catch, one TD drop, and he has pretty much not even been in the game since. God, do I hate Shanahan.

Jackson is definitely operating as their TE2 (not necessarily their receiving TE). Looks like Denver is going to run 2-TE sets nearly half the time. When you take into account the passing downs Scheffler typically participates in, you can imagine the amount of PT Scheffler will get when he becomes their TE2 (& it will happen). Holding him in dynasty leagues goes without saying, but I'd even be extremely patient with Scheffler in redraft leagues. He's just got a terrific amount of upside.

Scheffler will produce this season, IMO. It's only a matter of time. Again, be patient. :goodposting:

Shanny is so "what have you done for me lately"?Jackson dropped a pass along the sidelines early in the game. Enter Scheffler, 72 yard reception. Scheffler drops a TD (not an easy grab, but he should have had it) and never sees the field again. I may have to drop Scheffler for Fasano, at least he's guaranteed consistent looks.

I saw enough tonight, both good and bad, that I will be rolling with Fasano until I see Scheffler consistently ON THE FIELD more than he was. Despite it being for 72 yards, one reception a game simply won't sustain itself. I do believe that he will improve as the season wears on, but right now I feel like Fasano will be more productive and trustworthy.

Thought this entire thread, and this post in particular, deserved a bump.Scheffler is currently the #1 TE in my local league.
